Here are two interviews with Mateja from Croatian tv talk show..

1. interview-they're saying she's 26 years old, she's one of the most famous and successful models in Croatia

-saying she was very lucky to get the chance to walk so many shows naming some of the biggest designers she walked for. she also says she did hundreds of shows, so many that she lost count because when you work as a model you stop thinking about it after a while.

-she went to Paris at a tender age of 15 and then continued persuing her career in Milan, NY, Tokyo etc.

-she's talking about advantages (being still so young you get the chance to see the world, meet lots of people, expand one's horizons) and disadvantages (starting too young and still having to act mature and professional, all the persistence and strenght required while being all alone having no one next to you all this while being in a foreign city, maybe having hard time communicating in foreign language) of being a model.

- she said she felt like she put on hold thinking about her future while modeling, good point.

- she mentions a little anecdote from Georges Chakra show, she remembers a very tight dress which caused her trouble backstage as she had to change 2 outifts. it got stuck and ripped off in the middle of the changing room. She watched all the Swarovski crystals falling down all over the place. Also they gave her silver shoes to match the dress but when she returned to backstage she couldn't take them off as they got stuck probably because they were freshly painted. She was so stressed and tired she started crying. The next 4 days she was leaving a silver trail

-she put modeling a side for a bit (still she didn't quit modeling!) as she studies political science (if I got that right) and she writes a column for croatian Cosmopolitan-she adds it was one of her dream since a long time.

-and last she says she likes to drink water and eat salad, especially if those 2 come with a large portion of 'ćevapi'

2. interview (8. Kat-'Moda je okrutan posao' - 'Fashion is a cruel business')

- a tv presenter presented her as 'the queen of the runways'

Did you know what to expect when you first arrived to Paris at the age of 16?

-I didn't know anything. I didn't know even what I got myself into but you simply have to put your head together and learn everything you need to know. I started modeling out of pure curiosity, but soon I got bunch of invites from different agencies, did test shootings in Paris etc

Were you surprised by your success?

-Yeah pretty much, actually my first season was very successul and everything took off so fast, it was very exciting but also very stressful.

Can a 16 year old even be prepared for that kind of job? Can anyone actually explain to you what to expect?

-No, I don't think anyone can tell you what to expect from it because modeling is a job you have to discover for yourself and you have to find your own place in it.

Was your family supportive?

-My family was always a great support to me, since the very start. At a certain point when I felt really lost and tired, I asked my mother agency Midikenn would it be ok if my mother travels with me. All of my agencies were very supportive and my mom was traveling with me for 6 months when I was just 16. She took care of me while I was in NY, Paris and Tokyo. That actually helped me a lot and changed everything for the better and made all the difference.

So your mom was your support and safe shelter?

-Exactly. Who knows if I would continue modeling if it wasn't for her support and all the help she gave me.

Everything comes early in modeling, girls are younger and younger...

-Yes, you always compete with younger girls and time really flies in modeling and a girl should always know what she wants to do after modeling. I felt it's time for a change and that is why modeling took 2nd place now. I got lots of opportunities thanks to modeling and dare I say, I used them in the best way possible, I traveled the world, I've matured in a way I never could have otherwise if I didn't go to see the world. I worked, I've become disciplined, I was much more mature than most people my age, I still am nowadays. Not to mention I've managed to achieve a financial security and to be able to go to college now without having to worry about my age because I'm a bit older. I had a lot of positive outcomes because of modeling.

I suppose you're not depending on your parents financially as most of the people your age?

-Exactly

As the most successful croatian model what kind of advice would you give to young girls who want to become models?

-I want to say modeling is a fantastic job offering once in a lifetime opportunities. They have to take these chances the best way they can but at the same time they have to know very well who they are, keep around them only people with their same interests and try not to get lost on their way.
