  1. Juan's goal did not Mata.

    lol

Did Walcott try to con the ref halfway thru the lead up to his goal? Can't say I saw any contact.

I think he just slipped. When players try to con the refs, they usually lay on the pitch for a good chunk. Theo's recovery was immediate, and to me that was the goal of the day.

    Terry slips again. LOL.

What's with all these crazy scoring games this season? :chicken:

Yeah, the EPL derbies got out of hand. ManU-Arsenal, Spurs-City, Spurs-Liverpool, ManU-City, and now Chelsea-Arsenal. Last season these games were 3 goals max. Now it's like watching Barcelona play Almeria. Crazy goalscoring, and bar yesterdays game, all of them pretty onesided.

  2. It was a question in general ;) So what are yours? <--- everyone who reads this haha

Mine are: Real Madrid, Olympique Lyon and Arsenal.

As Ed told, my favorite teams are Juventus, Arsenal, followed by Valencia, and Lyon to an extent. What's your favorite team in Netherlands BTW? Ajax? If so it must be a little weird to have 3 of your fave teams in the same group. :D

  3. Vintage 50's football today. Two "supposed" derbies ended 1:5 & 8:2.

For Arsenal, this game can be a good wake-up call. Forget winning, or a draw... we failed to lose with dignity. :( I'm just glad that this happened this soon. We're crap since the beginning of the season, with 3 losses in PL, and getting horribly outplayed by Udinese, even though we got through, in UCL.

Meanwhile Cesc already won 2 trophies in 2 games w/ Barça. On the other hand Nasri assisted City's first two. I guess we can't really blame those guys afterall. :(

  4. Or he could just promote another 16 year old :p Is Ryo Miyaichi ready to play yet?

A couple of days ago a Manyoo fan friend of mine told me that they would crush us this week, now that we lost all these players. I told him that our U-8 team would be enough to beat their crappy squad. :p

But on a serious note, Ryo may be ready to play in junk time against QPR, but we (as fans) can't trust a 16 year old in crucial games.

I hear some Arsenal fans want Wenger out. Meanwhile others support their manager, saying "In Arsene We Trust" and citing how since Arsene's arrival they have won some important trophies and managed to always play in the Premier League every season. The club seems to be in transition and no one else can take the place of Wenger.

    "In Arsene We Trust"

just to make clear which side I'm at

Seriously though our transfer policy was pure crap. We should have had sold Cesc and Nasri much earlier, and find the replacements by now. We risked getting eliminated from Champions for no reason, and had the worst start of 40+ years (no goals in first two games).

    --

Nasri, Mata, Falcao, Eto'o, and Forlan transfers are done. Eto'o became the highest paid player on the planet. I think his absence is a big loss for european football though. :( And Mata will play Valencia in UCL. :(

    --

UCL draw was nice. Group A is promising to be the best group stage of recent memory. All 4 teams have a shot, none of them are locks. A true group of death. Reminds of awesome second group stages of 2001 & 2002.

Group G gets unnecessary hate. They have 3 of the lest 4 UEFA Cup/EuropaLeague winners. IMO Shakhtar and Porto are worthy of second round either way. It was predictable that the group that drew M.City was going to be the toughest, and the one drawing Porto was going to be meh. So I'm not surprised that much.

Barca - Milan will provide the best matchup, but neither won't have a hard time to get to the next round.

As usual Manure got the easiest draw. New season same old United. <_<

  5. I don't know, do you really think Kaka at 29 and with limited abilities due to a chronic injury can really adapt to the pace of the English game? Not to mention that he would command a very high salary. Both of which makes a move to the Emirates quite unlikely.

Hazard is not a Frenchman, he's a Belgian. ;) And Lille are rumored to want 25-30 million euros (35-43 million dollars) for him. IIRC, the highest transfer fee Arsene has paid in the last decade was £ 17 million (28 million dollars) for José Antonio Reyes. So he would have to break his own transfer record by a considerable amount to afford Hazard.

Well Kaka is my ultimate favorite player to whom I've been introduced in the 00s, so I'm not claiming I'm unbiased. But I believe if he gets more playing time, he'll recover quite a bit. His speed won't be there, but his technical abilities should be.

