Ruslana is in no rush to tie her name to scandals, & her friends are not drugs & alcohol, but her Mom. This successful model studied in Almaty school number 80, & today Ruslana is filmed for world famous brands such as Paul Smith, Clarins, Kenzo Accessories, Blumarine, Moschino and many others. Read more about Ruslana’s life and work in this exclusive interview. Were you a good student? What was your favourite subject? Yes, I was a good student. But I didn’t have any preferences for subjects, I am a curious person and I was interested in everything. I liked biology, and physics, although, no, physics I didn’t like so much it’s a very specific subject. I liked a little bit of everything. Were you popular with the boys at school? In reality, I was not interested in them. I had their attention, like any girl. I had other principles & interests in life. & where do you live now, and which city is your home? It’s the airport & my suitcase. And only in Almaty I have my own bed and pillow. A model’s life is very busy and one doesn’t say “I live here so don’t disturb me”. As far as I know, models’ lives are difficult, was it hard to adjust to this lifestyle? It’s very different from the life I led before. And at first it was hard. I had my school here, my friends, my family, & where I work, everything is the other way round, everyone is grown up there and there is nobody, in front of whom I could cry and complain. Thus some people stay in the modeling world and others can’t bear it and leave. Are you studying somewhere now? No, I just can’t force myself to study by correspondence-it’s not serious, it’s just a strategy to get a diploma. I need time to study, and at the moment I don’t have it. And which occupation would you have chosen other than modeling? I don’t have any preferences, not sure why. So at the moment I’m experimenting. What does your Mom think about your work? My Mom was against it, you, probably know yourself that for parents the most important thing is a stable education and an office job from 9 to 6. Do you dream to become a good wife and Mom? Of course I do. I don’t understand it at all when women devote all their time to career and only start thinking about motherhood after 30. A child needs to develop together with its parents. And there are many examples when models give birth & continue working. Natalia Vodianova, for example, has a second baby already and she always gets offers and contracts. The most important thing is to spend the first year with the baby, as far as I know, the first year is very important for the baby. After that, kindergarten and a nanny are possible. Is there a man on the horizon, with whom you would have liked to share your life? Not at moment. I think that everything happens in due course. In show business, people often relax using, to put it softly, unsafe ways: drugs and alcohol. What is your opinion about this? If somebody next to me does these things, I view it normally, I don’t judge them & I don’t copy them. Every person makes their own choices in life. When a person becomes very famous, accordingly there are more demands for them, and stressful situations occur more often. What do you do when this happens? I call my Mom, she knows how to console me really well, this topic is already exhausted (laughs). That’s how we survive. Mom is my best friend! It’s the only person whom I trust 100% and it’s the person who always supports me. Which designer dresses you? In reality, you can’t catch up with fashion, all famous designers say so. I buy what I like, the most important thing is for it to be comfortable. And I have other priorities in my life. Is it true that you earn 30 thousand euro a day? (Laughs.) I prefer not to speak about this. What is your star sign? I am Cancer, a very calm and private person. Do the paparazzi annoy you? No. I don’t like giving interviews, your newspaper is an exception. Did you have a mentor, who taught you how to behave with photographers and models, which contracts to sign and how not to get into trouble? No, unfortunately, I did not have such a person and in this sense it was very hard for me, there was no puppeteer who would have told me about the underwater currents in the professional modeling world. Like a blind kitten, I was poking my nose into everything and searching for the right way out. I made many mistakes during these years, which I would have liked to fix. Are you friends with oligarchs? Not really. Although I know that for oligarchs, it’s very prestigious to have a beautiful and young wife. Or at least a girl who escorts them in society. And did you escort somebody? No, I am not a girl who searches for a rich man. Although I have a friend, I won’t name her, who chose that kind of path and found her love among rich men. And they are happy. I’m not sure how exactly they make it work, I prefer not to think about it. It is said about many models, or even one could say that there is a tag-stupidity. What do you think about this? Of course, I am never going to bang myself in the chest and say no, I am not stupid. If it’s interesting for somebody to socialize with me, then please go ahead, if not-apologies, it’s not working out, nothing to worry about, it means we have different views. There are stupid models who have nothing to offer, and some models pretend and fake being stupid, although they are not really stupid. It’s very interesting, what goes on inside a person. Of course, that’s how models are described because models start their career very early, at the age of 13 or 14, it’s no longer a child & not yet an adult & everything that happens to them sculpts them & not necessarily for the better. Today you’re a model, tomorrow you’re somebody else, therefore it’s important to live in harmony with the world & other people. And what is your dream? My dream is to achieve my goals, I won’t say what it is, otherwise it won’t work out. Who is your beauty icon? There is no such person, I think that you must always be yourself
