Kaka could return for Getafe game

Real Madrid playmaker Kaka could be in line for his first appearance of the season against Getafe.

The Brazil international, a £56million signing from AC Milan in the summer of 2009, has not represented Madrid since last May and underwent a meniscus operation in August, but he has been called up by Jose Mourinho for the trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Also included is Argentina midfielder Fernando Gago, who has not played for Madrid this campaign either due to a knee problem.

Gonzalo Higuain and Jerzy Dudek are absent through injury, though, while Pepe and Ricardo Carvalho are suspended and Mahamadou Diarra has been omitted.

Kaka in line to play against Getafe

Real Madrid playmaker Kaka could make his first appearance of the season after being included the squad against Getafe.

Mourinho confirmed Kaka is not yet ready to push for a starting spot but suggested the Brazilian could get a run-out at the end of tomorrow`s derby.

"He will not be a starter against Getafe, he`s not even close to that yet. He can give us 15 or 20 minutes of his great quality, but no more," said the Portuguese.

"We need to highlight what a fantastic professional he is for having done such an incredible job. The medical team have followed him very closely and he's had a recovery expert with him practically 24 hours a day working very hard.

"Now that Kaka has returned it`s time to congratulate everyone who has worked with him, and above all the player himself, who has been a fantastic processional."

The return to fitness of Kaka is a timely one as it is not known when Higuain will be back.

The Argentina international, who was Madrid`s leading scorer in La Liga in the last two seasons, is facing surgery on the back problem that has sidelined him since November.

That would leave Madrid with just Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema as senior players to lead the line for Madrid, but the availability of Kaka will give Mourinho more options up front.

Mourinho said: "For the six months when we were missing Kaka we built a team without Kaka. Now Higuain isn`t available and we will have to build a team without him. A team has to adapt to the circumstances and at times the players have to play in positions which aren't theirs."

Regarding any possible exits during the January transfer window, Mourinho added: "The information from the club is that no players are going. We have 25 places occupied, the players who have played less are quality ones, we have confidence in them and their time will come.

"The information that I have is that we will continue until the end of the season with the same 25, which would then be 24 because of Higuain."

Mourinho: "Kaka is ready to give us 15 or 20 minutes of his supreme quality"

"We are in good form, so it would be Getafe's fault if we don't win, not ours"

Laura Navas / Translation by Michael J. O'Donnell

Jose Mourinho addressed the media after training. The coach discussed Kaka's recovery and Higuain's injury.

"We didn't have Kaka for six months and we built a team without him. We now miss Higuain and we will have to come up with a team without him. This side has to adabt to the circumstances. Players sometimes have to play in positions they are not used to and we may have to come up with a different system of play. It is a challenge for all of us. Everything is decided in the last six months of the season and we have to find balance. We may end up playing 14 games between January and February, so we must be pragmatic and objective. We are all in this together to make things work."

"Kaka will not be a starter against Getafe. He isn't fit enough to even try, but he can give us 15 or 20 minutes of his supreme quality, no more. He is a fantastic professional and he's done an amazing job. The Medical Staff has followed him closely and he's had a recovery expert with him practically 24 hours a day working very hard. His return prompts us to congratulate him and those who worked with him. Kaka is a fantastic professional."

"The Medical Staff and myself have been certain for one month that Higuain must have surgery. There were some enlightened people who said he could recover without surgery and people tend to accept as truth that which they want to hear. These enlightened people changed their opinion after a month and Higuain must now have an operation. It's a shame because Higuain is a fantastic player and a great kid. I feel very sorry for him and also for the team, which comes first, but I'm glad a serious Medical Department like ours has been proven right in the end. I managed to talk very little about Kaka for six months and to give all my confidence to those who worked with him. We will try to do the same with Higuain and remain close to him. It is a tough time psychologically for the player and we must support him, avoid talking about it and give confidence to the players available on the team."

"Getafe are playing very well and they've earned several straight victories. They are very confident and positioned well on the table, which allows them to remain calm. We've been training well for four days, concentrating hard and working with intensity. We are in good form, so it would be Getafe's fault if we don't win, not ours."

