The beautiful Kirsten Johnston, the great and funny star from 3rd Rock From the Sun.

Kristen Johnston (born September 20, 1967) is an American stage, film, and television actress. She may be most famous for her role as Sally Solomon in the television series 3rd Rock from the Sun. She also starred as Wilma Flintstone in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas. Johnston is 6'1".

Johnston was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of a real estate agent and a Republican state senator from Wisconsin. Johnston was raised mostly in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, where she attended St. Eugene's Catholic Grade School and Whitefish Bay High School. She spent some of her teen years as an exchange student in Sweden and in South America. She earned a B.F.A. degree in drama at New York University.

Johnston made her professional stage debut with New York's Atlantic Theater Company, which was founded by playwright David Mamet. During her association with that company, she appeared in such productions as As You Like It, Girl's Talk, Stage Door, Author's Voice, Portrait of a Woman and Rosemary for Remembrance. She teaches acting at New York University.

She has performed with the Naked Angels Theatre Company in The Stand-In and Hot Keys, and with New York Stage and Film in Kim's Sister, with David Strathairn and Jane Adams. For her performance in The Lights at Lincoln Center Theatre, Johnston was nominated for a Drama Desk Award as Best Supporting Actress. The show brought her to the attention of a Carsey-Werner television executive. After numerous auditions in 1996 for the TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun, she won the role of Sally Solomon. She starred in the series from 1996-2001 along with John Lithgow, Jane Curtin, French Stewart, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the role earned her two Emmy Awards for best supporting actress in a comedy series.

Johnston made her feature film debut in The Debt, winner of Best Short at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. In 1995, she played Kate in Backfire. Other television credits include guest-starring roles on the series Chicago Hope, Hearts Afire, and The Five Mrs. Buchanans. She was also the narrator in Microscopic Milton on the Disney Channel. Her significant roles in commercially-successful movies included Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999, Austin Powers in Goldmember in 2002 and Music and Lyrics in 2007.

In 1998, she was a spokesmodel for the Clairol company, as well as appearing on the Bad Religion's No Substance album cover.

Johnston appeared in the sixth and final season of Sex and the City. In the episode entitled "Splat!", her character, Lexi Featherston, an aging party girl, accidentally falls out of a window and dies, prompting Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) to reexamine her life. In 2005, Johnston featured in six episodes of NBC's ER. She was cast as Patsy in a proposed American remake of the British TV show, Absolutely Fabulous, but the series was never picked up by a network. She appeared in a recurring role in the 2009 season of Ugly Betty.

Standing in the pencil-thin shadow of celebrities like Nicole Richie, the Olsen twins, Lindsay Lohan and even Angelina Jolie, former 3rd Rock From the Sun and Austin Powers star Kristen Johnston is the latest actress to make gossip headlines for being dangerously thin.

You might remember Kristen from her 90's hit sitcom – she played Sally Solomon, a brash, tough-talking alien trapped in the body of a robust, sturdy-but-sexy woman. Kristen played up her round hips, large breasts and over 6 feet of height to create a character who wore her sexiness like an oversized pair of combat boots that she would kick your ass with – and it worked for her.

According to recent reports, the voluptuous actress told People Magazine she had picked up a little more weight in the past 2 years than she was comfortable with, thanks to a diet of “pizza, BLTs and fries.” A stint in the hospital caused her to take a look at her life and she decided to make lifestyle changes, which have lead to her losing over 60 lbs in just a year and a half.

Many celebrities have been criticized for their skeletal frames, all the while denying that their weight loss is anything but healthy. Even Kristen says of her dramatic pound-shedding, “I think it looks great. I feel amazing. I no longer stress about my body.”

In Hollywood, somehow thin continues to be in – and we’re not talking, curvy Natalie Portman and Katherine Heigl we’d-die-to-have-your-body thin. We’re talking about dramatic-weight-loss-experiencing, bone-rattling, size-negative-2, sunken-eyed, pallor-skinned celebs who look like they’re one skipped meal away from anorexia.

We’re not saying that club includes Kristen, per se – it’s just one picture and the cameras can lie. But we are worried and a little sad over the type of body image that has somehow crept its way into the world we're supposed to have a healthy idolization for.

Healthy lifestyle changes are wonderful and we support the healthy weight loss that comes from them. But we think Kristen should take her own advice and back up about 6 or 8 lbs in her weigh loss. Staying healthy can mean keeping weight on as well as taking it off.

We’re just saying, curves are hot. Be careful of taking the slender trend too far.
