Rooney waits for starting call Wayne Rooney is facing an anxious wait to see if he is recalled into Manchester United action at the weekend. United play West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. The striker could be on collision course with manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who said he was left out of his side's past two games against Valencia and Sunderland because of an ankle injury. But when asked after England's 0-0 draw with Montenegro at Wembley in midweek if his ankle had caused any problems, Rooney replied: "No, I have had no ankle problems all season." England physio Gary Lewin confirmed there was no issues regarding Rooney's fitness during his time with the national team. Lewin told talkSport: "We are in communication with the clubs every day so we knew what was going on with Wayne. "I can only speak about the seven days he was with England and he trained every day and was fit for the game. "He had not played for Manchester United for two weeks before and what happened at United is between them and him. But when he arrived with us he was fit and available to play. "Manchester United knew with the two weeks he had off and the treatment they were giving him that by the time he came to us he would be ready to train. And they were quite open with us about that." Owen Hargreaves could be on the bench after a first team absence stretching back over two years. He was struck down by an acute form of tendinitis in his knees, which he first experienced during his time at Bayern Munich. Two operations and an extensive period of rehabilitation seemed to have put the 29-year-old back on track by the end of last season. Yet Hargreaves's hopes of being fit for the start of this campaign were wrecked when he experienced more discomfort after his return to training. He was dispatched back to Colorado by Ferguson for more work with Dr Richard Steadman. Veteran winger Ryan Giggs is hoping to return against newly-promoted West Brom after a minor hamstring injury as United attempt to maintain their 100% record on home soil. Loading comments... Ramos heaps praise on David Villa Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos hailed David Villa after Spain's 3-2 win over Scotland in their Euro 2012 qualifier. The Barcelona forward notched his 44th international goal to move level with Raul's Spain record. Villa's penalty gave the European and world champions a half-time advantage from the penalty spot in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Scotland at Hampden and Andres Iniesta doubled their lead just after the break. Steven Naismith pulled one back for the hosts and then a Gerard Pique own goal looked to have set the Scots on course for a precious point before Fernando Llorente came off the bench to have the final say. Ramos was thrilled for 28-year-old Villa, who he believes will go down as one of Spain's all-time greats. "We can only congratulate him, because he has managed a significant figure," said the 24-year-old. "Villa will be one of the top scorers in the history of our selection and my only wish is for him to remain on the roll for a long time." He admitted, however, that Spain had lessons to learn despite the 3-2 victory which maintained their 100% Group I record. "The team are able to appreciate this moment," Ramos said. "There are cycles in matches and I do not know why, but the team gets lost at some points. "Scotland had been pressing very high and managed to trouble us, and press our defensive lines, and were able to take advantage of that. "We must learn from these moments, because you cannot always get the right results and that could complicate things." Villa, who moved onto 43 international goals in last month's 4-0 win in Liechtenstein, is already looking ahead to passing Raul's milestone. He said: "I'm happy because my goal helped us win. We knew for a long time that this goal would arrive. "Now the 45 mark does not worry me because I will score many more." Last night the match-winning responsibility fell to substitute Llorente, though, and the Athletic Bilbao frontman is hoping to continue in the same goalscoring vein. He said: "I am delighted to help the team. The important thing is that we keep strong in qualifying, and see if we continue like this. "I'm on a roll, really, but we must continue working to get more goals."- Hair

Llorente dismisses Barca, Real links Fernando Llorente is flattered by speculation linking him with Real Madrid and Barcelona but insists he is focused on Athletic Bilbao. Llorente has found himself in the spotlight following a fine start to the season, which has seen him score three times in Athletic's six Primera Division matches and then net three crucial goals for Spain over the last week. Against Lithuania on Friday he struck twice in quick succession just after half-time to put the world champions on course for a 3-1 home win, and then against Scotland on Tuesday he climbed off the bench to volley home a late winner in a hard-fought 3-2 victory. Llorente's success in recent times - he netted 23 goals in all competitions last season - has not gone unnoticed with Primera Division