Well, technically there should be nothing wrong with eating bugs, they are a great source of protein and are actually part of human diets in several cultures. I think what killed him in the volume of food ingested (I mean, you can get poisoned from drinking too much water lol), or perhaps damage created by animals not yet dead in his system.
