Legion

Release date: February 8, 2017

Created by: Noah Hawley

Synopsis

David Haller is a troubled young man who was diagnosed with schizophrenia as a child. He has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years and, now in his early thirties, finds himself institutionalized again. His daily routine - including therapy, taking medications and silently listening to talkative friend Lenny - is upended when troubled new patient Syd arrives, and they are inexplicably drawn to each other after a startling encounter between the two, David confronts the possibility that the voices he hears and visions he sees may be real. He escapes from the hospital and seeks refuge with sister Amy, who wants to protect the picture-perfect suburban life she has established for herself. Syd eventually gets David involved with therapist Melanie Bird and her team of specialists, who open his eyes to a new world of possibilities.

Hadn't really heard much about this one beforehand, but the debut episode was an unexpected delight. Very trippy, idiosyncratic, and a long way outside the norms of anything I’ve come to expect from a comic book adaptation. Visually stunning too, it even makes a lot of recent movies look fairly pedestrian by comparison.

Anyone else watching or planning to watch?

Seen the commercials for it, maybe might try and watch :idk:

It's well worth checking out. I like the emphasis on character over superpowers so far, and I put a good deal of trust in Noah Hawley since Fargo has been consistently strong for a couple of seasons now.

I like it so far, and definitely agree with your Noah Hawley point.

Did you catch the second episode? It feels like the distinctive visuals have started to settle down a bit. You can easily see it unfolding into something very exciting, and of course, it doesn’t hurt that Dan Stevens is absolutely terrific in the lead role. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season now.

Absolutely. I think Dan, along with the two women (Rachel and Jean) Noah must have liked working with on Fargo, are all doing a great job.

I'm still liking the show, and Dan, and Rachel, and everyone really. It's fun.

Me too. The fourth episode unexpectedly answered a few questions, but of course leading to about two dozen more.

I think I'm still a bit fuzzy on what Kerry and Cary's exact relationship is. On the one hand they were often portrayed as siblings with Kerry the eldest, but on the other, Kerry seemed to be saying that they hadn't met before the moment Cary woke up and saw her playing with the train set.

Thanks for the reminder :hehe: .

I always tend to assume the show's UK pace is behind that of the US, but I'm never sure how far. Forgive me if I'm talking about things that are ancient history now for you guys.

Actually, I could use a break from Arrow and slide this one in that spot  .

how?? Arrow stopped being good a long time ago, drop it and start this

You always have to take the rough with the smooth when you watch Arrow, but this latest season has been a real refresh from the direction of the previous one (which wasn't good at all save for Neal McDonough's performances as Damien Darkh). I would go so far as to say a couple of the episodes have been genuinely excellent.

i've watched a couple of episodes and they were boring, plus i don't like the new team at all..the ratings are really bad now so i'm not the only one

but i started Arrow for Katie in the first place and since she's gone they can go to hell

Fair enough, but for what it's worth, I think some of the stuff they're doing at the moment is up there with the first two seasons. Which for me was when the show was at its best.
