MauiKane
Harry Shum Jr. joins ABC Family's Shadowhunters by Jennifer Maas Posted May 15 2015 — 7:31 PM EDT Former Glee cast member Harry Shum Jr. is moving on from casting a spell with his voice to making some real magic as warlock Magnus Bane on ABC Family’s Shadowhunters, the network announced Friday. EW confirmed Shum Jr.’s casting in the show, which is based on the bestselling YA fantasy series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. The story follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who discovers on her birthday that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, a group of human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother, Jocelyn, is kidnapped, Clary begins demon hunting with the mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now aware of the warlocks, vampires and werewolves around her, Clary heads down a path of self-discovery and learns more about her past and what’s in store for her future. Shum Jr.’s character, Magnus Bane, is the “high warlock of Brooklyn.” He has an eccentric style, is fierce and cunning and holds his cards close to his chest. And though he appears to be in his 20s, he’s actually hundreds of years old, making him both wiser and and warier of others. Shadowhunters is executive produced by Ed Decter and McG, who will also direct the first episode. ABC Family recently announced the castings of Katherine McNamara (Clary Fray), Dominic Sherwood (Jace Wayland), Alberto Rosende (Simon), Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle Lightwood), Matthew Daddario (Alec Lightwood) and Isaiah Mustafa (Luke Garroway). Alan Van Sprang will appear in the recurring guest role of Valentine. ew.com
