  1. Dudek: Real can’t fail before El Clasico Jerzy Dudek was warned Real Madrid that they cannot afford to lose any points ahead of El Clasico next month. "The Clasico will take place on April 11th but we can't afford to fail before or after that crucial game," he told RealMadrid.com. Los Merengues face Getafe this weekend and Dudek stressed that it will not be a picnic at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. "Getafe are always a complicated opponent," he said. "They also have many players that came from our academy. "They will be motivated. It is crucial for us to win games like this. Getafe have good ball control and are very patient. We'll have to concentrate hard." The veteran custodian also said that he is enjoying his stay at the Bernabeu, despite playing little and needing more effort to prepare for games. "Goalkeepers are like good wine; the more experienced the better," he joked. "I look for things to motivate me on a daily basis, but I'm like a diesel motor. I need to do more warm-up exercises than the rest, but once I'm ready I work to perfection. I have to train hard every day to be ready for whenever I may be needed."
  2. "Real prize players over trophies" Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has taken a dig at Real Madrid, saying they prefer glamourous signings over trophies. Real have long been famous or notorious - depending on which camp you're in - of splashing ridiculous amounts of cash to bring some of the world's most renowned players to the Santiago Bernabeu. In the first Galacticos era, when Florentino Perez was president - Real signed Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo (the now plump Brazilian) and David Beckham for a total of £139.7 million. The second era - also under Perez - resulted in Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso coming to Spain for a total of €228 million. Wenger, whose managerial method is the antithesis of Madrid's splash-the-cash ways, has never hidden his dislike of the club. Speaking to Mirror Football, he said:"It seems strange when fans celebrate new signings more than trophies." "When they sign a great player, the fans are pleased but this increases the pressure to put on a great performance. This is a team sport." He could not resist pointing out Real's miserable record in Europe over the past few years. "Madrid have been eliminated in the second round of the Champions League for the last six years. "They are fragile."

Alves: Kaka joined the wrong team Daniel Alves has suggested that Real Madrid playmaker Kaka should have joined Barcelona instead. Kaka has been derided in the Spanish press for his below-par displays for Real Madrid since joining the Spanish giants in a big money move from AC Milan last summer. The Brazilian's season was summed up when he was hauled off during the 1-1 draw with Lyon in the Champions League second-leg tie at the Bernabeu. Alves, whose Barcelona team face Stuttgart in their second-leg tie on Wednesday, told La Gazzetta dello Sport that Kaka has chosen the wrong club and was too used to 'playing for the team'. "I think Kaka has the wrong team," said Alves. "I was used to being comfortable with one team, but then I found another; In Milan, he played for the team, but that is not the case in Madrid. "They have bought many important players, and one seems to take away the space from another. Kaka is not playing in the position he likes, things are complicated, and the pressure increases." Alves also drew comparisons with the Brazilian philosophy and that of Barcelona, insisting that Kaka would be better suited to the style of play adopted by Pep Guaradiola and the European champions. He added, "At Brazil we play as a collective, something that also happens in Barcelona, but not at Real Madrid. It would have been better if had come here with us (Barcelona). "Our game is perfect for him. I am not the one who buys the players, but, if so, I would have signed him right away."

Ronaldo: No problem with Higuain Real Madrid playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo has denied any friction with teammate and striker Gonzalo Higuain. There were reports of a spat between the two following Real's ignominious exit from the Champions League last week. After Ronaldo had put the capital side ahead early on, Real missed a string of chances to seal the tie against Lyon. Higuain was on the culprits - his most glaring miss coming when he missed an open net with the keeper stranded. However, the former Manchester United star has denied any enmity between the two. Speaking to AS, he said: "I don't want to start feeding these stories." "I don't have problems with anyone. I get on well with all of my team-mates." Despite exiting the European stage, Real are in with a good chance to secure domestic silverware this season. They currently lead La Liga on goal difference and Higuain was back to prime form on Saturday - scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Real Valladolid. Both Ronaldo and Higuain will have to set apart their differences, if any, for Real to secure a major title this season.