I know for Real it's hard to let go of a player you've payed this much. Plus he is not a trouble maker, so they are not in a hurry to get rid of him, but I'd guess they're realizing that his value will only go down as time passes. I'm certain they can find a middle way if they want to work things out (which they probably won't, and don't).

Sorry for my mistake :) Though I have a french friend whose lastname is Hazard, so that must've gotten me confused. Since he is a Belgian, maybe you can fill me in about him. Some media here heir him as the new-coming of Zidane. I get a feeling that's a bit over the top, yet that he can be a great addition for us.

And one last think: Did anyone notice Meireles pointing his middle-finger at somebody after the 2nd goal. Suarez immediately took his hand down, so the refs won't see it, but the camera was zoomed at them! :ninja:

  6. Did you guys watch her on Late Night with Conan O'Brien? Her appearance was so pleasant (as usual), but this time she had an extra surprise. . . a rap performance dissing paparazzies, and I lost myself while listening to it.

So funny, and so damn cute  :

  7. How sweet! Just got our ass kicked. Congratulations Ed & TheEnigma!! I hope Udinese does the same to us to! We really need to hit the rock bottom before jumping back to the top. :(

  8. ^ Mata to Chelsea

I know Kaka' is not the same, but maybe more play time is exactly what he needs. It's not like he is out of shape or anything. He has great body of work, and even if his injury will never heal 100%, he may make a decent comeback if given the opportunity.

I have a feeling that Wenger will be willing to pay Hazard, as he has to buy someone, and he has a soft spot for french players. Another option is Lazio's argentinian Mauro Zarate. I used to really like him for a couple of years, but last season he was oddly ineffective. So his name doesn't get me that psyched at all.

  9. Yay someone to complain to about our awesomeness! :bounce:

Count me in the Suarez bandwagon Ed. Dude is awesome. :bounce:

I'm a big fan of Arshavin but not surprised to hear rumours of his exit. With the exception of the Champions League first leg game against Barcelona, where he appeared to be briefly possessed by the spirit of Nigel De Jong, he came nowhere near to replicating the performances of the previous year and indeed, spent most of last season looking decidedly overweight.

Always thought Mikel Arteta would be a ready made replacment for Fabregas when the inevitable transfer to Barca eventually happened. A class player when fit but much like Van Persie, his reputation as an injury prone player seems to precede him at this point.

So how are Juve shaping up this year? I'm totally out of touch with the Italian game these days. :(

Last thing Everton would need at this point is to lose Arteta! :ninja:

I'm not ready to lose faith in Arsenal just yet, but Arsene will have to bring someone in to fill the huge creative hole the departure of Cesc and the impending departure of Nasri have created.

They combined for 13 goals and 15 assists from midfield last season, just in the league. Unless they can bring someone in to pick up the slack, they will struggle to score. We've already seen that vs. Newcastle and Udinese.

I like Arteta, but I don't think he is the new blood that we need. As good as he is (and I really like him), I wouldn't start him over Wilshere. I'm more concerned about our wingers. I think we will try to get Eden Hazard. Haven't watched that much of him, but I believe he will be doing a decent job. We like to get Mata, but he seem a bit pricey.

The player I would like to get the most, and I don't know why this doesn't come up as an idea by the others, is Kaka'. He has lost his speed, and is definitely not the one he used to be. But he plays football straight, and his passing ability can come in handy with our system. Plus he is definitely unhappy in Madrid (at least because he isn't a starter), and Madrid kinda wants to release him too. I doubt he'll go back to Milan (especially after Shevchenko example), as he'll only damage his legacy there, and he definitely won't join Inter. That makes EPL the likeliest destination, and when City tried him few years ago, he had declared that if he comes to England, he'd like to play for Arsenal, or Manyoo. It can be a win-win-win situation, but if I know Wenger, he won't even think of getting a 29 year old.

