Ricardo Brown (born November 23, 1972), also known as Kurupt the Kingpin or as Young Gotti is an American gangsta rapper. He has also worked as an actor, in films such as Hollywood Homicide and "Johnson Family Vacation". Although commonly associated with California, he was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His debut was on Dr. Dre's The Chronic in 1992, as a part of the two person group Tha Dogg Pound with Daz. Soon after that Kurupt signed to Death Row Records. He released an album with Daz called Dogg Food in 1995 on Death Row Records. Kurupt became friends with the late rapper Tupac Shakur when Tupac signed with Death Row in 1996 and it was Tupac who gave him the nickname Young Gotti.

In 1997 Kurupt left Death Row records for a position at Antra Records as an A and R, but still remained friends with Death Row and appeared on many albums published by Death Row. In 1998 under Artimus Records he released a double album called Kuruption which went platinum (sold one million records). Shortly after that he released The Streetz is a Mutha which also went platinum. In 2001 Tha Dogg Pound released 2002 under Death Row and Gotti and Dillinger under DPG and Artimus Records. That year Kurupt also released his third solo LP Space Boogie. Since then Kurupt has released Kurupts Greatest Hits: Volume 1.

From 2000, Kurupt was in a relationship with the female rapper Natina Reed of the group Blaque. They were going to get married in August 2001, but delayed the marriage for career reasons. Ultimately, their commitment did not last after that.

At this time, Kurupt also introduced to the world his latest protege, the rapper Immense. The two met in 2001 and Kurupt became his mentor soon after. He then took Immense to Def Jam president and Roc-a-Fella Records owner Jay-Z, whereupon Jay signed him as the first artist on "Roc-A-Fella West", a West Coast extention of the Roc.

In 2002 Kurupt met back up with Death Row CEO Suge Knight shortly after he got out of jail and signed with Death Row Records. By signing with Tha Row, Kurupt started a feud with Daz, Snoop and all of the DPG: his old friends. Kurupt released his debut Death Row album "Against The Grain" in August of 2005.

On April 13, 2005, Kurupt reunited with his fellow Dogg Pound mates through the peace meeting labelled "Protect the West", in which several other West Coast rap icons united to put aside their differences in hope of succeeding together. Snoop Dogg organized the gathering at which he also made peace with Kurupt's label CEO Suge Knight. Kurupt is now recording material with Daz and will release "Dillinger and Youngotti II" this fall on DPG Recordz.

Aside from being a solo artist, Kurupt is also a member of a number of Hip-Hop groups as well. In 2000, Kurupt teamed up with Canibus, Ras Kass and Killah Priest to form rap supergroup The 4 Horsemen. Later on, he began the supergroup The Riflemen- with Mobb Deep, Jayo Felony, 40 Glocc, and The Alchemist.

Beefs-

During his career, Kurupt has had his share of beefs; as a Death Row Inmate during the Death Row-Ruthless Records beef of the early 90's, he dissed Eazy-E; then again during the infamous Death Row-Bad Boy beef of the mid-90's, Kurupt (along with Snoop Dogg and Daz) dissed followed the example of 2Pac and dissed various NY artists including Mobb Deep and Capone-N-Noreaga, although he has admitted those beefs were mostly staged.

At one point he released a song entitled Callin' Out Names, mostly aimed toward the Ruff Ryders' DMX, whom recorded A Dog and A Fox with his then-fiancee, Foxy Brown. The Lox and Murder Inc's Irv Gotti and Ja Rule were also mentioned. Since then Kurupt has made peace with all concerned.

From 2002 to 2005, he and former labelmates/friends Daz and Snoop Dogg beefed over the Death Row situation, but have now settled their differences as well

Tha Dogg Pound is a rap duo made up of Kurupt and Daz Dillinger. The group has spawned an extended family, made up of Kurupt, Daz, Warren G, Nate Dogg, RBX, Lady of Rage, Snoop Dogg, Soopafly, Tray Deee, Bad Azz, Lil' 1/2 Dead, Lil C-Style, E-White, Goldie Loc, Wayniac & Trip Loc called the Dogg Pound Gangsta Clique or simply DPGC.

The group made their 1992 rap verse debut on Dr. Dre's The Chronic, on various songs. They also appeared on Snoop's classic Doggystyle, and the Death Row soundtracks Murder Was The Case and Above The Rim. Their solo, Dogg Food, was released in 1995. It was another addition to the controversy of rap music due to the sexual and violent lyrics and went on to sell three million albums.

In 1996, they were featured on 2Pac's Death Row Records debut All Eyez On Me. Kurupt and Daz went on to have solo success in 1998. They both eventually left Death Row Records, and Kurupt started Antra Records, while Daz started D.P.G. Recordz. In 2003 a feud arose between them because Kurupt had claimed that Daz betrayed him. Kurupt signed back to Death Row Records in 2004, and his awaited release "Against Tha Grain" has been postponed several times. Daz is still on D.P.G records, with his new 2005 release "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP". Sometime in April 2005 at the West Coast Conference held by Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Daz reconciled and recorded their new single "Push Back" that same night. There will be two new Dogg Pound albums out this year. The first will be a D.P.G.C. album with Tha Dogg Pound, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Soopafly, Warren G, Bad Azz, and Tray Deee.

Against Tha Grain, Tha Row Records, (2005)- It was critical because it was Death Row's first freshly recorded album in over 4 years! Unfortunately, the album went almost unoticed due to the lack of promotion by Koch Records, which currently ditributes all of Tha Row's albums. It did peak at number 60 on the Billboard 200 on September 2005.
