T.J. English's book about set in the 1950s to the 80s in Miami and New York had multiple studio bidders.

After a massive bidding war, Paramount and Appian Way have won the film rights to T.J. English's upcoming Cuban mob crime book The Corporation for seven figures. Benicio Del Toro is attached to star.

David Matthews, a staff writer on Vinyl, will adapt. Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are producing along with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company.

A bidding war broke out over the book earlier this week, with multiple studios -- and some top talent attachments -- interested.

English's book is based on the real life saga of the Cuban mob from the 1950s to the 80s in Miami and New York. It's slated for publication in 2017 via HarperCollins' William Morrow.

The story centers on Jose Miguel Battle Sr. (Del Toro), the leader of the powerful Cuban mafia "The Corporation. Born in Havana, Battle and other Cubans were trained by the CIA to fight in the Bay of Pigs invasion, where Battle was captured and serve nearly two years in a Cuban prison. When he was released, he went back to the U.S. and began building a crime empire that dabbled in gambling, drug trafficking and murder. He rose to become one of the most powerful crime bosses in America, and was

  2. Page Six on the new rumor on Leo and Chelsey Weimar, a source denies that Leo is dating her.

Leo takes break from saving the world to cozy up to new model

    Quote

Now that Oscar season’s ended, Leonardo DiCaprio may be back to collecting models rather than awards.

Spies said the star’s dating Victoria’s Secret Pink model Chelsey Weimar. She and Leo were seen leaving Nobu Malibu together and she posted Instagram shots that eagle-eyed spies say are from Leo’s homes in LA.

But a source whined of Leo’s alleged new love, “It’s not true. He isn’t spending time with anyone. Most of his time lately has been in places like Indonesia, trying to help save the ecosystem.”

Less than an hour into the private preview, a crowd filled the aisle between Galerie Perrotin and Sprüth Magers thanks to an A-list celebrity sighting. Just three weeks after his Oscar win, Leonardo DiCaprio, who was accompanied by an entourage that included Wendi Deng, was caught eyeing a $400,000 George Condo painting over at Sprüth Magers. “We have a few people lined up," a gallery representative later told artnet News, assuring us that it would be sold by the end of the fair.

  4. Tina Fey Talks Leonardo DiCaprio, Caitlyn Jenner And “Bulls**t” Oscars On ‘Howard Stern’ (AUDIO)

    Quote

Tina Fey opened up on Tuesday’s “Howard Stern Show” about her experience attending Sunday night’s “bulls**t” Oscars. During the interview, the actress reveals her thoughts on Leonardo DiCaprio sleeping with tons of women, trying “to have a moment” with Caitlyn Jenner at an after-party, and more. Listen to audio below!

Fey told Stern on his radio show that she wasn’t particularly impressed with being at the Academy Awards, adding, “I’m so glad I live in [New York City], because halfway through, I was like, ‘This is some real Hollywood bulls**t.'” The actress noted that she was turned off by Hollywood elites preaching from the stage and “telling me what to do.” Fey continued, “People yelling at me about rape and corporate greed… [and] climate change. And I was like, ‘Guys, pick a lane. We’re gonna fix everything tonight? Why are you yelling at me about corporate greed? You’re all so rich.'”

Stern then went on to ask Fey her thoughts on DiCaprio using his Best Actor acceptance speech to warn about the dangers of climate change. “I’m always psyched when someone is articulate about those things, because let’s face it, actors are very stupid,” she responded. “But he’s so smart and his speech was so cogent.” But the radio host noted that he has trouble separating “the Leo on the party boat who f***s tons of girls” and the “socially conscious guy.”

“It doesn’t affect the green footprint, no matter how many women you f***,” Fey joked. “Is it misogynistic to sleep with a bunch of women who want to sleep with you? No… I don’t think it’s misogynistic. I think everybody there is up for it.” The former “SNL” star did admit, however, that DiCaprio’s lifestyle won’t be so “cute” when “he’s 50 and [the girls are] still 18.”

Fey then described being at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, revealing that her best celebrity sighting was Caitlyn Jenner. “I was trying so hard to have a moment with her,” Fey said. “I was trying to make eye contact… And she was not having me.” The actress added, “You could tell she was like, ‘I am the biggest deal in here’… She looked fantastic!” And when Stern pointed out that “Bruce Jenner” was one of the greatest Olympic athletes of all time, Fey joked, “I don’t even know who that is. We’re not allowed to remember that.” Listen to highlights below from Fey’s “Howard Stern Show” interview!

  5. How Leonardo DiCaprio Celebrated His First Oscar Win

    Quote
Inside Vanity Fair's Oscar party, Leo is the king of the world.

