Isabelle Yasmine Adjani (born June 27, 1955 in Paris' 17th arrondissement) is a César Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated French film actress. She is of German-Algerian parentage, and performs in her native French, English, and German. She has been nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Actress and was awarded the César award four times

Early life

Adjani grew up in Gennevilliers, Hauts-de-Seine to Kabyle Mohammed Adjani and a German Augusta Gusti. She was drawn to acting at a young age, playing in amateur theater by the age of twelve. As a fourteen-year-old, she appeared in her first motion picture.[citation needed]

Career

She first gained fame as a classical actress for her interpretation of Agnès, the main female role in Molière's L'École des femmes, but soon left the Comédie française she had joined in 1972 to pursue a movie career. After minor roles in several films, she received positive reviews and much public acclaim for her performance in the 1974 film La Gifle (or The Slap)[citation needed]. The following year, she was cast in her first starring role in François Truffaut's The Story of Adele H. which resulted in a nomination for the Best Actress Oscar and offers for rôles in Hollywood films.

In 1981, Adjani received the Cannes Film Festival's best actress award for the Merchant Ivory film Quartet based on the novel by Jean Rhys, and for the horror film Possession. Next year, she received her first César award for Possession, in which she portrays a frustrated woman going mad. In 1983, she won the César, for her depiction of a vengeful woman in the French blockbuster One Deadly Summer.

In 1989, she co-produced and starred in a biopic of the tragic French sculptor Camille Claudel. She received her third César and second Oscar nomination for her role in the film, which was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Following this publicity, she was chosen by People magazine as one of the '50 Most Beautiful People' in the world. Her fourth César win was for the 1994 film Queen Margot, an ensemble epic directed by Patrice Chéreau.

Personal life

Adjani has two sons: Barnabé Nuytten with Bruno Nuytten, and Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis from her six-year relationship with Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis. Gabriel-Kane was born in New York City in 1995, several months after her relationship with Day-Lewis ended.

Adjani was also engaged to French composer Jean Michel Jarre, but they broke up publicly in 2004[citation needed]. In 1987, some French media outlets incorrectly reported that she was dying of AIDS, forcing her to appear on television to deny it[citation needed].

Fashion:Sonia Rykiel (official website)

Sonia Rykiel (who was born the 25 may 1930 in Paris, France of Polish Jewish extraction) is a French fashion designer.

Sonia Rykiel was born in Paris, France in 1930. At the age of 17, she was employed to dress the window displays in a Parisian textile store. Sonia was married to the owner of a boutique which sold elegant clothing. In 1962 she just couldn't find any soft sweaters to wear when she was pregnant. So she used a supplier to her husband from Venice to design her own.

Sonia Rykiel created her first maternity dresses and tiny sweater. The sweater is her symbol and she was crowned "Queen of Knits" by the Americans in 1967. The sweater went back 7 times for alterations before she was satisfied with it. From then, she has experimented with seams inside out, took away the hem and lining, and created a range of fragrances of which '7e Sens' was the first. This first creation was called the Poor boy Sweater, and she started selling it from her husbands label "Laura". It made the cover of ELLE fashion magazine, and brought her fame.

She later became the first designer to put seams on the outside of a garment, and to print words on her sweaters. In particular, she favours long clinging sweaters or small cropped pullovers, large rolled-back cuffs and long shawls. Her colours are usually beige, grey, dark blue and charcoal.

Rykiel has written many books, including an A to Z of fashion, and a collection of children’s stories.

In 1980 she was voted one of the world's 10 most elegant women. She proved that knitwear can follow any trend. Rykiel also hit the current idea of the big soft fun fur done as a huge bubble of colour, in her case baby pink, purple knitted fox or teal-blue Mongolian lamb. During Paris Fashion Week in October 2003, Sonia Rykiel showed her own collection for next spring. There were also gorgeous ruffled dresses in vintage floral and polka dot prints and smart hounds tooth coats.

During Paris Fashion Week in October 2004, Sonia Rykiel showed her collection for next spring. There were smiling faces at her show seeing models in flower-child knit dresses and big 1970s Paddington Bear hats.

Sonia and her daughter Nathalie have decided to bring Paris to New York. In February 2005 Henri Bendel launched an in-store shop for the Sonia Rykel Woman line. It will almost certainly be as successful as in France. There are three Sonia Rykiel locations in the U.S. and they are in New York , Boston and Guam.

French babe: Zazie

Zazie (born Isabelle de Truchis de Varennes on 18 April 1964 in Boulogne-Billancourt) is a French singer and songwriter. She also co-produces her own albums with other producers.

Zazie's father was an architect and her mother, a music teacher.

She was model for 10 years for yves saint laurent, karl largarfeld, givenchy... and she stoped to make music

Her songs range from upbeat rock or pop songs to languid down tempo tunes.

Zazie debuted in 1992 with the album Je Tu Ils and the single "Sucré salé".

In 1995, she released her sophomore album Zen, which was co-written and co-produced with Vincent-Marie Bouvot. The album produced the singles "Zen" and "Homme Sweet Homme". Her 1996 single "Un point c'est toi" from the same album was discussed on Canada's MuchMusic TV program Too Much 4 Much due to its controversial content. Ultimately, the discussion panel deemed the video okay for audiences. In the video, a group of four smitten women, including Zazie, follow a pair of men down to a lake. There, the two men strip off their clothes and swim in the water. Zazie fantasizes about undressing one of the men and kissing him. To shock of the women, however, the two men kiss each other.

In 1997, Pascal Obispo and Zazie released the single "Les Meilleurs Ennemis".

Her 1998 album Made in Love was co-produced by Ali Staton, Pierre Jaconelli, and herself. The album photos were taken by fashion designer Jean-Baptiste Mondino. The songs "Ça Fait Mal Et Ça Fait Rien", "Tous des anges", and "Tout Le Monde" were released as singles. This album was followed by a live album, Made in Live, the next year. In 1999 she also wrote a song for Jane Birkin.

In 2001, Zazie teamed up with Axel Bauer on the single "À Ma Place". It was her most successful single in France, reaching number four on the French charts.

Zazie once again addressed gay content on her 2002 single "Adam et Yves" from her 2001 album La Zizanie. This album was produced solely by Pierre Jaconelli. Other singles included "Rue de la paix" and "Danse avec les loops". In 2003, she released another live album, Ze Live.

Her 2004 album Rodéo was co-produced with Jean-Pierre Pilot and Philippe Paradis. The video for the single "Excuse-Moi" features Zazie playing the role of an Indian woman who leaves her cheating husband. She followed this album up with a live album, Rodéo Tour in 2006.

In february 2007, was released her sixth album "Totem". Just like her previous album, it is co-produced with Jean-Pierre Pilot and Philippe Paradis. The "Totem Tour" starts June 1st.