M* - Currently Italian league has no heavy-weight teams, to match up with Barça, Real, Chelsea, or Man.U. But there is competition, like never before. This year Juve looks like finally will be back in the title race. We've added some new blood, with Pirlo and Vucinic being the most important ones, plus last year we struggled a lot with injuries, so this year hopefully we'll get back on track. Juve is also interested in Villareal's Rossi, but seems like it's not going to happen.

Inter is likely to lose Etoo to Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala (Roberto Carlos plays for them too). Rumor has it that Porto's Colombian striker Falcao is about to join Atletico Madrid, so I think that means Forlan will be Etoo's replacement.

At least there is a league where I have title hopes. :fun:

  10. Hey there people

Cesc deal finally went through. And Nasri is likely to leave. In a local news portal I had read that Wenger had said "If we can't keep them, we're not a great team." And sadly it's true to a degree. We lost/are losing two of our best players, and especially Cesc will be hard to replace. But more importantly we've lost prestige.

Against Udinese we were lucky to not concede any goals. They were better from start to end.

Plus there are rumors in Turkey that Arshavin is really likely to join Eboue in Galatasaray as soon as Arsenal buys some other player. I was always pro of Wengers find talents and develope them strategy, but this is getting ridiculous. If we can't keep our players, it's time to spend the money we get.

On a positive note: At least Juventus looked pretty good against Inter. :)

  11. Hey there guys  Missed me?

To be honest I missed this place a little.

Rather a quite off-season so far. I was expecting bigger moves. But I guess the big waves will come towards the end.

Pool signed Roma's Keeper Doni, and Roma has targeted Espanyol's Kameni as a replacement. I like the moves Roma is making. They're trying to create a mini-Barcelona (though that's quite a mission impossible, i'm sure they'll be fun to watch.)

I also like the moves of my beloved Juve, but I don't like Aguerro playing great in Copa America. He was almost a lock to come to Juve, but this will raise his price, and Chelsea will be there to spoil our transfer. :anger:

Manyoo signing Young is also one of the better moves of the season.

Bayern fans booed Neuer in a training. WTF???

And boy, what a huge disappointment Neymar is. Lol at Santos wanting 45 mil for him. Loved it when Perez said "this kid is not even worth 15 mil."

P.S.: Cesc/Barcelona rumors have become ubber-boring. What's this the 4th straight year??

I don't get it - how on earth did River Plate manage to get themselves relegated from the Argentine Primera Division (for the first time in their 110-year history, no less) off the back of finishing 4th in the Apertura and 9th in the Clausura?

That was a shocker for me, too. The funny thing is in Argentina they take a look at the overall record in the last 3 years. The funnier thing is, this rule was put in place to protect the bigger clubs. It's even more shocking that they were having bad seasons for 3 consecutive years. When I heard that River Plate was relegated I was like "La puta que te pario. . .", but I'm pretty sure they'll get back pretty soon.

  12. Damn you "double post". . .

. . . OK, Just to make it a worthy post:

Michael* I see you struggling with your siggy for quite some time now, so I'm taking over.

  13. A simple solution to Barons case can be counting one of his week scores twice. His final week score (at the end of the league) probably will cause the least confusion, so it might be fair to just add his score as extra points to his overall score. Or he can pick his own week, and let us now previously.

But as many said, resetting is another option, and I'm honestly fine with it. I hope Ed didn't take me whining after being the leader of the first week seriously. That's my everyday mood. :D

  14. ^ Juventus :cry2:

And Sevilla had a really disappointing loss at home against Braga. Besides them, IDK. PSV, and Porto were usually there.

  15. NBA

IMO adding Shaq definitely helps the C's. People forget that Shaq was the reigning All-Star game MVP before joining the Cavs. Sure his production/role won't be as big as it once was, but it gives them a great low-post threat. If Sheed comes back, they still have 1 more bullet to shoot IMO. Miami and Orlando are the frontrunners though. Can't believe what a great job Miami did filling the roster spots. Miller, House, Big Z are all solid. And they'll have a superstar on the court for the whole game everytime (besides blowouts). Playoffs is different though. Magic, and Boston can cause them big time trouble. In fact if Vince has an injury free season, I'd put them a step ahead of Miami.