Real Madrid remain the top team in La Liga after a lopsided 1-4 win against Valladolid. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first of the night and was followed by Higuain, who hammered the nail in the coffin with a hat-trick. With so much at stake for both teams, it was Valladolid who dictated the tempo of the opening minutes and pressured the Whites with aggressive offense. Marquitos curled in the first warning shot on 6’ and the Pucelano advance continued for a quarter hour. But Real Madrid held their ground and eventually gained the upper hand in ball possession and the match. Sergio Ramos was thwarted twice in a matter of milliseconds by Justo Villar, but Cristiano Ronaldo found the back of the net with a magically struck free kick five minutes later. The match grew more intense and in response the hosts grew rougher. Pele nearly pulled Valladolid level on 37’, but Casillas deflected the ball which later struck off the crossbar. Real Madrid didn’t fail to capitalize on its next opportunity. Van der Vaart swung a perfect ball in from the the right side of the box and Higuain redirected it into the goal for his 17th of the season. The Whites were dialed in after the restart and in six minutes put the match in the books when Higuain beat Justo Villar in a one-on-one. Valladolid tried their best to claw back and did so thanks to an own goal by Albiol, but their efforts were too little too late. The door was slammed shut when Pipita put the exclamation point on his hat-trick following a shot by Cristiano Ronaldo and ensuing clearance by Justo Villar. The Argentine striker’s 19th league goal of the season put Real Madrid up 1-4. Valladolid had no gas to mount a comeback and Los Blancos left Zorrilla Stadium having successfully defended their place atop the league table.
  7. Cicinho: Raul is a snitch! Former Real Madrid player Cicinho criticised the atmosphere at the Bernabeu and in particular the antics of captain Raul. Cicinho, who moved from Real Madrid to Serie A side AS Roma in 2007 also revealed that he felt like a prisoner at the club. "When I moved from Real Madrid to AS Roma, I felt liberated. I was a prisoner there. The environment at Real was really bad," he told Tv Bate Bola. He was particularaly scathing in his assessment of Real legend Raul, accusing him of undermining the team in front of the national media. "Raul was the light of journalists, he was telling reporters things we said in the locker room. After Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo left the club, they lost their force." Speaking of the way things are conducted at the Bernabeu, Cicinho said: "At Real Madrid there is a tendency to alienate. Look at how they are now criticising Kaka, the best in the world."

Ronaldo could be re-United? Cristiano Ronaldo may play for Manchester United again one day, saying: "Maybe in the future I could return." The 25-year-old departed for Real Madrid in a world record £80million deal last summer after six seasons at Old Trafford, which yielded three Barclays Premier League titles, a Champions League crown and numerous other team and personal honours. The move was long mooted, with Ronaldo's desire to play in Spain and the astronomical transfer fee eventually seeing the forward switch to the Bernabeu. Ronaldo, who joined United for £12.24m from Sporting Lisbon aged 18, has made a strong start to his Real career, scoring 11 times in 13 Primera Division appearances - including two goals in last night's win over Xerez - and six times in four Champions League appearances. But he may pull on a Red Devils shirt again. "Of course I miss playing for Manchester United," Ronaldo said in The News of the World. "I played there for six years and that's a long time. "I am still interested in watching Manchester United and, you never know, maybe in the future I could return to play there. "It's always possible." Ronaldo has a long-term contract at Real which he plans to honour, but he stressed his fondness for Sir Alex Ferguson, his former United team-mates and the Old Trafford club. "I want to fulfil my contract here but, in the future, only God knows," he added. "I will not say I am not happy here at Real Madrid. "I am really happy and everyone knows this is my club but, of course, I miss Manchester United, the boss, the players, because I left family there."