Two and half hours after he finally won his first Oscar, Leonardo DiCaprio entered the Vanity Fair Oscar party looking every inch as happy as you might expect. DiCaprio walked into the room with his mom, her boyfriend, his old friend Tobey Maguire, and Maguire’s wife, Jen Meyers. The small group was immediately surrounded by well-wishers and, unlike some winners who like to keep their statues close, DiCaprio let partygoers have their turn holding his freshly-won Oscar.

DiCaprio only made it to the first banquette before his corner of the room because the only corner of the room. Everyone from comedian Rebel Wilson to actor Bob Balaban to Puff Daddy crowded in to pay their respects. DiCaprio looked “deliriously happy” according to one onlooker and though attendees of the Vanity Fair Oscar party are used to playing it cool, this long-awaited win brought out the uncool in everyone. Well-dressed partygoers circled the grinning DiCaprio snapping photos as Netflix’s Ted Sarandos came in to pay his respects.

When asked if she was proud, DiCaprio’s mom Irmelin Indenbirken gushed, “I am! Thank you so much!” As Leo sipped a drink and greeted more well-wishers, Indenbirken made as much of the moment as her son proudly posing for photos with his Oscar. And when host Chris Rock came over to congratulate Leo, it was Indenbirken who took the photo of the host with the newly-minted Oscar winner. Rock joked that he liked DiCaprio’s extra security and would be sticking close. The pair proceeded to hold court as the entire focus of the room shifted to spin around a triumphant Leo.

Ben Affleck was greeted with hugs from Rock and a kiss on the cheek from Leo. The pair held hands and were deep in conversation as Tobey Maguire says an early upset in the best supporting actor category had him nervous for DiCaprio. Experts were so certain both Sylvester Stallone and DiCaprio would win. When Stallone lost to Mark Rylance, Maguire says, he got anxious for his friend.

DiCaprio then left the party to continue his whirlwind celebration. But before he ducked out the door, Elton John grabbed from for one last photo. DiCaprio, in a daze, forgot to include his Oscar in the frame. “Hold that f—er up!” John ordered. DiCaprio happily did as instructed, but then departed. Lady Gaga threw her hands up in the air shouting “they are playing Bowie everything is going to be O.K.” as balance returned to the room.

  7. This oscar voter wasn't a fan of The Revenant but is still voting for Leo and Lubezki.

Brutally Honest Oscar Ballot No. 2:

    Quote

    Best Picture:

I loved Birdman and I couldn’t wait for [Alejandro G. Inarritu’s next film] The Revenant, but I’m not a fan. I liked Leo [DiCaprio] and the cinematography better than I liked the movie, which I just felt was over the top — I don’t believe for one minute that someone in that condition could go over a waterfall in sub-zero conditions and survive. I’m also really bored with the publicity about how hard it was to make it — why the f--- didn’t you get a better location manager then? I watched The Big Short twice because I had a hard time figuring out what was happening, and I’m nobody’s fool; I’ve decided that I actually liked it, but I don’t really think it’s a best picture for me.

I loved Bridge of Spies — it’s a wonderful kind of fifties movies, predictable but well done — but it’s not really a breakthrough in any sense. I was not a fan of Brooklyn — I hear the book was quite good, but I was bored to tears by the movie; this immigrant girl comes and everything wonderful happens to her and so what? The Martian was entertaining enough, and I loved Matt Damon, but it was basically Cast Away on Mars, and you knew where it was heading from the very start. I like Spotlight, I respect Spotlight, but I don’t think Spotlight benefits from its frequent comparisons to All the President’s Men; I wish they had spent less time on investigative reporting and more time on the issue of sex abuse, which needs a spotlight much more. I thought The Room [sic] was amazing — it’s just two people in a room for the first half, but you’re riveted, and then you get out of the room and you’re even more riveted, if you can believe it! The performances were that amazing. When I saw it I thought it might be my favorite of the year. But Mad Max: [Fury Road] is one of the most extraordinary films I’ve ever seen — it’s so imaginative that it just takes my breath away. This is not just an action movie, although it has great battle sequences; it makes comments on women and it’s so deep and has so many layers.

My vote: (1) Mad Max: Fury Road; (2) Room; (3) The Big Short; (4) The Martian; (5) Spotlight

    Best Actor:

I haven't seen Trumbo [so I won't be voting for Bryan Cranston]. [MichaelFassbender wasn't that memorable to me [in Steve Jobs] — I read that book [Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs] and I didn't want it to ever end, but I couldn't say that about the movie. Eddie Redmayne wasn't nearly what he was in the last one [The Theory of Everything, for which he won last year's best actor Oscar]. Matt Damon [in The Martian] pulled off the person-all-alone thing very well. And, while I didn't love The Revenant, I will admit that Leo did a hell of a job on that. Those two were my favorite.

My vote: Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant)

    Best Cinematography:

As I said, I didn't see The Hateful Eight, so we'll have to eliminate that. I can see why Sicario is here — it's gritty. But the cinematography in The Revenant is quite amazing, how they captured nature.

    My vote: The Revenant
