Jamrock Magazine Spring 2012

On a bright sunny Sunday morning at the Union Square Studios, JAMROCK’s glam-squad is patiently awaiting the arrival of super model, Jeneil Williams. Fresh off the runway from New York Fashion Week, Jeneil arrived overly excited to meet everyone on set and share hugs and kisses upon her greeting as if they were her close-knit family. Joking around and smiling endlessly, she just seems so…happy. And she has a lot to be happy about. Not only has she survived six years modeling in a cutthroat industry for high-end designers and global multi-billion dollar brands, Jeneil is now on the verge of creating a fashion empire of her own. She also has an eye-candy of a boyfriend and enjoying life to fullest. Consider her our super model to the world!

Call her the Grace Jones of our time, Jamaican-born Jeneil Williams, at 21, is the new heroine of black beauty. Within the last couple years the fashion industry has had its fair share of benefits working with Jeneil. She’s the newest face in recent times and its obvious why the world of fashion is obsessed with her: Convincing eyes framed with an arch of voluminous brows, high structured cheekbones that shows off great detail of her smile and compliments her plump lips, skin as deep as chocolate and as smooth as silk. Not to mention her walk, her Jamaican accent and charismatic charm is an instant reminder of Jeneil’s all round beauty. Forget the chatter about the lack of diversity on the runway and weight issues that arise as conversation of choice from insiders, Jeneil is breaking down barriers and is more than happy the gossip doesn’t apply to her. “I am not a size zero, I am toned and I have gotten a lot of criticism for being too toned. I don’t let that get to me because I love my body and I know I look beautiful. Once you have that confidence in yourself then everybody believes you.”

Foundation!

Years ago back in Jamaica strutting down a runway was always in the mind of Jeneil but in reality at the time running track her field of choice. She does have the body of an athlete - super toned physique and legs that extends well in killer heels. It was not until Jeneil got injured while training for Jamaica Olympics, her family encouraged her to enter the Pulse Caribbean Model Search in 2005 that a long-time dream became a reality. Pulse who is responsible for a roster of supermodels including Oraine Barrnet, Jaunel McKenzie and Carla Campbell became Jeneil’s mother agency. She’s also on the roster of New York Models, her home agency. When Jeneil won the competition, its obvious Pulse decision was based on her confidence and strong looks that you rarely found on the international fashion scene. The rest is history! Jeneil Williams is now the most sought after international super model on the radar. She has grown into a savvy businesswoman with fashion on her agenda.

Survival of the Fittest

There are so many models in the arena; those who are known for a merely mesmerizing spread in a magazine and then others who have reached super stardom and can effortlessly book jobs without standing in line for casting. Competition must be fierce! “It’s very catty! Like Fashion week- a bunch of girls are going after the same job. I can be catty too but I am very strong so I know how to handle it. I always say what’s to be will be. Some people get so caught up in the industry; you don’t get a chance to look back. Years ago I wasn’t even getting any jobs and now I’m on the cover of four different magazines.” Not to mention being featured in ads for United Colors of Benetton, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and the list goes on. “So it’s good when you get to look back and say wow I really accomplished something, you see some of the other girls and they haven’t really done any of this. You have to give God thanks.” 2011 has been one of the many busy yet great years for Jeneil. She had the pleasure in doing the S/S 2011 Diet Coke campaign by Karl Lagerfield. Her outstanding editorials have appeared in Harper Bazaar, Love Magazine where she posed nude and Vogue Italia. Whenever Jeneil appears in an ad she has fashion bloggers alike praising the black beauty for fearless features like her captivated spread for Elle Magazine.

Let’s talk about LOVE

Traveling around the world doesn’t mean Jeneil has to exclude love out of her agenda. Jeneil has been in a relationship for about 2 years with her boyfriend Shayne Hunter who adores her and is very supportive of her career. The couple met through mutual friends, shares a mutual commitment of being married to their work but share an undivided love and attention for each other. From the looks of tabloids it seems quite hard to maintain a relationship were make-ups and break-ups is an everyday affair but Shayne

doesn’t have to worry about that, “there’s no diva attitude or super model tantrums in our relationship. She doesn’t act that way at home, she’s very normal.” “It’s very refreshing to see her benefit from her hard work. Personally she is very strong will person, humble and you see that reflect in her pictures.” Residing in New York City, the couple enjoys their work but always find time for each other. Whether it’s going for a morning run, vacationing overseas or hosting their close family and friends for dinner its refreshing to see real love resonating between them.

Getting Down To Business

There is rarely ever a down time for Jeneil. Between balancing her job as a super model and personal life, Jeneil is busy adding more works to her portfolio. While its not surprising for a model to venture out into other fields, Jeneil has taken the effort to maximize her full potential. She is currently working on creating an affordable fashion line for young women. Jeneil has been sketching and sewing her first collection to possibly make a debut next year. Jeneil line includes a collection of long dresses with splits that’s dark and sexy and also includes a vibrant red dress she awes over. “My new line is best described as fantasy world meets chic. Its very different and not a knock-off of what you might have seen before. My line is for those women flipping though a magazine and see a dress for $3000 but can’t afford it” says Jeneil.

On Personal Style: All Black Everything

If you ever caught Jeneil out and about she has a very unique personal style. Not too glam but just the right touch to make an on the go entrance for her castings and navigating the busy streets of New York. “Relaxed and comfortable at all times is my motto. I have no problems sporting a pair of Converse, flats or some boots with a little heel nothing too high.” To rock her edgy look, Jeneil preference of color is black, sharp shapes, low haircut and a natural face, no make-up. Stylist, Aminah Haddad worked with Jeneil during Caribbean Fashion Week loves her sense of style and encourages her to continue honing it. “Not everyone can pull-off Jeneil’s look. It has to be

effortless, which she has conquered.” Andrea Wilson, one of Jeneil’s personal hairstylist compliments her “positive attitude and big smile. She has such a unique look and an amazing complexion. She really enjoys her work and you can tell by her pictures. She brings it and the looks to life.”

In the meantime, Jeneil has major plans for her future and it’s already in the making. “10 years from now I want to be a top model like Heidi Klum, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. I want to be known and make a mark like Grace Jones; she’s one of a kind. There is no one like her or Naomi. I want to be an icon. I want to be rich. I want to see myself online, have kids, and get married.”
