'Runway' and Klum stay in fashion By Jack Hannah CNN LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Make room on the catwalk: "Project Runway" is back. "Project Runway" was the subject of a tug-of-war between companies, but the show is finally back. 1 of 3 The design competition returns for a sixth season on a new network (Lifetime), in a new city (Los Angeles), with 16 new contestants, all looking to dazzle their way to fashion greatness. "Project Runway" premieres Thursday, about eight months later than its original date. The delay was because of a legal battle between Lifetime and the Weinstein Co. (which owns the show), and NBC Universal, parent company to Bravo (which aired "Project Runway" for five seasons). Despite the new home, the show's core -- supermodel host Heidi Klum, silver-fox mentor Tim Gunn and snarky judge duo Nina Garcia and Michael Kors -- remains intact. Klum says to expect "a lot of drama" between judges and contestants, and to keep an eye on the female designers in season six. The following is an edited version of the interview. CNN: Were you concerned, given all the legal battles, with "Project Runway's" future? Heidi Klum: I was never too concerned about it, to be honest with you. I mean, I talked with Tim Gunn a few times, because I would see him at different events, and he was like, "I hope we're gonna be on again! And what do you think?" I always said to Tim, "I don't think we have to worry too much. It's a great show. We have fans, and people really enjoy the show, and I think they will all figure it out." And you know, it didn't really have anything to do with us. It was kind of all the bigwigs figuring it all out. ... We had to sit back and wait and see what happens, and it all worked out. I was always very optimistic about it. CNN: This show is really a labor of love. What does it mean to you? Klum: I do love the show. I [was] there from the very beginning, from when the first seed was planted and Harvey Weinstein from the Weinstein Co. came to me and said, "I want to do a show about fashion, but I don't really know what to do, exactly." He always felt that there wasn't a show that showcased how clothes are being made. ... We had many, many meetings and thought about different things we could do and came up with doing challenges and models and putting a runway show together and kind of making it in a documentary style and do a show about designers. CNN: Give us a taste of what life is like for the contestants while "Project Runway" is shooting. Klum: Life for the contestants is very, very hard. ... When I film, for example ... I shoot a day; I have two days off. The days when I have off, they're filming; they're working; they're sewing; then they come in again for a day; we're judging; then I give them a new challenge; then I have a day off, but they're not, they're working. ... I always call it a pressure cooker because they're really full of anxiety, full of drive; they want to win, and they put all their heart and energy into it. It's very hard for them. They don't get a lot of sleep. CNN: Do you find it difficult to criticize some of the work you see when judging? Klum: No. I mean, everyone has a different opinion. Obviously, people at home will have a different opinion than I have or that Michael and Nina have, so that's why I always think that it's good that the three of us are sitting there. We come from three completely different fields. I'm someone who usually gets to wear the fashion. ... Michael is the person who makes it, so he knows how it is to be a designer. ... Nina comes from the magazine world. She is the person that gets to decide what gets to be put in the magazine, what is in and what is not. She is kind of someone, too, who sets the trends. Then we always have a glamorous guest there who has also been in the fashion industry: if it's a designer that's been around a long time or if it's an actor or an actress ... someone who really makes a statement in the fashion industry. I think we are a good mix. CNN: What are you most excited about for season six? Klum: What I'm most excited about is that the designers get to be on the air, because they have been waiting for a long time. ... I want America to see these people; they worked so hard, and they've spent so much time, so much energy on the show, and they deserve to be seen. I'm most excited really for the designers, that they finally get their credit for what they've done.

Beach Bag Bonanza Beach vacations, relaxing poolside, and barbecues with friends are part of everyone’s summer plans. But before the trips and celebrations begin, packing is the No. 1 priority. If you’re stressing about just which suit to buy or what beauty products to pack, Modelinia is here to help. Supermodels Heidi Klum, Hilary Rhoda, Karolina Kurkova, and Brooklyn Decker opened up their beach bags to show off their SPF levels, what they’re reading, and their iPod playlists, so you can strategize for the long weekend just like them! WHO: Heidi Klum BEACH BAG: I like a heavy-duty bag with lots of room for all the things the kids need at the beach. COVER UP: One of my favorite labels, Thomas Wylde, has a beautiful chiffon cover-up that I wear all the time, and J.Crew cotton sweaters are comfortable and inexpensive. LOTION: I use In An Instant tinted moisturizer, which has SPF in it. BOOK: I’m reading Pinkalicious with my daughter, Leni. It’s her favorite book! SUNGLASSES: I like the Chrome Hearts glasses.

