La Liga tempts Del Piero Monday 15 June, 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero would be tempted by a move to Spain, considering that contract negotiations with his current club are yet to begin. Del Piero will see his contract expire in June 2010, when he will be 35-year-old with a potential market value of £10m. “This is a problem which sooner or later we will have to face, but there is still time to think about it,” said sporting director Alessio Secco. The Bianconeri Captain is reluctant to push for a renewal as he is expecting the club to make the first step at the negotiation table. Despite his wish to end his career in Turin offers from La Liga, as well as the USA and China, could make him change his mind. The same happened to Pavel Nedved who wasn’t offered a new contract and is now on the verge of joining either Lazio or Parma. “The next season will be fundamental for Alex,” confessed President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli. “He will be super motivated to play at the World Cup and he will need regular playing time. Still there will be time until the June 30, 2010 to sign a new contract,” concluded the patron. But June 2010 could already be too late to keep the Bianconeri No 10 at the Olimpico as he would be free to look for a new team come January. (Channel4) Absolute nonsense if you ask me...probably some bumby negotiations for a few months and a few concessions in salary, then everything will be settled.

First pics of little Tobias (9 months) Return to Pinzolo: Alex earns Scirea award Friday 25 July, 2008 Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has won the 2008 Gaetano Scirea award by a landslide margin. The prize is handed out each year to the player who journalists believe serves as an example for how to behave on and off the field. Last year Milan striker Pippo Inzaghi won the 16th edition of the award, which takes its name from one of the greatest Italian players of all-time. As well as being one of five players to win every national and international trophy recognised by FIFA, Juventus legend Scirea was renowned for his sportsmanship and dignity. Del Piero received 281 votes for this year’s title, leaving him easily clear of Roma’s Christian Panucci on 35. Veteran striker Vincenzo Montella and fiery Inter stopper Marco Materazzi received just 19 votes each. (Channel4)- Marat Safin
From the official site: 08.07.08 Marat has been granted a Wild Card into the Main Draws of both Masters Series in Toronto and Cincinnati. 09.07.08 Marat will return to Moscow from Sweden and then travel to Toronto for the Rogers Masters on Friday 18th July.- Marat Safin

Is Helen pregnant again, or does it just look like that?- Marat Safin
Not having passion and not showing it are two different things. Besides, Federer also used to smash rackets and be kicked out of tenniscourts. It isn't all what it seems.- Marat Safin
Interesting. I thought he was impossible to hate...- Marat Safin
What's that supposed to mean?- Marat Safin
Q. How dangerous is Safin now? Obviously he's not the same player as 2005, but he's got the two Grand Slam titles and he's obviously motivated again. Do you see him at the same danger level you might have a few years ago? ROGER FEDERER: Well, yeah, I mean, you've got to look at these guys, Ferrero, Roddick, Safin, Hewitt, these guys who have been No. 1 in the world and have won Grand Slams, you take them like they would be No. 1 in the world in some ways, because one day anybody can play great, especially the former greats like them. So I never looked at Marat like No. 89 in the world. I mean, that's ridiculous. You know, he knows that himself. He's finally showing again what he can do. It's just quite surprising he does it here at Wimbledon in some ways, because he used to dislike playing on this surface. So it should be interesting, because last year I wasn't happy to see Safin in my draw. I'm never happy. He probably knows that. Just been disappointed with the way he's been playing lately, but hopefully he's got a second thing going here in his career. I'm looking forward to playing him in case he wins this.- Marat Safin
He shouldn't be nonchalant with Federer - Roger Federer
