Forlan happy to stay at Atletico Despite interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid forward Diego Forlan has reiterated his desire to stay at the club. The Uruguayan's future looked uncertain last week after Galatasaray revealed they had lodged a bid for three Atletico players - Forlan, Jose Antonio Reyes and Tomas Ujfalusi. While Ujfalusi is reportedly keen on plying his trade in the Turkish Super Lig, Forlan is adamant he wants to stay at the Vicente Calderon for the remainder of his contract. "I have said it, and I repeat that I have two more years on my contract with Atletico and I plan to see it out, because I am very happy at the club and in Madrid," Forlan said. Atletico will be under a new coach next season, with Gregorio Manzano being newly installed in the off-season. Forlan believes Manzano's appointment could help the club achieve its goals for next season. "I have [received] good references of him. "I hope the club got it right i the decision and that the good results will return next year." Forlan was also linked with a big money move to Dubai with Al Wasl in May, but those rumours have since died down.

Casillas: Spain didn't learn from Barcelona Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists Spain's playing style was not inspired by the current great Barcelona side. Many people have attributed the national team's success to the system used at Barca by coach Pep Guardiola, which has seen the Catalan club win a plethora of trophies in the last three seasons including three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns. Seven Barcelona players started for Spain in the World Cup final win over Holland and all of the goals in South Africa were scored by members of Guardiola's squad - even though striker David Villa had yet to feature for the Catalans, having signed just before the tournament for Valencia. Casillas, though, says Spain's style dates back to before the 2008 European Championship win, and claims Madrid were the dominant force back then. "Anyone who has followed the national team a little will remember where our style of play comes from," he told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio in an interview. "It doesn't come from 2010 or 2009, but from 2007 and 2008, and at that time Barcelona weren't the club dominating or creating hegemony in Spanish football; it was Real Madrid." And Casillas remembers that only three Barcelona players featured in the Euro 2008 final against Germany. "If we start to remember a little bit further back in time, only [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi and [Carles] Puyol were Barcelona players in the final of the European Championships against Germany," he said. "That Spain is associated with Barcelona's play is a good thing because the team has achieved great success, but the national team is not just about Barcelona's success; it's about the success of the rest, too."

Inter Milan launch shock Kaka bid In a move which is sure to upset the Rossoneri, rival Inter Milan have tabled an offer of 30million euros for Kaka. According to French news daily L'Equipe, Inter have put together an audacious attempt to land the former AC Milan hero from current club Real Madrid. The Brazilian midfielder left the Rossoneri in 2009 to join Madrid but his career at the Bernabeu has been dogged by injuries. Madrid manager Jose Mourinho still sees a role for Kaka in his team next season but the L'Equipe report claims he will accept an improved offer from Inter of 40million euros for the player. Kaka has previously been linked with moves to Chelsea and AC Milan but he always maintained he would stay in the Spanish capital and prove his detractors wrong. AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani even closed the door on Kaka returning to the club a week ago citing the Brazilian's high wages as a stumbling block. "I'm 100% certain that he [Kaka] will not return," Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport. "He will not join us even on loan because the problem is his high wages." The 29-year-old is under contract with the La Liga side until June 2015.