"What I know about Michel is what football lovers know, mainly his career as a Real Madrid player. He was one of the most important footballers of his generation and we also know the career he's had as coach. Michel's heart is for Real Madrid and people like that will always find the Club's doors open for them. That's how I feel about the chances he may have in the future to coach this team."

After the match Getafe – Real Madrid, Kakà was the center of all the attention. He made an interview and was thrilled with his come-back. He talked about many things like twitter and the support from his family. (from realmadrid.com)

Kaka was delighted with his first appearance with the team following months of recovery.

“I’ve had some tough times and the things I’ve missed the most are the team get-togethers, training with my team-mates, being with them in the dressing room, playing before our supporters… I lacked the joy I get from playing. I’m available now and I will do my best to play with joy again.”

“I am very happy for playing a game again and for stepping onto a pitch. Coming back with a victory is the best thing that could’ve happened to me. I wish to thank my wife (she knows what I’ve gone through), my parents, my parents-in-law, and many friends who know what’s happened. At times, I was afraid when I thought about when I was going to come back or if I ever would. I must now earn a spot because the team is in great form. Competition is always good for the team.”

“I wish to thank Mourinho for the great help he’s given me all this time. He is boosting my confidence to play again.”

“I’ve met many people through Twitter and I’ve received many messages of support. It’s important for me to feel the people’s affection this way. I’ve received many messages of support on my mobile from friends, former team-mates and people who are happy to see me return. I thank them all. I must now keep going.”

“A player feels very much alone when he is seriously injured and you go through it alone despite the help you get from others. We have to be by Higuain’s side. He will play again and he will be the great player he is today. I hope he returns as soon as possible.”

“It won’t be a problem if I have to play closer to the goal. We’ll have to wait and see how the coach builds the team. I have to earn a spot. The team is playing very well and competition is always very positive. The match against Getafe was hard, but what mattered in the end was winning. It was special to play for 20 minutes.”

Inter don't want Kaka, Ronaldinho

Inter Milan's technical director Marco Branca has distanced the club from moves for Kaka and Ronaldinho.

Reports have suggested that the reigning Serie A champions are keen to land the Brazilian duo this month.

New Inter boss Leonardo has worked with both men before at cross-city rivals AC Milan and was believed to be looking to snap up his fellow countrymen.

However, Branca insists there is nothing in the speculation and is adamant neither player will be turning out for the Nerazzurri any time soon.

"Kaka? We have never given any consideration to such an eventuality," he said.

"Ronaldinho? When I read this in the morning I thought it was more a media necessity to fill space, rather than serious news.

"If we never thought about Kaka, then we certainly did not consider Ronaldinho."

Branca claims Inter are unlikely to enter the transfer market again until the summer, but concedes the club are among those keeping a close eye on Udinese's Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.

"Sanchez? I have a 23-year relationship with Udinese and we have never had any problems, but I said before our market will go forward in June," he added.

"Inter are following him, but there are also other clubs. For now we are OK as we are."

Mourinho: Kaka will feature

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Kaka will play a part in Sunday’s clash against Villarreal.

However, the Portuguese manager also revealed that he will not field the Brazilian from the start as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

"Kaka will play," Mourinho is quoted as saying by Madrid's official website in his pre-match press conference on Saturday.

"He is the only forward we have if we are losing or level. He is the only option. And if things go well and we have the match under control, he will also play in order to rest a team-mate. It is good news for Madridismo and football lovers."

The former Inter Milan and Chelsea chief has also come to terms with the fact that no new strikers will arrive during the January transfer window after club president Florentino Perez confirmed that the club will not buy any forwards.

"I have been working on tactics without a centre-forward," Mourinho explained

"I arrive early, stay late and work on what I must work on. It's the typical life of a coach.

"Everything depends on winning more or less and playing better or worse. I always try to improve, which is what I ask of my players as well. I want them to give it their all and to be good professionals like me."

The capital side are now lagging some five points behind Barcelona after the Catalan giants mauled Deportivo La Coruna 4-0 on Saturday.

Real Madrid 4-2 Villarreal

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick and set up another for Kaka as Real Madrid beat Villarreal 4-2.

Madrid twice fought back from deficits to defeat Villarreal in an entertaining encounter at the Bernabeu.

