  1. Bar Refaeli: IDF’s new ‘enlistment officer’ In response to criticism surrounding her new position with Fox fashion chain, Bar Refaeli to promote enlistment into army, visit injured soldiers Reuven Weiss Published: 05.08.08, 08:13 / Israel Culture The perfect equation has been found allowing model Bar Refaeli to represent the Fox fashion chain without receiving criticism for evading army service. This week, it was brought to light that Bar Refaeli will be a presenter for the Fox company. Yedioth Aharonoth revealed that this caused an uproar amongst members of The Israeli Forum for the Promotion of Equal Share in the Burden who believe that every Israeli of age should serve in the IDF. The forum consists of parents of soldiers and of bereaved parents. On Monday, forum representatives arrived at a meeting with Fox CEO and part-owner Harel Weisel. They expressed rage regarding the fact that Refaeli evaded serving in the army. Forum representatives told Weisel that “it is unacceptable that a person who evaded army service and who justifies her choice will turn into a symbol and an example.” They warned Weisel that if the company hires Refaeli, they will call for a consumer boycott on the chain. As a result of this initiative, the people of Fox presented a compromise in which Refaeli will represent the company and will simultaneously visit injured IDF soldiers hospitalized at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer every time she arrives in Israel. In addition, she will encourage soldiers to serve in the army. The way in which her “service” will be carried out has not yet been determined. The conditions were brought forth to Refaeli and she agreed to comply and to fulfill her duty voluntarily. The forum’s strategic adviser, Itay Ben Horin said, “Fox and Refaeli made the right decision and we praise them for it.” http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3540565,00.html

  11. | Wed., May 07, 2008 Iyyar 2, 5768 Bar Rafaeli, Fox fashion chain join war on draft dodgers By Adi Dovrat The fashion label Fox announced yesterday it would be collaborating with the Israeli Forum for the Promotion of Equal Share in the Burden, an anti-draft-dodging group. Fox made the announcement after meeting with representatives of the group, which threatened to lead a consumer boycott of the company because it employs models Bar Rafaeli and Michael Lewis, who did not serve in the army. Rafaeli also announced she would be collaborating with the forum. "We welcome the move of Bar Rafaeli and Fox following the meeting with the association. The business sector also understands that it simply does not pay to dodge the draft," the forum's strategic consultant, Itai Ben-Horin told Haaretz. Fox told the press yesterday that it encourages enlistment into the Israel Defense Forces and opposes draft-dodging. All its directors and owners had served, Fox also said. Bar Rafaeli said, "Following the meeting I suggested that from now I will collaborate with the forum on all my visits to Israel." http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/981380.html
  12. Group wants model Refaeli to serve Israel Published: May 6, 2008 at 9:52 PM JERUSALEM, May 6 (UPI) -- A group promoting military or public service by all Israelis wants the Fox fashion chain to demand its spokeswoman, Bar Refaeli, join up. Ynetnews.com said Israeli Forum for the Promotion of Equal Share in the Burden is urging Fox to incorporate joining the army or volunteering in Israel's National Service into the 23-year-old supermodel's contract. Fox last week announced Refaeli -- who is Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio's girlfriend -- would star in the company's campaign for the next three years and would earn about $300,000 a year. However, Ynetnews.com said critics of the model's decision not to serve in the Israeli military are threatening to boycott Fox if it doesn't drop her or pressure her to join the army or volunteer in the National Service. "We are not trying to make her life miserable," Reuven Agassi, a member of the forum, told Ynetnews.com. "But celebrities are the country's store-front window and when they express negativity towards enlisting in the army, it has its effect. I lecture at schools and students say, 'Look at that singer or model who didn't enlist and still succeeded.' Our appeal to Fox says that we can't provide economic benefits to people who have not served our country." http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Entertainment...ve_israel/7657/ http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3540109,00.html

  17. BYE-BYE Estee, Hello Bar. After two years as the presenter for Fox fashions, Estee Ginzberg and Fox are parting company by mutual consent. Ginzberg, then 16, generated a media storm when she succeeded Yael Bar-Zohar, who had been the Fox presenter for four years. Bar-Zohar stepped out of the picture when she felt that she had gone as far as she could go with Fox. Soon after Ginzberg's photographs began appearing in the press, head-hunters for the international fashion glossies began to track her down. Ginzberg has now been succeeded by yet another blonde who is already internationally famous. Bar Refaeli, who has signed a three-year contract for which she will receive close to a million dollars, is due to begin shooting the new Fox collection in September. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid...icle%2FShowFull Thanks to ginette