Ramos hints at Madrid exit Sergio Ramos has dropped a huge hint that he may not end his career at Real Madrid. Having joined the Los Merengues back in 2005 from Sevilla, Ramos has matured into a key player for both club and country. His versatility allows him to play at rightback and in the middle of defence which has proven to ba a huge asset for Manuel Pellegrini's side who have Pepe out for the season. Speaking to AS, he said: "I do not know if I will finish my career at Real Madrid or elsewhere. Football takes many turns, "I have grown as a person and as a player at Real Madrid but will always carry Sevilla in my heart." Ramos who is only 23 years of age will be highly sought after if he does decide to leave the Spanish giants.

Guti: Happier to give a pass Real Madrid play-maker Guti has revealed that he is perfectly happy to pass the ball rather than to score. Last weekend, Guti elected to backheel the ball to Karim Benzema even though he was one-on-one with the Deportivo goalkeeper. "It's amazing how people are talking about it," Guti told Realmadrid.com. "I didn't score a single goal at the Riazor. I always knew what to do. I didn't hesitate. I knew Benzema was coming up behind me. I could see him from the corner of my eye. I did what I thought was the most useful option for the team to score." Some of his team-mates have told Guti that he was 'crazy' not to take a shot. "Many of my team-mates said I should have tried to score," admitted the 33-year-old. "[Raul] Albiol said I was crazy. But that's my style. It comes naturally to me. It makes me happier to give a pass like that than to score a goal." Benzema's goal helped Real claim their first victory at Depor's Riazor in 18 years and Guti is hoping the team can push on and make a charge towards the league title. "I think this victory will do us a lot of good because it seemed we were cursed at that stadium. The league is far from over and Barcelona don't seem to drop any points. We can't afford to make any mistakes."

Kaka: Nice if Atletico lends a hand Kaka was ecstatic after scoring for Real Madrid against Espanyol, a goal that made his return from injury all the more enjoyable. The Brazilian maestro had been hampered by a sports hernia that kept him out of action for more than one and half months, and he was relieved to be back playing without pain. "The goal was very special because it had been a few months since I had scored and a lot of time without playing," Kaka told AS. "Against Espanyol, it was a good match and I felt more free. Every day my condition improves and one will see better things out of me." Commenting on whether it is true that the sports hernia may be a chronic injury, Kaka said that it no longer bothered him. "The sports hernia is a thing of the past, I am no longer injured and we should consider this issue as good as gone." Kaka added that he was never pressured by Real Madrid to return from injury quicker than expected. "At Real Madrid, one has to learn to live with pressure as in all great clubs, but I did not feel pressure. The only thing that has bothered me in this entire time has been that I was not improving physically. The doctors recommended patience, but I never felt pressure. I just wanted to play as I wanted." The Brazil international then spoke of the clash between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid next weekend at the Vicente Calderon. "It would be nice if Atletico would lend us a hand," Kaka mused. "The next match is an important one." As for Real Madrid, Kaka believes that Manuel Pellegrini's patience is paying off as Los Blancos are beginning to gel and play their own brand of football. "The coach is really spreading the pitch and this is serving us well," Kaka said. "As for my postition, I have always liked to play behind the forwards." "The only thing we are lacking is to play a complete 90 minutes. It is a question of mentality and it's something that happens with the scoreline. In our last match we were up 2-0 at half-time and we relaxed a bit." "We need to work hard so that it does not continue to happen." The attacking midfielder also stood up for team-mate Karim Benzema, who was replaced by Gonzalo Higuain early in the second period against Espanyol. "Karim is important for Real Madrid because of his quality. He scores important goals, he is helping the team, and he is improving a lot. One has to remember that it is not easy to go to a new country and a new league and Benzema is adapting just as the rest of the team is." Kaka concluded the press conference by commenting on his fellow compatriots Robinho and Ronaldinho, saying that he hopes to find more international glory with the pair. "Robinho chose his future and decided to return to Brazil and Santos. [On Sunday] he scored a great goal! I am happy for him and hope he is at the World Cup." "As for Ronaldinho, he is doing things well at Milan and has improved a lot, but he still lacks something to become what he was. In any case, Milan will have a difficult time this year in Italy because Inter are very strong with lots of good players and a great coach in [Jose] Mourinho."

