So, I run Avast, but (while running) it says it cannot scan archive files. Also, it stops running and displays error message that it cannot scanned :F drive, even though I had a CD in the F drive.

Did you put the tick before "scan archives"?

It can't scan archives which are protected by passwords, otherwise it can.

I have no idea about the cd. Maybe try scanning that alone.

Where can you tick the archive?

When you choose what to scan, a little window comes up from the top of the main window. That is where you can set the thoroughness of the search, and you can also set it to scan archives.

Yeah, i did that. I have disabled drive scans, so now it doesn't scan my CD drives anymore.

You don't need to disable that. It handles the hard drives and the removable media separately.

Just don't scan the removable media, but scan the hard drives. That's the button on top right.

And the one not to be pushed is the one under it.

Hard drives are scanned without any problem.

But, the archive files still can't be scanned.

I don't have passwords set for that.

I can't scan password protected archieves either.

Can you scan the rest?

After you chose to scan the hard drives, put a tick before scan archieves, and then push the "Play" button.

I can scan everything except archives and the CD or USB drives.

So how do I select archive? I have ticked everything, except the CD-drive.

Clear your desktop. Now there is nothing on it.

Right-click the Avast! icon in your sys-tray.

Choose avast start-up /probably 2nd from top/

Now you see the main screen. In the middle you see info about your application.

There are six buttons surrounding this field.

Click top right button. / if you hover your mouse over it, it says: hard-disks.

A little window will come up from the top.

In this little window you can set it to search archives.

Now push the "play" button on the left.

/I'm not seeing it now in English, so the button names may differ./

Thanks a lot!

I just noticed it.

Anyway, I was surfing some sites, when suddenly Avast's "Virus found" warning message popped up. So, I did a thorough scan, but no virus were detected. I opened the virus chest, but didn't find any quarantined file. What happen to the virus? Was it automatically deleted?

It can detect -and stop- viruses that try to install on your comp from websites.

Have you tried SpywareBlaster?