Villarreal led through goals from Cani and Marco Ruben during a hugely impressive first-half display, but they were pegged back each time by strikes from Ronaldo.

The second half belonged almost entirely to Madrid and Ronaldo gave the home side the lead they deserved with his third of the match 10 minutes from time, and two minutes later he provided the pass for the fit-again Kaka to score his first goal of the season.

The Brazil international has only just returned from a knee operation.

The victory means Madrid, who beat Villarreal 6-2 in last season's corresponding fixture, have now won 17 successive competitive matches at home and move back to within two points of leaders Barcelona.

Villarreal remain in third spot, but they are now a massive 11 points behind Madrid in second.

The Yellow Submarine looked capable of trimming the gap between the two - and ending Jose Mourinho's remarkable unbeaten home record in league matches which stretches back almost nine years - after they enjoyed a flying start, opening up the Madrid defence with a fine move right from kick-off.

On that occasion Santi Cazorla saw his shot deflected just wide, but it was the start of what proved to be a torrid first period for the home defence.

The next time the visitors had Madrid in serious trouble was in the seventh minute, and it resulted in the opening goal of the game.

Giuseppe Rossi threaded the ball through on the edge of the box to Cani, who flicked a fine finish past Iker Casillas.

Villarreal's advantage lasted just two minutes though before Madrid drew level with a superbly-worked goal.

Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil combined well on the edge of the area to put the latter in behind the Villarreal defence and the Germany international's pass was slotted in by the unmarked Ronaldo at the far post.

Despite that setback, Villarreal continued to play their attractive passing game and they retook the lead in the 19th minute through Ruben's excellent finish.

Ruben raced onto Bruno Soriano's through-ball before lifting the ball over the out-rushing Casillas as Madrid appealed in vain for an offside flag.

That looked set to be the half-time scoreline, but Ronaldo had other ideas and he drew the teams level again just before the break, getting to Xabi Alonso's free-kick ahead of Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez to glance the ball in.

Madrid could consider themselves fortunate to be on level terms at the break, but it was a different story after the break as the hosts found themselves increasingly camped in Villarreal territory.

Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria both blazed decent shooting opportunities over before Benzema was denied by Lopez at his near post.

Ronaldo spurned a great opportunity in the 64th minute after finding himself with just Lopez to beat. Perhaps thinking he was offside, the Portugal international dithered on the ball and in the end the shooting chances was lost.

Rossi threatened on a rare Villarreal counter-attack before Madrid went close again, Benzema once more being denied by Lopez.

A Madrid goal was looking increasingly likely, and it duly arrived in the 80th minute through Ronaldo.

He was unable to make the most of his first opportunity but he managed to regain possession before spinning and firing a low left-footed shot into the corner of the net.

That was Ronaldo's 22nd league goal of the season, his fourth hat-trick of the campaign and means he has now scored 64 goals in just 62 appearances since his world-record transfer from Manchester United in 2009.

Ronaldo was not done yet though, and he turned provider soon after to help substitute Kaka wrap up the points with a neat finish.

Mourinho celebrated that goal in front of the Villarreal bench, which did not go down well with the visitors, one of whom threw a water bottle in the direction of the Portuguese.

It missed, but the referee raced over to brandish a red card to one of the Villarreal contingent on the sidelines.

Kakà’s quotes (from RM.com)

“Thanks to the fans for the warm welcome”

Kaka saw his first action in the Bernabeu on Sunday after a long-standing injury and even scored Real Madrid’s fourth goal of the night.

“To return to the Bernabeu and score was such a special moment. It had been a long time since I scored, so it was very important to me. I felt such raw emotion from the crowd. It is hard to describe. I would like to thank the fans for such a warm welcome after all the problems I had. It was all worth it. Hard work pays off.”

“Villarreal came to play. They are a very talented team. We insisted and insisted because we knew how important it was to win at home. Mourinho proved why he is the best coach in the world. He made changes with respect to how the game was unfolding and he motivated us to improve in the second half.”

“Cristiano Ronaldo is an incredible player. He has decided many matches and will continue to do so for Real Madrid. He deserves everything that comes his way. It’s not a matter of how he is but what he is like. He is a great player that stuns us all day after day with goals and his way of playing. He is fundamental to this team. It is so much better to be playing by his side.”
