I wouldn't say it's cheap-looking - it's kind of like the Tyra cover.

Tyra had her fingers lopped in her briefs, but she wasn't pulling them right down so that they only barely covered her you-know-what.

Like I said, my only complaint is that the briefs are too far down so it looks almost playboyish in that respect. If they had just let her rest her fingers in the loops and stretch them down a little, this cover would have been gorgeous and perfect. That's just my opinion though!

^ Same old stuff then. I don't love it. The way she's barely even wearing her briefs is really cheap looking, IMO. That's not Bar's fault though. I'm happy for her that she has got the cover! And for what it's worth, the bikini pattern actually looks very nice. If they just hadn't made her pull her briefs SO FAR down, I think it would have been an absolutely killer cover. xx

Oh, I'll also add, it's nice that this cover is much more simple than it's been for the last 2-3 years. Much less text!

A little disappointing considering that it's very predictable but that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve it. She does. Congrats to Bar! xxXxXxx

I'm really hoping Brooklyn cracks an American-girl smile in at least one of her pictures this issue! She's the girl who could really rock by giving the " cute and sexy" vibe and looking at her SI portfolio she's the one girl who refuses to smile She looks beautiful when she smiles though, much more beautiful than when she pouts.

I'm going to be waiting like an insane freak for the cover to surface!

I think that's a bit too simplified of an approach. SI is a business, obviously, and the model with the best photo (which is so subjective anyway) might not be the best model to go out and promote the issue. I mean, if a model took the greatest photo ever but is a bumbling idiot in interviews, she probably shouldn't get the cover. SI needs models who take great photos and can win over reluctant buyers via the promotional circuit, especially considering the current economy.

When I say " the best picture" I mean the picture that will look amazing and that means the picture that the editors know will SELL the issue!

I agree that SI is a business and so they're going to be looking for a cover model who has it all ( e.g, Marisa, IMO, who's an American girl who took a good cover shot and has a sweet and interesting personality.)

However, if SI is going to put a girl on the cover who has taken an average picture simply because she's going to sound good talking on Letterman, I don't think that's business smart.

You're right beauty is subjective, but IMO I look at the past SI issues and trust the magazines judgment on what a beautiful cover is!

And she might have had a wet see-through swimmie on, but she was smiling and still looked somewhat non-threatening. If she had been fashioning a pouty sexy face, it would have been WAY different. Not iconic.

I agree with, mbinebri, I like Daniella. She has a playful energy and a real SI Christie Brinkley type of smile!

I also really like the idea of Julie Henderson's location in the pottery barn, spinning the pots. Not for a cover, but the pictures from that should be cool if she models well! I laughed at her comment, " I've never been inside a real pottery barn. I've been to the one in New York, but that's it!"

^ I agree with what sweetandlow was saying about there being too much sex in SI recently.

Like I commented on the other page, it's the swimsuit issue. I think Marisa Miller's cover was fantastic, but she was wearing some very small briefs and that was it... wasn't really swimwear ( although I was so pleased she got the cover!)

In the new video's, you can see so many girls wearing " sand bikini's" etc. and IMO that's ridiculous. It makes you feel like SI is trying to compete with FHM and failing miserably. They should just be SI. SI is a big deal!!

If you watch the " making of" videos from the eighties with Julie Campbell ( is she still around at the issue??) she is constantly telling the girls to bring it back if they're doing too overtly sexy poses and I remember in one particular video Kathy Ireland saying what she had learned at SI was not to be too sexy, but that it was " all in the eyes."

They should get back to that attitude, IMO, if not with this new issue then with SI 2010. It was WAY sexier.

Okay, so it's just a few days until the new SI swimsuit cover is released for 2009 and that has caused me to reflect on the magazines previous covers. It has also caused me to reflect on the fact that Steph never did have an SI cover

So, I've made her two! Just to warn you, neither are very fantastic! I have 0% professional experience with photoshop and so was just trying my best with adobe 7. I have used basic texts and not added anything but what is basically on the covers.

The first cover has an " old school" SI feel to it whereas the second feels more modern, I think.

Hope you like them and think they're at least somewhat worthy of SI and Steph!

P.S: The " tag lines" featured on these covers are NOT original. I didn't know exactly where the SI pics of Steph I used were shot ( e.g, what country) so I just used tag lines from old covers! The first fake uses the tag line featured on Cheryl Tieg's 83' cover and the second features the tag line from Elle's 86 cover.

^ The fold out cover might sound cute ( very cute!), but it would totally ruin SI.

Part of the allure of the swimsuit issue from a modeling perceptive is that the cover is a prize position. Something you aspire to. If all of the girls got it ( and many of them being rookies) it would cheapen it, IMO. It would take away the prestige completely.

I have to say, I've just had a look over the past swimsuit issues and their model content... and it's made me a little blue! I think half of the models in the issue this year would have been considered not good enough for the magazine even in the early 90's.

I mean, think about it, SI used to have so many gorgeous, amazing models to choose from, they didn't even get around to putting LAETITIA CASTA on the cover!! Or Steph Seymour! Or Cindy Crawford!

Can you imagine if either Casta or Seymour or Crawford were in their prime today and up against these girls for the cover? I think we would all know who was going to get it!

I'm probably being so negative and stressy, sorry, I'm just SO desperate for this new cover to rock and look amazing!

I'm also really dismayed watching todays video at the amount of girls who were naked, not even WEARING swimsuits! I hate that. I love that SI is sexy ( although I don't like the FHM sex they keep projecting recently), but it's the SWIMSUIT ISSUE! They should at least have bikini bottoms on, IMO.
