  1. I think, under the current climate that this world is in, it's incredibly ignorant and naïve to say that bringing politics into fashion is hypocritical. I don't even see this as politics. This is just basic human decency. We have to be conscious in all the choices that we make. Do I think there's a lot of sensitivity in this world right now and people get a little too touchy about things? Sure. But this just simply isn't one of them. I can tell Candice meant no harm by this; she's a spiritual person who believes in energy, etc. is a fan of Bob Marley and reggae and the Rasta culture and I'm sure she's aware of why people wore dreadlocks and the significance of them. But I don't think I should think twice about getting worked up when a white girl decides to wear something for fun that people wear every single day for valid and personal reasons, whether it be religious or otherwise. Get me?
  2. Nope. Forget it! Candice can wear whatever and be whatever and she's perfect and never makes a bad call. Everyone enjoy praising the perfect angel.
  3. I've been a fan of Candice since she hit the scene. I know plenty about her.
  4. I figured expressing an opinion about Candice that wasn't totally licking her butt wouldn't be met with critical thinking. Nowhere did I say Candice is a racist or that she's a horrible person - it's clear that she loves her country and she loves its culture but the culture is not hers to wear ESPECIALLY as a costume at a festival like Burning Man. Candice is Dutch. The Dutch enslaved the black South Africans. I keep saying this to people: it's not about your intent but the impact it has. Dreadlocks have been worn by a multitude of races but the least of them were white. Dreadlocks are worn dominantly by the black community and it has been that way for ages. Let's not even get into how many black women have worn dreads only to be refused opportunities bc of their hair - so much so that they had to set laws in place so that they were protected. But when Candice or Kendall or models at Marc Jacobs show wear it, it's cool and fresh. None of this is Candices fault, obviously, but there's a responsibility you have as a white person to ensure that you do not appropriate a style of hair or dress that is deeply rooted within the black community or any other culture that is non-white. It's truly not that hard to understand.
  5. It's cultural appropriation at a festival. She's wearing it as a costume. It's disrespectful. She's also white. This has been debated many times and yet no one seems to get why it's inappropriate for a white person to wear dreads.
  6. She's so silly to wear dreads to this. The critical comments are deserved. I say this as a huge fan.