superpowers Madrid, whose sporting director Miguel Pardeza this week revealing his admiration for the powerful 25-year-old, and Barcelona both reportedly following the Pamplona-born hitman. However, Llorente is not letting the speculation get to him, telling Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "It's all a little excessive. I've scored goals but neither is it such a big deal. This interest is flattering and it's a sign that I'm doing my job well." When asked about the links to Madrid and Barca, he added: "I'm only thinking about Athletic, I don't have my mind on anything more." Following his exploits over the last week, Llorente now has seven goals in 12 appearances for Spain. That is a hugely impressive strike-rate, but Llorente admitted: "They are good numbers, but the difficult thing is to continue maintaining that level when you play more games. That's were (David) Villa is, look at the figures he has, they are spectacular." Villa netted his 44th goal against Scotland - moving him level with Raul as Spain's leading scorer - in what was his 69th appearance for the reigning world and European champions.- Karim Benzema
"Benzema looks very confused" Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez has questioned the contribution of Karim Benzema at the club, claiming he looks very confused. The Mexican goal-getter was speaking in an interview with Spanish publication Marca discussing the progression of the Los Blancos this season and he has pin-pointed Benzema as one of the cause for concerns. He remarked, "Benzema does not know what his role is at Real Madrid. I notice that he is very confused, because he still does not know what is expected at this club. [Gonzalo] Higuain is the better option to play in white." Despite Benzema's lack of form, Sanchez, who is the second highest goalscorer in the history of the Primera Division after spending twelve years in the league with both Madrid clubs, Real and Atletico, has faith that Jose Mourinho, together with Cristiano Ronaldo, can help deliver some silverware back into Madrid's trophy cabinet this season. He added, "With Mourinho in charge, Real Madrid can win the league. What I like about the Portuguese coach is his honesty. "In terms of Cristiano Ronaldo, people expect a lot from him and he is accountable for his performances every week." Madrid are now third-place in the La Liga and top of their group in the Champions League.- Karim Benzema
"Benzema not leaving Real Madrid" Real Madrid sporting director Miguel Pardeza insists the club have no plans to sell out-of-sorts striker Karim Benzema. However, he did reveal his admiration for reported target Spain forward Fernando Llorente. Benzema has struggled to establish himself at Madrid since his big-money move from Lyon in 2009, scoring just eight goals in his first league campaign and netting only once so far this term - despite being given several chances to impress by new coach Jose Mourinho. The France international, who was omitted from his country's World Cup squad this summer, has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu but Pardeza insists the club are not looking to get rid of the 22-year-old. "The coach (Mourinho) has told us that, in general terms, he is happy with his (Benzema's) work, but he also told us that he things he can give much more," said Pardeza in Spanish daily AS. "There are team-mates who do not cede even a single millimetre in their position. But we have time, you need to have patience and we continue supporting the player. It's not in our heads to sell Benzema. "I'm not despairing. I expect him to triumph at Madrid." Madrid have been linked with striking reinforcements, however, after a disappointing goalscoring return at the start of the season, with just nine goals scored in seven competitive matches prior to their 6-1 mauling of Deportivo La Coruna last time out. One of the forwards whose name has cropped up various times is powerful Athletic Bilbao forward Llorente, who netted a brace for Spain in Friday's 3-1 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Lithuania. Pardeza refused to speculate on the possibility of a new forward coming in during the January transfer window, but described Llorente as a "magnificent striker" who offers something different in attack. "It's too early to tell (about signing a new striker). We're comfortable with the squad. I don't see any great necessities. But I don't know if there will be a problem with injuries between here and January," said Pardeza, whose side also have Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo up front. "In any case, it's a possibility that is always going to be open, but I can't make a judgment until much later on." When asked about Llorente, Pardeza said: "Llorente is a magnificent striker, who possesses some characteristics which are not in abundance. As well as that, he has progressed enormously in recent years, as can be seen in recent games with Spain and Athletic. "It's an interesting player, that's clear. But right now we are only concerned about those that we have here. It's too soon to talk about the future."- Eva Gonzalez