Ronaldo protests innocence Cristiano Ronaldo insists he did not mean to hurt Patrick Mtiliga after leaving the Malaga defender with a broken nose. The Portugal international was sent off for the second time in less than two months for Real Madrid. The world's most expensive player, who earlier in the match had scored both of Madrid's goals in their 2-0 win, also felt the dismissal was unjust. Ronaldo was shown a straight red card in the 70th minute of the Primera Division encounter at the Bernabeu after his swinging elbow caught Mtiliga in the face as he tried to escape the attentions of the Denmark international. Mtiliga left the pitch trying to stem the bleeding from his facial injury and was immediately replaced. Ronaldo, who was also sent off against Almeria in December after picking up two late bookings, said after the game: "It was not my intention to injure Mtiliga. I'm very sad for what happened but calm. "Those who understand football know that my intention is always to play the ball. I learned in England not to deceive the referees. This is not a red card here or in anywhere in the world and I'm not asking for protection. I've seen worse things in other games. "I didn't mean to injure the lad. It was bad luck to hit him on the nose because he's only 1.70m and if he had been taller I would have struck his chest." The former Manchester United winger, as a minimum, will now sit at next week's testing trip to fifth-placed Deportivo La Coruna, where Madrid have not won in the league since the 1992/1993 season. "I always want to play and these things make me angry. I've spoken with Mtiliga and he told me that I didn't need to apologise because he doesn't believe I hurt him intentionally," Ronaldo added. "I wouldn't want to injure anybody. I'm not that type of person. I'm not a bad person. I only want to shine by playing football. Now I'm going to be angry when I get home because I won't be able to play through suspension."

Pellegrini not happy despite win Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini was less than pleased with his side's performance against Malaga. This was even though the 2-0 win kept them within touching distance of leaders Barcelona. Malaga had only moved out of the relegation last week and had not won away all season but they created the better opportunities in the opening 30 minutes at the Bernabeu. A mixture of poor finishing, good goalkeeping from Iker Casillas and the woodwork kept the Andalusian side out though, and Madrid got their noses in front in the 35th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo finished off a well-worked move. Ronaldo then made it 2-0 four minutes later with a blistering finish and Madrid, with their tails up, looked capable of adding more goals either side of half-time. They were unable to keep that momentum going, though, and Malaga had already started to look threatening again before Madrid were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute when Ronaldo was sent off. Somewhat surprisingly it was actually Madrid who produced the better chances in the final 20 minutes despite their numerical disadvantage, and Xabi Alonso, Raul Albiol and Esteban Granero could all have added further goals. It was a good end to the match for Madrid, but that and their brief spell of dominance in the first half did not distract Pellegrini from seeing the bigger picture. "I'm not happy with how we played. We were too individualistic at times against a good team that had not lost in nine games. We scored two good goals but it's not been a game that I liked," said Pellegrini, whose side reduced the gap to leaders Barcelona back to five points with what was their 10th successive home win this term. "We've had a perfect home run in the first half of the season. We know we can improve and in order to do that we must take it game by game." Regarding the dismissal of Ronaldo, who was shown a straight red card after his swinging elbow caught Malaga defender Patrick Mtiliga in the face, leaving the Denmark international with a broken nose, Pellegrini admits he did not get a good view of the incident. "I couldn't see it. He (Ronaldo) had a great game, scoring two goals, but unfortunately he was mixed up in that incident that got him sent off," said the Chilean, who does not know what sanction will be handed out to the Portugal international. "First we'll have to see what the referee writes in his report. The competition committee will have to decide if it was an aggression or not."
