  1. the lamp she's beside in the latest candids -- SHE DESIGNED!!!!!!!! Karolina Kurkova: Now Available In Lamp Form June 9, 2011 4:11 pm She’s more used to modeling designers’ work than designing pieces herself, but Karolina Kurkova took to the drawing board for her latest project. Kurkova was selected as one of ten guest designers by West Hollywood gallery owner Jean de Merry to design a custom piece in honor of the ten-year anniversary of his artisanal, made-to-order furniture line and store. “Jean will tell you, I was very hands-on with this,” Kurkova said of her ornate, towering lamp. “I wanted something to really represent a woman’s essence, from her curves on top to the strength of the base on the bottom. Even the crystals sewn into the fabric are all from the Czech Republic [her homeland]. Every piece of this design has a part of me.” With all proceeds benefiting the charity of the designer’s choice, the project attracted a motley crew of talent (known as the JDM Ten), including local interior design star Oliver Furth, L.A. native Irene Neuwirth, and Katherine Heigl. Days away from his first Resort showing, Gregory Parkinson played on his love of prints and texture when designing his wood cabinetry. “My work is all about layering and mixing patterns and colors, and this really seemed to take that to the next level,” Parkinson said. “We’re bombarded with so much visually these days that it’s nice to have something that is just pretty…and functional as well.” Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra, with typical wit, created a chair that was more like a throne. “It’s lyrical but it still sort of has that humor,” Tagliapietra said of its antler details, inspired by vintage photos the pair came across. “I like my furniture to have a personality. It’s not like a piece of clothing that you have the luxury of saying you’re not in the mood for.” —Alexis Brunswick
  2. that picture is awesome!! such a STAR!
  3. literally. STUNNING. just such a "SUPER" supermodel appearance!! she's bringing the glamour and sex appeal a la Eva Herzigova. and i'm LOVING IT.
  4. i'm sorry -- i hate to be negative ... but what the hell is going on with KK's legs?!? she used to have arguably THE best legs in the business. and now they're looking almost .. deformed or something. like her knees are so bony compared to the rest!
  5. she needs to put on about 5 or 10 pounds. she's always had thin legs -- but those gym pics are too much.
  6. if KK gets a bunch of campaigns again this season -- i think she'll need to be moved back onto the models.com "ICONS" list. i mean, SERIOUSLY! if KK isn't an "icon", then i just don't get it.
  7. if i'm completely honest -- i'm having a difficult time appreciating this particular round of fashion week. KK just looks like she's lost WAY TOO MUCH weight. it can't be healthy. the backstage pics from one of the shows -- her cheekbones have never looked like that. the picture posted above from Fashion's Night Out is perfect! that's the "wow! she got her old body back! looks amazing!!" moment. now, it's "oh my god, kk! you used to stand for health and curves and natural beauty ... what are you doing?" she's my favourite model of all time, and i wish i didn't have to say this ...
  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you're my favourite model of all time, and i'm SO happy for your fashion comeback!! please don't get any more thin, though -- it's starting to look too much!
  9. ok. well i guess we shall have to agree to disagree. i think SI Swimsuit Issue has potential to be iconic again. but the way it's going now, it's just becoming more and more irrelevant. i've said all i can say on the matter and contributed as much to this thread as i can. cheers~
  10. Miranda, Rosie? Massively famous? I think you're suffering from a fashion fan's wishful thinking on a lot of the points you're making. I especially don't see why we should expect a turnaround this decade. Extremely few models over the past fifteen years have genuinely crossed over into celebrity status. Who's going to be the next Heidi? Erin Heatherton? Lilly Aldridge? I don't see it. Even with the models you pointed out, and a few others increasing in stature, it's debatable as to where their fame is coming from. I, for one, won't be pointing to the publicity around Rosie being cast as eye-candy in a movie or Miranda getting married to a famous actor as evidence of models becoming relevant again.
  11. ooooooooooooookkkk --- let me make a tiny addendum. i wrote that reply only after seeing the pics that were on the website. i didn't realize that the magazine scans would be slightly different. there IS more hope in the magazine itself. i still stand by everything in my previous post -- but my opinion of hte magazine contents itself isn't quite as negative now that i've actually seen the scans and seen that it's a bit different from the website pics. still negative, don't get me wrong. just not as dramatically. my favourite is Anne V. i also think that Irina has the most insane body! she's great for hte magazine. Izabel looked awesome during her run at VS and in all her men's magazine editorials since. not sure why they couldn't find her potential here. she's a great model with an awesome body. the rest of them --- meh.