Mourinho: Fergie my best friend Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho considers Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson his closest pal in football. Mourinho has been tipped to take over the reins at Manchester United once Ferguson retires. The Portuguese has repeatedly expressed his love for the English game and the desire to be coach again in the country. Now he has revealed how close his relationship with Fergie is. In comments quoted by Marca, he said: "Among all the coaches in football, I can say he [Ferguson] is my best friend." Mourinho also went on to criticise those in Spain who question his ability to lead Real Madrid. "I think that Real Madrid cannot have a coach with no track record," he said. "Now there is a trainer with two Champions Leagues, 6 league championships, tournaments in different countries, including Cups, with 17 titles in total but comes here and they create so much doubt as though I arrive here with nothing. "No matter how good a coach is, however phenomenal a coach is, if you come here with nothing you would be killed." Real showed signs of sparking into life in their last La Liga encounter, thrashing Deportivo 6-1. Fans will be hoping they can carry on from that win when La Liga action resumes this weekend.- Jose Mourinho
Mourinho rules out January signings Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has dismissed the likelihood of any new additions arriving in the January transfer window. Madrid spent in the region of 250million euros on bolstering their squad in the summer of 2009 following the return of Florentino Perez as president, while this summer the Spanish giants splashed out again on six new players. Despite that, Madrid are still being linked in the media with various players such as Fernando Llorente, Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale. However, Mourinho has ruled out the possibility of new faces coming in before the end of the season - save for extreme circumstances. "It's normal there's talk of players. Madrid is Madrid and there's always talk of players," Mourinho said on his club's website, www.realmadrid.com. "Mainly it's great players because if you talk of mediocre players people won't believe it. "It seems normal to me, but as coach I have to say not only what I think but what the club thinks and that is that this is the squad until the end of the season. These are the players which we have faith in," "Real Madrid have made the investment that they had to do in previous years and this summer. We don't have the perfect squad, because the perfect squad doesn't exist. We have an excellent squad with players who give me a lot of confidence and I don't want any players in the winter market. "It seems premature to me and unrealistic when there is talk of signings in January when the coach, and surely the director general (Jorge Valdano) and the president (Perez), will say that the market now and in January for Real Madrid is closed if nothing unusual happens." Madrid are unbeaten and have won six of their eight competitive matches since Mourinho took charge this summer, leaving them third in the Primera Division standings and two points clear at the top of their Champions League group.- Jose Mourinho
Mourinho keen on signing Fabiano Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano to the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian hitman has been hardly a hit for his club this season, starting just once and scoring none in the La Liga so far. According to Tuttomercatoweb, his current plight at Sevilla has attracted the interest of Mourinho, who is on the hunt for a new striker following Karim Benzema's less than impressive form for the Los Blancos this season The Special One is willing to offer a life-line to Fabiano, who is not new to speculation linking him away from Sevilla and has recently hinted on seeking a fresh challenge should his lack of first-team action persists. The 29-year-old, who was hotly linked with English side Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, will reportedly cost Madrid €20 million.- Kaká
Kaka backs Ramires to shine at Chelsea Real Madrid midfielder Kaka thinks new Chelsea signing Ramires is the best in the business. Although Ramires has yet to put pen to paper, his £18.3 million move from Benfica to Stamford Bridge is all but confirmed. Kaka, who is currently out for four months with a meniscus injury in his left knee, told the Daily Star:"I am pleased that Ramires has joined a top European club. "But I actually think it's pretty scary for the Premier League and for teams who are looking to win the European Cup this season. "For me there is no doubt that Chelsea have signed the very best young central midfield player in the world. "Now he is at Chelsea I think he will become the best midfield player in the world within two years and will be placed in the same bracket as Claude Makelele, Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira. "Not only is Ramires a great player but he is a humble boy and is always willing to listen and learn from those that have been in the game a long time." The former World Player of the Year