January 5, 20178 yr Introducing Kate Bosworth x Gemini Link Photographed by Margaret Zhang We talk to actress Kate Bosworth about all things Gemini Link — plus, she shares a behind-the-scenes bit from her shoot with photographer Margaret Zhang. What’s in my Gemini Link bag...iPhone, Glossier balm, Glossier stretch concealer, Chanel lipstick, Tory Burch sunglasses, wallet, small gray Moleskine for notes, Montblanc pen, gum (Big Red) and a small snack if I am running around, like almonds or an apple. What I love about the style...I love the aesthetic. It has a cool Seventies California vibe that I love so much but is also a classic. But perhaps what I love most is what the Gemini Link bag represents, which is the multiple roles we take on as powerful women. I am an actress, a producer, a stepmother, a friend, a wife… We are all many things and I adore that this bag embodies this sentiment. My style tips for wearing the bag during the day...Wear it with a great pair of flared blue jeans and a simple white T-shirt. I feel that the bag should speak for itself. And at night... Black leather pants with an oversized boyfriend sweater — make it cool and edgy but casual and easy. A fun behind-the-scene fact from the shoot...The owner of the home we shot in had two gorgeous Hungarian Vizsla dogs who were everyone’s favorite crew members on the day, for sure. The two sides to my personality...Professional and casual home life. When I am working or on set, I am laser-focused in terms of what needs to be accomplished professionally. When I am home, I am relaxed and casual — normally drinking a whiskey and having fun with my husband. Favorite Gemini Link style...I’m partial to the rainbow striped version. It personifies California cool meets classical East Coast. As I was raised equally on the West and East coasts, this dual aesthetic happens to be the two sides to me. My zodiac sign...Capricorn. I am a stubborn sea goat who knows exactly what she wants and works very hard to make her dreams a reality. The idea behind the Gemini Link shoot with Kate Bosworth... Building a visual representation of modern women and their dualities, aligned with the Gemini collection. The inspiration behind the location in L.A...I didn’t want to shoot forced lifestyle imagery or sterile studio imagery. We wanted to build a story around Kate’s evolving character in an intimate environment with a visual reference to film stills. The clean lines of this house in the hills in Los Angeles complemented our storyline perfectly. When getting dressed, bag first vs. outfit first...Outfit first. I usually start with outerwear and work my way in, then reach for the closest bag in sight. Being in front of the camera vs behind it...I love being behind the camera as this really is the control seat for any imagery produced. However, I’ve learnt so much being in front of the camera and having the opportunity to work with so many other talented creatives that I might not have otherwise. Left brain vs. right brain...I think the only way I stay sane is to bounce between using both — for instance, the difference in mindset between consulting on digital marketing strategy and writing a treatment for a fashion film, is refreshing and necessary to sustain inspiration. The key to balancing the creative and business sides of fashion...I think they naturally balance each other so well. When you come up against a road block in business, you need creativity to solve it, and vice versa. It’s hard to make an impact without your creative ideas flexing a bit of business muscle.
