Nesta makes AC Milan comeback

Alessandro Nesta and Serginho ended their injury nightmares by making their comebacks for the Milan Primavera team today and could face Roma.

“The test went well and now we are waiting for our Serie A return too,” said the Italian international.

Serginho is yet to feature this season and some thought his career was over due to a serious back problem, while Nesta has been out of action for three months.

Both were fielded in Coach Filippo Galli’s Primavera youth championship game against Cagliari today, in which the Rossoneri won 6-0. As there is no reserve team in Italy, injured players regain fitness with the youth side.

“If Carlo Ancelotti calls me, then I have no problem playing,” added Nesta. “I feel ready to play and I cannot wait to extend my contract with Milan.”

Ancelotti was in the stands and also seemed convinced that their injury nightmares are finally over.

“Both Nesta and Serginho went well after such long lay-offs. We will see how they work in training this week, but I believe they are ready for the game with Roma.”

That tie will be played next Saturday evening in a crucial battle for Champions League spots.

ROSSONERI PREPARATION

Paolo Maldini, Serginho, Alessandro Nesta and Pippo Inzaghi were hard at work along with the rest of the squad in today’s training session

The Rossoneri returned to training today after the two days off granted by Carlo Ancelotti. The group met at 15.30 CET. Daniele Bonera is back from national duty and he participated in the session as well. The first part of the training was dedicated to strengthening exercises in the gym, followed by warm-ups in the raised obstacle course outside.

The players then moved to the upper field for running and stretching before Carlo Ancelotti dived them up into two six-man groups. The first training match was on a reduced pitch and ball possession work concluded this phase.

The group then started a six-against-six exercise, once again on the reduced pitch but with two touch passing and two goals. Nelson Dida and Valerio Fiori were the keepers for this match, while Marco Storari continued to train with coach Villiam Vecchi.

Paolo Maldini, Serginho, Alessandro Nesta and Pippo Inzaghi worked along with the rest of the group. Kakha Kaladze started working on strength training in the sandpit and then focused on technical exercises.

NESTA AND MALDINI SET FOR ROME

Milan went through their final training session before departing for Rome and both Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini were called up as the squad left for the capital at 5pm CET

Milan went through their final training session ahead of leaving for Rome. The players gathered at 11am CET for a start 30 minutes later on the pitch beside the gym. After a team talk from Carlo Ancelotti, the players then went through a warm-up drill for 10 minutes before doing some sprints.

The coach then distributed the bibs for a drill on ball possesion, tactics and a game. It gave the coaching staff to assess the condition of individual players in general.

Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini were both named in the squad for the trip to the capital along with five attackers, Gilardino, Ronaldo, Inzaghi, Ricardo Oliveira and Borriello. Ambrosini, Jankulovski, Costacurta, Kalac, Serginho, Grimi and Kaladze will not make the trip. As a precaution, Ambro was also left behind as he is suffering from muscle fatique from international duty while Jankulovski is tired from playing two full international games. Serginho has also paid for his week's training while Kaladze will also remain to continue training.
