While The Conjuring: Last Rites breaks records at the box office, both for The Conjuring Universe and the horror genre at large, Variety reports this afternoon that a previously announced The Conjuring television series is officially moving forward at HBO Max. Nancy Won (“Supernatural,” “Jessica Jones”) will serve as the project’s showrunner, writer and executive producer, Variety reports. Peter Cameron (“Werewolf by Night”) and Cameron Squires (“WandaVision”) have also boarded the series as writers. James Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions and Peter Safran’s The Safran Company will produce the franchise’s very first small screen project, in association with WBTV. The series will “continue the story established in the feature films.” The Conjuring: Last Rites was billed as the final installment in the franchise universe’s “Phase One,” with the film’s massive box office success ensuring that the franchise isn’t going anywhere any time soon. The Conjuring films are based on the real-life case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively. There are currently nine films in The Conjuring universe — The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun 2, and this year’s The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Bryan Fuller makes his feature directorial debut with the Mads Mikkelsen-starring Dust Bunny this December, which reunites Fuller and Mikkelsen ten years after their NBC series “Hannibal” came to an end. Fuller has never given up hope on “Hannibal” returning to television, and he tells Screen Rant that he’s now got a particular dream scenario in mind. “My dream project is to do a limited series of Silence of the Lambs with Mads and Zendaya as Clarice Starling,” the creator of NBC’s short-lived “Hannibal” television series tells the outlet. “If I could put anything out into the universe, I would put that into the universe.” Fuller has made no secret of the fact that he wants to put his own spin on Silence of the Lambs within the “Hannibal” universe, but that’s a bit more complex than you might be thinking. The reason NBC’s “Hannibal” never delved into the events of The Silence of the Lambs is because the rights to that particular story (and its characters) are held by MGM, and MGM recently brought the character back with their own series “Clarice,” which aired on CBS. The series, which came to an end after just one season, was a sequel to The Silence of the Lambs. The De Laurentiis Company owns the rights to the character of Hannibal but not the Silence of the Lambs story/characters, which is the big hurdle Bryan Fuller would have to overcome. Bryan Fuller has been keeping the hope alive for the return of “Hannibal” ever since NBC pulled the plug back in 2015, but at this moment in time, there seems to be no actual movement in regards to any sort of revival. “Hannibal” ran for three seasons on NBC between 2013 and 2015, and the show’s massively dedicated fanbase has been hungry for its return ever since. It’s only a matter of time before Hannibal Lecter returns to the screen. Here’s hoping it’s Mads Mikkelsen who once again finds himself in the role. Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

Netflix and AMC Networks are expanding their streaming partnership that will give viewers more options when it comes to watching Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe and The Walking Dead spinoff series. Variety reports that the new extended deal will offer Netflix subscribers in the U.S. access to new seasons of current AMC Studios franchises. That includes “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire” Season 2, which will be available September 30, “Dark Winds” Season 3, and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” Season 2 in October, as well as the second seasons of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” and “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.” “Talamasca: The Secret Order,“ which is the third series in the Immortal Universe, will premiere on October 26, 2025, on AMC and AMC+. As for when to expect it on Netflix, look for the series to arrive on the streaming platform “sometime next year.“ The six-episode inaugural season will focus on the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, and other creatures scattered around the globe. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) and Mark Lafferty (“Halt and Catch Fire”) are showrunners and executive producers, with John Lee Hancock seated in the director’s chair. “We are pleased to expand and extend our branded content licensing agreement with Netflix, with an even stronger focus on the franchises that are resonating with viewers and performing so well on Netflix,“ AMC Networks CEO Kristin Dolan said. “This renewal also brings some of our franchise titles, including forthcoming seasons, to Netflix subscribers in select international markets, complementing our own international reach. Netflix has been an incredibly valuable partner, helping raise awareness and interest in our popular and acclaimed AMC Studios series.” The new pact will also give Netflix access to other AMC Networks library titles like “NOS4A2,“ joining Netflix’s lineup that also includes “Fear the Walking Dead“ and “A Discovery of Witches.”

While we wait for their Friday the 13th television series “Crystal Lake,” Deadline reports tonight that A24 is also boarding the iconic Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise! Deadline’s report confirms a scoop previously broken by The Insneider. The rights had been up for auction, with multiple interested parties around Hollywood, and the site’s sources have indicated that A24 is close to winning film and television rights. Deadline also reports, “First up would be a series from JT Mollner, Roy Lee and Glen Powell, though the latter will not star as we previously told you.” “Apparently, the deal hasn’t closed yet, but A24 has pole position,” Deadline makes sure to note in tonight’s report. “Another source close to the action tells us that this is all premature, but it’s clear that the genre label behind Hereditary isn’t letting this one go.” The outlet also mentions that Roy Lee has expressed interest in making another Texas Chainsaw Massacre film for Netflix, which could still happen with A24 boarding the property. The rights to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are represented by Verve, with other interested parties in recent months including Jordan Peele, Osgood Perkins, and Taylor Sheridan. It’s now been three years since Netflix premiered Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a “legacy sequel” to Tobe Hooper’s original horror classic that arrived on February 18, 2022.

Tales from the Woods’ Anthology Series Reimagines Fairy Tales from Horror Veterans Wayward Entertainment’s upcoming horror anthology series “Tales from the Woods” reimagines classic fairy tales from a horror lens from prominent horror filmmakers, and the first two episodes are set to debut this week at Fantastic Fest. “Tales from the Woods” is targeting an early 2026 streaming launch after its festical run. Part of that festival run includes Mattie Do‘s The Sleeping Beauty and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead‘s Jacques the Giant Slayer, both making their US debut this week at Fantastic Fest as the first two installments of the series. It’s the latest horror anthology series from Wayward Entertainment partner and producer John Hegeman (Holidays, Hulu’s Into the Dark), and it reimagines the dark origins of the world’s most beloved fairy tales in short form. Hegeman says “Most of the Fairy Tales we all have come to love were pretty dark and took the concept of “a cautionary tale” to the extreme.
