Reporter:  As the Swimsuit edition evolved, did you lose readers?

MJ:  Definitely, but we....didn't care.  We thought that the right reader would come along with us and the wrong ones we didn't want.

That pretty much sums it up.  F everyone that liked the swimsuit issue for what made it great in the first place.

Have a feeling the current idea of "legends" is much different than mine.  Christie Brinkley, Kate Upton and Molly Sims, sure.   Martha Stewart and Maye Musk not so much.  And I get Winnie Harlow has been an incredibly successful model, but one issue of SI does not an SI legend make.

The covers have been on their website for a while now and no one cares.   It's so depressing.

In the video with the article they show that Duckie is back.  Does anyone know who the brunette they show walking at :07 in the video is?  I'm just drawing a blank.

For its 2023 issue, the SI Swimsuit team traveled to Puerto Rico with rookies Jennifer Atilémile, Ellie Thumann and a few familiar faces, including Lorena Durán, Jasmine Sanders, Marquita Pring, Mady Dewey and Georgina Burke. Here are five of our favorite beaches in Puerto Rico that absolutely took our breath away.

It only took 9+ years. But a good choice.

She looks like someone who could've been in the issue 10 years ago.  Imagine that.  I'm thinking Jennifer Atilemile will be a rookie also.

I'm guessing she shot in Dominica with Nicole Williams and someone named Sixtine Rouyre. Should it even be mentioned Mady Dewey won the casting thing?

Sadness should not be my main emotion on reveal day.

I'm thinking there's only Haley and Hunter left to officially reveal.

It's amusing/depressing that a whole location shoot just happened and no one cares enough to mention it on here.

I assume she hasn't actually shot yet or they'd use a picture.  In a comment she said it all happened within the last two weeks.  Guess she won Teen USA the same year Haley Kalil competed.  If only she was an actual model.

And guess I'm right about Leyna.  Surprise, surprise. Not.

I see they've emptied out their instagram page at this point.  I notice it now say "Opening Eyes • Speaking Truths • Changing Minds" .  Cause that what people want in a swimsuit issue. Not supermodels in amazing places taking iconic photos. 

I'm going to guess Leyna has a cover.  Tyra said history will be made.  She's attractive enough.  And I'm sure they think she'll open eyes and change minds.  Megan Thee Stallion probably has to have one.  I assume the Post story didn't come out of nowhere.  

I miss being excited about a new issue.  But I'm old school.

It’s inevitably Camille. I’m pretty sure Hyunjoo and Lorena would’ve been in US while they were shooting.

Every swimsuit issue, "meticulously restored" in digital format. MIGHT be worthwhile for a collector. I would hope that the reproductions would be better than the middling-at-best scans they have on the online SI archives. Not sure why I'd want the ads...

 

However, I hope that landing page isn't a foretaste of the quality. It looks like Geocities circa 1997. If it wasn't directly from the SI Swimsuit Instagram page, I would assume it was some kind of scam.

I might consider it.  The price isn't terrible.  And it will bring me happy thoughts about the glory years.  Of the 20 girls this year it's hard to imagine that more than a dozen of them would've been in the issue even as recently as the 50th anniversary issue.  There have always been models in the issue that I haven't gotten, but this year has just broken it for me.  At least there's Brooks and Kelsey coming up.  They seem to be actual working models.  Such a crazy idea for SI.

Katrina Scott is next.  We used to get supermodels. Now they’re not even models.

So depressing that Bojana is shooting some sort of Venus/SI swimwear thing but not actually shooting for SI. Ugh.

I'm wondering why Tanaye was with Camille at a beachside shoot on Wednesday.  Not done shooting yet?  Seems unlikely to be a non-SI project, but who knows.
