-You were at the peak of your career when you chose to retire. Was it really necessary? What made you make that decision despite the fact that until that moment you had always been able to make your work compatible with motherhood?

-The family was always my focus, do not forget that I breast-fed my children for two years and this time was very important. When I made the decision to leave the catwalks I was like a hamster that kept turning on its wheel, my life was only work. Then I moved to Boston with the family and I had to create a support for my husband. I stayed with 95% of the responsibility of everything so that he could do the things he wanted. Now I can think of a new stage in my career because the children are a little older.

-Trends resignation. 95% of the responsibility is too much. Did you learn from that process?

-It was very deep, to know oneself is vital, I believe that there is nothing more important than that and to achieve it, we must generate that space of introspection, of looking inward. I like to use the metaphor of the mountain. When you want to see the brightest sun you have to be at the top, but the only way to appreciate the whole valley is by being aware of the landscape all the way. That is the job that I have been doing. When the Olympics arrived, I thought it was the perfect time to close a great cycle of my life. It was the biggest catwalk in the world, more than 400 meters, in my country, for everyone, and it was very special for me.

- Is there something about that exposure that you miss?

-I am a Cancer sign, I am the matriarch, the one that reunites the family. Two weeks a year I bring everyone to my house, to my sisters, we cook, I am very family. I did not start being a model because I wanted to be famous. I started because at the age of 14 it emerged as an opportunity to earn money. We were five brothers, I come from a simple family, and it was something that was presented without searching and that I took advantage of. Here in Boston I discovered who I am and what I want from life, I walked away from the spotlight , which for me was never entirely comfortable.

-But your place is still very visible and very responsible, especially for your commitment to certain contingent issues, such as ecology.

-I was born in a town of 10 thousand inhabitants where it was normal to walk barefoot and climb trees to pluck a fruit. I grew up very connected to nature and I do not understand how we are destroying the most precious thing we have. For me, nature is my church, there is nothing more important. I do not understand how we are able to destroy it, I feel so part of the earth that when someone hurts him, it's as if he hurt me directly. 9 years ago I work in a project called Clean Water, to improve the water of the city where I was born. Now we are in a much larger one to clean the Rio Grande do Sul, which passes through 72 municipalities. First I cleaned the water of my city and now I want to do the same with my state. We all have a role in this life, we all have a role, a purpose. And from my place I feel that I have a platform and a responsibility. I do not want to be a person who was passing through this world, I want to leave something positive.

- Did you ever have to be in a situation where, as a woman, you were made to feel humiliated or undermined?

- Millions of times, because when you work in fashion is not necessarily where people are ... (Pauses). People think that in this industry it's all glamorous, but it's not all that.

-But have you ever received a proposal that did not correspond?

-I am always in the light. I perceive things very quickly, for example if there are people who use their power in a way that does not correspond, but I think that is something that exists in all professions. So I think all women for many years suffered this kind of thing because it was accepted, but now no longer. The abuse is unacceptable. But in my life, thank God I did not go through something as traumatizing as many other women.

-What have been the toughest stereotypes that you have had to face in your career or with which you have had to fight?

-I do not like being put in a box and personally I do not do it with others. Stereotypes only work for that. And since they are not in my mind, I do not pay attention to them.
