Gonzalo Higuaín
Madrid rule Higuain and Khedira out Real Madrid duo Gonzalo Higuain and Sami Khedira have been ruled out of Tuesday`s Champions League trip to Ajax. Argentina striker Higuain, who played 76 minutes of last night`s 5-1 win over Athletic Bilbao and scored the opening goal, is struggling with a back problem while German midfielder Khedira, who was replaced in the 67th minute, has a hamstring strain. Madrid have already secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League but could guarantee themselves top spot in Group G if results go their way this week. Jose Mourinho`s side are currently five points clear of second-placed AC Milan while Ajax are a further point back.

Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo not bothered by Barca Cristiano Ronaldo paid little heed to Barcelona's eight-goal mauling of Almeria ahead of the duo's El Clasico clash next week. Barca equalled a 51-year-old club record for their biggest away victory in La Liga by demolishing Almeria 8-0 at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos on Saturday. That result saw Pep Guardiola's side briefly take over top spot in La Liga, but Real Madrid reclaimed pole position after thumping Athletic Bilbao 5-1 at the Bernabeu in the evening's late match. Real ace Ronaldo appeared far from concerned about Barca's result, saying: "The 8-0 at Almeria doesn't tell me anything, lets see if they score eight goals against us on Monday." Aside from pitting the top two teams in La Liga against each other, El Clasico should also see the two leading goalscorers in the division go head to head. Barca ace Lionel Messi took his tally to 13 for the season with a hat-trick against Almeria, but Ronaldo then did likewise against Athletic to stay one goal clear on 14. Despite that impressive tally, Ronaldo insists his main aim for the season is team success rather than individual glory. He said: "We are very happy for the win and I'm also very happy for scoring three goals, but the important thing is that we continue being leaders. "I'm fighting to win the league, not for the Pichichi (leading goalscorer in La Liga)." Ronaldo might have been celebrating another goal against Athletic if he had taken the 57th-minute spot-kick awarded to his side. The Portugal international is Madrid's regular penalty-taker and scored from the spot in injury-time to complete his hat-trick, but for the first kick it was, rather surprisingly, defender Sergio Ramos who stepped up. Ramos duly slotted his penalty into the top corner to put Madrid 3-1 up, and Ronaldo said afterwards: "Sergio told me to leave it to him and I'm not going to argue with him over a penalty. He's my team-mate and a great friend. The goal will help Sergio gain more confidence." Ramos said of the incident in AS: "On the pitch everyone was surprised. There's usually an order, but I was confident and had a thorn in my side because I hadn't scored and normally I have a decent goal average. "I hope this is the start of a good run."

Karanka: Bilbao were no easy meat Real Madrid assistant honcho Aitor Karanka paid tribute to Athletic Bilbao despite his charges romping to a 5-1 victory. Cristiano Ronaldo netted a hat-trick coupled with goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Ramos, while Bilbao's lanky forward Fernando Llorente scored for the visitors. However, despite the thumping dished out to the away outfit, the scoreline flattered Real as Bilbao looked menacing every time they ventured forward and were unlucky not to plunder more goals. It was a fact that Karanka, filling in for suspended boss Jose Mourinho, was quick to acknowledge. Speaking to realmadrid.com after the encounter, Karanka commented: "We didn't play great in the first half. Athletic are the best team to have passed through here this year. "They deserve a lot of credit. Llorente, Muniain and Susaeta gave us a lot of trouble. But that is why we have Casillas. "He continues to prove that he is a great goalkeeper. We had some trouble when we were up 2-1. Athletic could have taken the lead, which would have really complicated things for us. "(Bilbao coach) Caparros had said that one of our keys is that we have been able to win matches 4-0 without playing well. Our speed in attack is a great attribute. Today we won 5-1 and whatever comes down the road will come. Our fans are behind us 100%. They proved it against Murcia and again here." Karanka also gave an insight into the surprising decision to allow full-back Sergio Ramos to convert his penalty strike, instead of usual designated spot kick taker Ronaldo. He added: "The fact that Sergio Ramos took the penalty is simply an anecdote. Cristiano normally takes them, but Sergio Ramos was feeling confident and approached to take it. "They discussed it and the Portuguese let him take it. I don't know what they said to one another, but it wasn't a problem. "Mourinho must have been surprised by it. He has everything under control, so to see something like that when he's not on the bench must have surprised him." Real now head into next week's "El-Clasico" clash with Barcelona as the top dog, sitting pretty at the summit with 32 points, one ahead of Barca.

Shopping at D&G last year- Zinedine Zidane
Zidane relishing Real return Real Madrid's newly appointed presidential advisor to the first team Zinedine Zidane is excited about his new position with the club. Speaking to the club's official website, the former FIFA World Player of the Year admitted that he is looking forward to working with the current crop of players under the Jose Mourinho regime. "I will have a close relationship with the squad," explained Zidane. "I will travel to Champions League matches with the team. That is where we will start. We are taking one step at a time. I will be with the team at Valdebebas on a daily basis. "We will slowly define my duties, but what is important is that I will have a close relationship with the team. It will serve me well because the perspective I have of watching training sessions as an outsider is different to that I had as a player. "He (Mourinho) wanted me to have this job. And today is the day. We will later speak about what I can contribute. We discussed what Real Madrid is all about and what this club means. "He has done a good job since taking over as head coach and he doesn't need much help." The Frenchman, whose stunning overhead kick in the 2002 Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen won Real the 2002 European crown, stressed that the nine-time European champions need to reclaim their status as the continent's top dog. He elaborated: "Correct. We have already clinched a berth in the next round, but Real Madrid always plays to win. "It is this team's major attribute and it has proven just that so far in league play. There are no friendlies or insignificant matches. When this team takes the pitch, it does so to score from the opening minute." Real have not reached the final of the Champions League since that glorious night in Hampden Park when they carved out a hard fought 2-1 win against German outfit Leverkusen. Loading comments... Ramos: Real Madrid are the best Real Madrid right-back Sergio Ramos insists that they are currently the best footballing side in the world. Jose Mourinho's charges' barnstorming start to the campaign continued when they thrashed Athletic Bilbao 5-1 on Saturday evening to set themselves up nicely for their "El-Clasico" encounter against Barcelona next week. In fact, Barca fine tuned their own preparations for their blockbuster clash in some style, caning a hapless Almeria outfit 8-0. Nevertheless, defender Ramos is adamant that Real, and not Barca currently reign supreme as the crème de la crème of world football. He said on the club's official website: "I hope football fans enjoy a great match next week and that we bring a win back to Madrid. "We don't need to pay attention to anyone but ourselves. "We have our own identity and we hope to stay on track. This is the best team in the world by far." The rampaging Spanish wingback also spoke about the decision for him to convert Real's third goal from the penalty spot after designated penalty taker Cristiano Ronaldo relinquished his spot kick duty to Ramos. Ramos remarked to AS: "On the pitch everyone was surprised. "There's usually an order, but I was confident and had a thorn in my side because I hadn't scored and normally I have a decent goal average. I hope this is the start of a good run." Real and Barcelona face off in their maiden meeting of the season on November 29.- Kaká