Lakers on the other hand addressed their weaknesses with on-point transfers. Steve Blake is an improvement over Fish, and Matt Barnes gives them more defensive versatility. BTW do people remember what happened the last time Magic played the Lakers?

    Epic win by Kobe @2:15.

And you know when Barnes was sold out to join the Lakers. He told that it was when Kobe texted to him this line:

"Anybody mad enough to mess with me, is mad enough to play with me"

  17. Difference = ^ and it's just Premier League fixtures that count so beware!

Sorry to rob you eNe, maybe we'll see if you're still leading by the end of the season

Meh, don't worry about me. Sorry you gave up the 2nd place though.

BTW, no luck on joining the H2H league.

    It says:

This league is not accepting any new entries.

Are all you guys in there already?

  18. Anyway, eNe and Baron you should both join the head to head league as well! I might reset the leagues to start at Week 2 to make it fair for the new comer (sorry eNe :p)

    WAT??!!!!!

The first week of my fantasy career, and I'm already getting robbed.

I might as well pull a Zinedine Zidane move, and retire at the top of my career. :persuazn:

All kidding aside, feel free to reset. Welcome aboard Baron.

And seriously, what's the difference between the normal and H2H leagues? And also, is it strictly a premier league tournament, or are FA, Carling, and Micky Mouse cups counted as well? :idk:

  19. The husband of the blonde dies in a tragic car accident.

At the funeral the blonde is crying out loud, and barely standing on her feet. Words can't express how upset she is. Her friends feel sorry for her, and try to ease her pain by trying to tell her that she shouldn't be so sad:

Oh sweetie, stop it already. Yes, we all feel sorry. But you are young. You are so beautiful. You will find someone better by tomorrow.

To which our broken-heart blonde replies with tears:

Yes I know I'll find someone by tomorrow. But what am I going to do tonight? :cry2:

  20. The Spainards have been surprisingly boring so far.

    fixed.

Seriously though, if one team has dissapointed me so far, that has to be Spain (OK, I exaggerate). I followed all of their games in Euro 08', almost all in qualifing groups, and most of their friendlies. They were awesome, and were one the 3 teams I was happy with getting the trophy. Now, they're playing like wussies (pardon my french). In the group stages they had a total of 4 goals. Thats what I'd expect them to average (or at least do against Honduras). In the elemination rounds they've had a perfect streak of 1:0 victories. Thats really sad for them. They've come this far with their solid defense, and up till the game against Germany, Villa had scored, or assisted all of their goals. Hell, Sergio Busquets is not even entering the opponents half (I'm not trying to knock him, thats probably his assignment (which makes it even sadder)).

The Dutch, you (and most people) claim to be boring, have scored 5 more goals than Spain. Almost twice in other words. I don't know why they tend to self-destruct so much on final minutes, but at least they do so after gaining comfortable leads.

Besides Robbens selfishness, and vPersies inept display as a scorer, there's nothing to hate on them. I can't even believe it myself, but I am actually rooting for Netherlands. To me they, along with Brasil, have been the best teams of the tournament. And that's coming from a guy, who was hating both teams before the tournament started.

P.S.: I now I tend to come a little over-the-top, when sharing my opinions, but hopefully you don't take anything I said personal. Just trying to add to conversation, really. :ninja:

    Cheers Mike.

  21. NBA

    Oh my!!!! What happened?!! :| :| :| :|

Miami > Everywhere Else For every Reason Known To Man

Not from a basketball point of view, especially not for LeBron.

Quoting an NBA analyst, Bill Simmons: "LeBron had a chance to go to Chicago *RINGS*, stay in Cleveland *Loyalty*, or play at MSG *Immortality*. Can't believe he chose HELP!!!"

They (Bron & Wade) will kill each others overall effectiveness, and won't have much of a shot to win an MVP award unless they have a super regular season record (which they won't). Plus it takes much more to win a title. If they wanted to join forces, they should have had done this in Chicago, where they already had a supporting cast ready to win big, not Miami. Come to think about it,

I hope D-Wade signs with Chicago.

    :ninja: That would be awesome.