backed his countryman to form a lethal partnership with Frank Lampard in the centre of the park. "Frank Lampard still probably has another two years left at the top and I am sure he can be a great mentor to him. "Those two can form a devastating partnership that nobody in the Premier League will be able to cope with. Ramires is the complete central midfield player. He can tackle, pass, he works hard, he is strong and he can score goals. "He will make the Chelsea midfield look frightening. "At such a young age, Ramires plays with no fear and playing at such a big club and in such big games won't trouble him." With Ramires in the bag, Chelsea will win their second domestic title in two years, in Kaka's opinion. "I don't see anybody stopping Chelsea making it two Premier League titles in a row," he declared. The Blues looked sluggish in the 1-3 Community Shield loss to Manchester United on Sunday and will really need to pull up their socks before kicking off their title defence against newcomers West Brom on August 14.- Kaká

Kakà just concerned about recovery Kakà said on his twitter account: “My declarations, [wich] are coming out in some media, are not true. My concern, at this time, is solely and exclusively with my physical recovery.” An interview would have been invented which forced Kaka to post a denial on Twitter. Those declarations were saying that Kakà will stay in Madrid until next summer, and after “only God knows”, and those words were echoed in many media (Marca, AS …). Furthermore, Florentino Perez would not be willing to let him go, according to the media. “A number of recent reports suggested that Inter were keen on signing the playmaker, but Perez is reportedly not interested in letting Kaka go. The Madrid supremo would consider selling Kaka to be a confirmation that the Blancos made a mistake by splashing out €65 million for the midfielder in 2009 and Perez is reluctant to let him leave.”- Kaká
Ancelotti says no thanks to Kaka Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out a move to bring Real Madrid playmaker Kaka to Stamford Bridge, according to The Sun. Ancelotti and Kaka worked together during their time at AC Milan and there have been speculation linking them with a reunion in England. Reports have suggested that Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is not too keen on keeping Kaka at the Bernabeu and is hoping to cash in on the £65million rated midfielder. However, Ancelotti has quashed the possibility of a move for Kaka. He said: "Kaka cannot come to Chelsea. "He was one player of mine and has done so much for Milan but now he belongs to Real Madrid and he will decide about his future along with his current club. "Certainly neither I nor Chelsea will decide his future."- Kaká
"AC Milan swiped Kaka from Real" Real Madrid almost signed Kaka in 2002 before AC Milan swooped to sign the Brazilian instead. Kaka's ex-agent, Wagner Riberio, claims he had offered Kaka to Real Madrid after Milan rejected the chance to snap him up. But Inter Milan changed their mind soon after and nabbed the Brazilian. "I went to Milan after being contacted, but Leonardo said they never needed Kaka because they had Rui Costa and Rivaldo," he told Uol Esporte. "I waved goodbye to Milan and went straight to Madrid, where we agreed a fee of $7 million, and that he would have been loaned out to Getafe. "Madrid were celebrating that they had Kaka, but then Milan's staff called me back and we closed a deal, otherwise he would have gone to Madrid in 2002."- Kaká
Seedorf: Kaka to Milan unlikely Clarence Seedorf thinks it is improbable that former teammate Kaka will make a return to AC Milan. Kaka's future has been the subject of fevered speculation since the end of last season - with injuries compounding a loss of form for the midfielder. He has been linked to both sides of Milan - Inter as well as AC - with indications that he could leave the Bernabeu as soon as the January window opens up. However, Seedorf thinks the Brazilian is unlikely to don the red jersey again. Speaking to the press in Italy, he said: "It's something unreal. Kaka is a friend and a great player, but I don't think there is any truth in this. "He is recovering from a big injury, and I hope he returns to form soon." Commenting on his own immediate future, the 34-year-old said: "Finish my career at Milan? I am not thinking about finishing." The Dutchman has won one Serie A and two Champions League trophies with the Rossoneri, but will be looking forward to winning some more silverware after three barren seasons.- Kaká
Kaka dismisses Real exit claims Brazil playmaker Kaka has rubbished reports he wants to leave Real Madrid for another club. The 28-year-old has not featured for the Primera Division club this season after undergoing a knee operation in the summer. He expects to be back in action in December, and felt compelled today to reiterate he has no plans to leave the Spanish capital in January. Speaking via his Twitter account, he said: "My declarations are coming out in some media that are not true. "My concern at this time is solely and exclusively with my physical recovery."- Victoria Beckham
