Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha (born 17 November 1986 in Praia, Cape Verde), better known as Nani, is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a winger. He currently plays for Manchester United.

    Club career

Early career: Nani was born in Cape Verde, but migrated with his family to Portugal at an early age. He grew up in the Amadora district of Lisbon and started his career in junior football at Real de Massamá before joining the youth setup at Sporting. Manuel Fernandes has been a friend of Nani's since childhood and the pair used to kick a ball about together on the streets of Lisbon.

Sporting: Nani made his debut for the Sporting first team in the 2005-06 season, in which he made 32 appearances and scored five goals. In the 2006-07 season, he was again a regular, making 29 appearances for the first team and scoring five goals. He also played three games in the Portuguese Cup, which Sporting won, as well as six Champions League matches, scoring one goal.

Manchester United: In May 2007, Sporting and Manchester United agreed on an undisclosed fee for Nani to sign for the Manchester club. The fee is believed to be in the region of £14m, the alleged value of the release clause in Nani's contract. Tottenham Hotspur were also reported to have made a bid for the player.[1] Nani passed his medical at United's Carrington training ground on 6 June 2007,[2] before being confirmed as a Manchester United player on 2 July. It was announced that Nani had signed a five-year contract with the club.[3]

On 9 July, Nani was revealed to the press along with fellow newcomer Owen Hargreaves.[4] He was handed the number 17 shirt for the 2007-08 season, the shirt previously worn by Henrik Larsson during his short spell at the club.

    International career

Nani made his first appearance for Portugal on 1 September 2006, scoring on his début in a friendly against Denmark.[5]

Nani was the youngest member of the Portugal team at the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship, and was called up to the Portugal team again for the 2007 UEFA U-21 Championship.

  2. I think people will remember her for long time because she got charisma. I think she did her best on the tennis quart and she did a lot to reach her goal. I watched a program about her and as young girl she left her mum in russia to travel with her dad to usa to be better to play tennis. She was often isolated by the other students and they talked behind her back. Just that can make a person with talent give ut, but she didnt.

Fair enough, but she still could have achieved much more if she hadn't focused on ads, commercials and being a celebrity. To me, she's just wasted her talent. Look what Sharapova does. A Russian beauty as well, but with enough determination to work hard in order to win tournaments.

I couldn't agree more. She had the potential but she chose fame. Sharapova can actually live with both, yes she's also very popular but she's focusing more on her career.

No, because she broke her leg and focusing on ads, commercials and being a celebrity is not wasting a talent because its needed talent to do that too. Sharapova is a beauty, but boring compared to Anna K.

Episode 8: Runway Race To The Finish

    Original Airing: July 19, 2006

In the first part of the season finale, the girls were to shoot a commercial for CoverGirl. Alanna did the best and wooed the judges at evaluation, while Sisi, who was losing her consistency, was sent home, as she was not on top of her game at a crucial part of the competition. In the second part, the final two girls were to shoot a photo for the cover of Fashion Magazine, and the winner's photo would grace the cover.

For their final challenge, the girls were to be in a real runway show. Guest judge and creative director for America's Next Top Model, Jay Manuel, was there again to watch the girls strut. He was amazed by Andrea's complete transformation from a shy girl to a confident girl. Alanna also exuded confidence after a snafu with her dress, which had a train, but was put on backwards; she simply held it in her hands, and walked the runway. In the end, the judges just couldn't decide on a winner. A silent vote was cast. As the final two came back into the judging room, Tricia told them that the judges had tears, arguments, and more tears. The room was silent until the TV screen revealed that Andrea is Canada's Next Top Model.

  5. I like her look :)

She look cute & charming at most of the pictures. Though she can do the fierce & tough girl look as well. I think that she is a versatile model. Its like her personality shines through the pictures