  12. wwwwwwwooowwwwww!!!!!!!!!!! i can't believe how bad this magazine has gotten. seriously. SERIOUSLY! I'm not saying this as a "hater". i went out and bought EVERY SI Swimsuit Issue from Tyra's solo cover in 1997 to Daniela's in 2003 ... and, IMO, it's all gone further downhill ever since. it all just looks so CHEAP. and where is the interesting photography?? remember -- this magazine used to be as much about the gorgeous shots of the exotic locales as about the models. now it's just hte same poses. SAME girls. SAME expressions. SAME ugly swimsuits. there's no sense of ART whatsoever -- and so it is incredibly cheapened. genuine SUPERMODELS used to consider doing SI a real achievement and would participate in it -- from Naomi Campbell to Stephanie Seymour to Laetitia Casta, Heidi Klum, Rebecca Romijn, Tyra Banks, Eva Herzigova, etc etc. Not to mention the other supermodels from the 80s and early 90s. and it used to actually MEAN something. but now. now, it's just so boring and unoriginal. the SI Swimsuit Issue needs a MAJOR overhaul. the very first thing i would do is IMMEDIATELY FIRE ALL CURRENT PHOTOGRAPHERS. get some genuine artists in there. some photographers that can capture EMOTION and ENERGY and LIFE and BEAUTY. Bruce Weber, for example. get some fashion photographers that can help these girls and save them from posing like your cheap chick on the cover of Hustler. next - i would mercilessly remove about 98% of the girls that are now included. there's no denying that these models are beautiful, but they're just so boring in these shots. and who is this Jessica Gomes woman?! i can go to ANY beach anywhere in the world and find at least 5 women with better bodies. why on earth has she been cast in what used to be THE most prestigious swimsuit magazine ever?!? no -- i'm not a fashion snob. and i wouldn't hire some bone-rack like Freja to do the SI shoot. but there are SO many absolutely stunning fashion models who would bring an air of sophistication and credibility back to the magazine .. and who have insane bodies. like Lara, Edita, Rosie, Eniko, Daria, etc etc. None of these models would ever consider doing the magazine as it is right now. but if it suddenly took a turn toward a more artistic vision, and there were respected photographers on board -- they'd all come. and then so would the fashion fans. and because these women are already well-known by a certain portion of the world ... having them then be recognized by another portion of the world could once again create the sort of high-fashion/commercial supermodels we used to have.
  13. ooooooh, i'm loving the fringe she's sporting nowww!! looks really great, kk!
  14. omg nef!!! where are you getting all of these?? just AMAZING! i love that she was THE Chanel girl in that show.
  15. her look at JPG is startlingly amazing. her body and her FACE and the makeup. overwhelmingly incredible. thanks for posting!
  16. i have a lingering suspicion we'll see her in a couple.
  17. i just think that's the most incredible shot. i love it so much. and SO radically different from her MAX MARA campaign. yet she remains distinctly Karolina Kurkova in all the shots. THAT, to me, is the mark of a true supermodel. i cannot wait to see the rest of the Bottega campaign.
  18. Bottega Veneta Max Mara Jean Paul Gaultier plus --- potentially Elie Saab and though they're not "fashion campaigns" per se, the Mercedes Benz and John Frieda contracts are certainly money-makers.
  19. how much money do you think she's getting paid for the Mercedes campaign? this should be a great year for KK! i'm sure the John Frieda campaign is paying very well, plus the Max Mara and the Bottega Veneta. she's raking it in.
  20. according to her facebook, she was off to China for work. and now with that man's tweet, i think we can pretty much guarantee that she'll be shooting for VOGUE China. i hope she gets the cover. i LOVED her 2nd outfit at the VSFS last night. amazing!
  21. ooooooohhh amaaazing!!! what a truly EPIC post! thank you so so soooo much!
  22. and here are a bunch more:
  23. some more!
  24. so ... is she "Sheik" or "Shayk" ?? either way -- i hope to see her at the VSFS this year.