Bad news... I don't like say it, but it about Heidi's business. I hope she have new line of other beauty things. (I still wan't anyone of her jewelry, but in Ukrain I can't buy it. Very sad.) Klum's jewelry dreams ended with lawsuit Last Update: 8/10 5:32 pm Supermodel Heidi Klum has shut down her jewelery business after she was taken to court by exclusive gem firm Van Cleef & Arpels. The runway beauty launched a collection of designs for Mouawad five years ago and the range was a success, selling out within moments of going on sale on TV shopping channels like QVC. But Klum reveals a lack of business experience, coupled with a lawsuit by Van Cleef & Arpels over one particular design, put an end to her jewelry dreams once and for all. She tells the Los Angeles Times, "I don't do the jewelry anymore, which I loved doing. "Unfortunately, I did have a partner who... maybe wasn't as knowledgeable in terms of setting up a business. I worked five years very hard on that. But we stopped because we had a lawsuit with Van clef & carpels - they wanted to have the clover, even though our designs had never matched, I don't know how may designs I had done in five years, maybe 800 different designs - but they just wanted to own the clover motif. "I think when you're a small company, which we are, we're not a Van clef - they have a thousand lawyers. I'm a small fry next to that. That’s a sad lesson to learn. "That’s how life is. You have to set yourself up from the very beginning properly."

THE SUNDAY CONVERSATION Heidi Klum The model, who is pregnant with her fourth child, just wrapped Season 7 of 'Project Runway.' By Choire Sicha August 9, 2009 Heidi Klum is the host of "Project Runway," which returns for a sixth season Aug. 20 on, yes, Lifetime; it was shot in Los Angeles. She is soon to be the mother of four with her husband, Seal: according to Klum, her youngest, Johan, will be 3 in November, Henry will be 4 in September, and Leni just turned 5. Can you tell me a little bit about what's going on with the new show that follows the lives of the models who appear on "Project Runway"? It's an extra show, a half-hour, "Models of the Runway." They're all new faces, they're all new girls, that no one already knows. It's a great exposure for them. It always has been, in the past -- but no one paid much attention to them. I hope they're terribly dramatic and badly behaved. No. They do cry a lot! Yesterday again, one had to go, and they all feel for each other. They live together, they like each other. What are you doing through the summer besides, you know, giving birth? Well, we just shot Season 7, that's why we're also in New York; we have our last day on Saturday. Then they have off till February, we'll do the finale in February. We're going to go on a holiday for a few weeks. Get the house ready. Get organized. When you're close to the end -- I wanna rearrange the whole house! I go in nesting mode. Are you going to go for a Bauhaus super-hippie modernist thing? No, no! And to be honest, most of the things for the kids are hand-me-down things. There's a piece Leni had, I took it from her. This piece used to belong to Henry. I was like, "You're going to get something pink, you'll be fine." And we're not into the pink or the blue. Good! Really, for a year the baby stays in our bedroom anyway. I just need a crib and a changing table. When you have a newborn, everything becomes very still -- while in a strange way, everything is very loud? Does that make sense? Wait till you have four in high school. In September, all three are in school! You sit in another room and they get evaluated, and Johan did all the puzzles. He impressed them. Does it feel odd to be putting young designers out in the world when the fashion world is in extreme crisis? I think that everything is kind of in crisis. But what are you going to do? Is everyone going to stop working? I think the best will always succeed in any world. The people who are working hard, I think they will stay out there. In terms of fashion, maybe there are things that are more needed than other things -- and the things that people cannot afford, maybe those things will go. But I don't think people should stop their dreams. A lot of our designers, people who have been on in the past, not everyone is self-employed. I think the only one who has become successful is Christian [siriano] -- on their own. I think the others are also successful, not as their own brand. Which I think is also success! They are working under good design houses. Or selling on HSN or Shopping Network. I was shocked when Christian Lacroix went into bankruptcy. Very sad. I think those people do have to exist. Those people who have such a fantasy about fashion. . . . I think it all trickles down, from these main designers who are maybe not as wearable, Galliano, all the ones who do spectacular things -- they say, who can really wear that? But they're the originators of so many things that the person on the street wears. A color, a pattern, the shoulder pads -- they really make it over the top, let's say really big -- then it trickles down and trickles down and then you can buy really big shoulder pads at Zara. How are your licensed brands doing? I do a bit of that. I do want to do more. Some things have started and closed. Like I don't do the jewelry anymore, which I loved doing. Unfortunately, I did have a partner who . . . maybe wasn't as knowledgeable in terms of setting up a business. I worked five years very hard on that. But we stopped because we had a lawsuit with Van Cleef & Arpels -- they wanted to have the clover, even though our designs had never matched, I don't know how may designs I had done in five years, maybe 800 different designs -- but they just wanted to own the clover motif. So they went after everyone who does that -- Louis Vuitton! -- they said, "We own the clover." And I was like, "Then who's the person with the clover and the person with the heart?" I think when you're a small company, which we are, we're not a Van Cleef -- they have a thousand lawyers. I'm a small fry next to that. That's a sad lesson to learn. But you know what? That's how life is. You have to set yourself up from the very beginning properly. You have a gorgeous tattoo. What is that? It's my husband's name. Can you see it, now that you know? Then I have three stars. They have the initials inside, of our children. You have room for, like, 18 more children! See, I planned ahead. But the fourth one will be the last one.
