Is it just me or do the side-kicks just keep getting hotter-and-hotter?

You won't hear me complaining, though.

I'm coming around to Clara, she comes across as immensely likeable. As much as I liked Amy, her plotline was starting to get rather muddled. I think it was the right time for she and Rory to bow out.

Episodes like this one remind me why I love the show. A cross-dimensional time-travelling gothic-horror romance is a story that you just couldn’t tell anywhere else. I'm guessing we'll be seeing the 'ghost' character again too. :hehe:

I don't know why they're only doing one-off episodes this season, I like a good two-parter every now and then. :/

Enjoyed 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS', but goshdarnit was the oldest of the three brothers an appalling actor.

I really like seeing Vastra, Jenny and Wayne Rooney Strax pop up every now and again. The work is already done with establishing them, and if they could perhaps make another appearance or two to get that essential rapport between characters going a bit more, they could have a spin-off on their hands, ala 'Sarah Jane Adventures'.

Cybermen next week. Looking forward to it. :hehe:

Dr Who Matt Smith Steps Down As Time Lord

Film career beckons for Smith, as speculation starts over whether the next Time Lord will be a woman.

Matt Smith will be replaced by the 12th incarnation of Doctor Who in a Christmas special. Smith, 30, who took on the role when David Tennant left in 2010, said it had been "an honour" to play the part. With no one signed up to replace him, Smith's departure immediately raised speculation about whether the next Doctor will be a woman, black or both. Names suggested in newspaper reports include Dame Helen Mirren and Broadchurch star Olivia Coleman, with bookmakers offering odds of 8-1 on a female doctor. The Wire star Idris Elba is also gets a mention. But Harry Potter star Rupert Grint and Russell Tovey of supernatural series Being Human were seen as early 10-1 favourites, according to bookmakers William Hill. The Doctor's current companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, will stay with the show.

Smith said: "Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. "I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years." He also paid tribute to show supremo Steven Moffat whose "varied, funny, mind bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career". He said: "It's been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he's a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.

"The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. "Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I'm back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special." Smith, who recently made his directorial debut, has spoken about ambitions for a film-making career. While playing the Doctor he has also taken on other roles, including the novelist Christopher Isherwood and 1948 Olympic rower Bert Bushnell. He has recently been filming a lead role in the Ryan Gosling film How To Catch A Monster which is due out next year. Moffat said: "Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he'd turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next.

"But great actors always know when it's time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt - bow ties were never cooler." Smith is due to appear with Tennant, Billie Piper, Jenna-Louise Coleman and John Hurt in Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special, before his farewell episode at Christmas. Moffat added: "Of course, this isn't the end of the story, because now the search begins. "Somewhere out there right now - all unknowing, just going about their business - is someone who's about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again! After 50 years, that's still so exciting!"

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor

In a special one-off live television event on BBC One this Sunday 4th August at 7pm, the next Doctor will be exclusively revealed to the nation.

Widely regarded as one of the most hotly contested roles in British television, the show's host Zoe Ball will unveil the 12th Doctor in the first ever interview in front of a live studio audience set against the backdrop of a swirling vortex, amongst Daleks and the TARDIS.

The half hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans.

Excitement will reach fever pitch as they speculate and recall their favourites, plus feature clips and moments from across the show's 50 year history.

Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews about one of the biggest roles in TV and set out just what it takes to be the Doctor.

Steven Moffat says: “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.”

Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One says: “BBC One is the home of big live events and this special live show is the perfect way to reveal the identity of the next Doctor and share it with the nation. The Doctor is a truly iconic role and I’m more than excited about the booking.”

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says: “We can't wait to unveil the next Doctor with everyone live on BBC1 on Sunday night. Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we've been using the codename Houdini as a decoy! It’s the biggest secret in showbiz, even those working with the new Doctor on other projects at the moment have no idea they are in the presence of the 12th incarnation.”

Keep up to date with all the latest news about the show and special guests as we build to the big climax over the next few days and follow www.facebook.com/BBCOne, @ BBCOne and @bbcdoctorwho and bbc.co.uk/doctorwho

The special live show is made by BBC Entertainment and Events for BBC One, Guy Freeman is Executive producer and Pinki Chambers is Executive Commissioning Editor. Commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One.

The show will be simulcast live on BBC America. Doctor Who is produced by BBC Cymru Wales.

Peter Capaldi revealed as the new Doctor Who

It's been a long day for Doctor Who fans.

But the wait is over, as Peter Capaldi  has finally been revealed as the 12th Doctor Who live on BBC1. The BBC confirmed in June that Matt Smith would be leaving the series after a four year stint in the coveted role - but kept schtum about who would be his replacement. Fans have been anticipating the announcement ever since, and it's been reported that only 10 people knew who would be taking his place.

Peter Capaldi is famous for his role as Malcolm Tucker from the BBC comedy series The Thick of It. The 55 year-old Scottish actor said he couldn't even tell his daughter about the news. "Doctor Who belongs to all of us," he added. Matt Smith said: "If I had to pick someone, I'd pick him...I know he's going to have a blast." Writer Steven Moffat said his three words to describe the new Doctor would be "different from Matt". So how will he take to playing the central role in the longest running science fiction series in the world? Are Whovians happy with the choice?

I'm very curious to see how this will play out.

I haven't seen much of Capaldi's work, but he seems very likeable. :)

It's definitely a change from the younger doctors though!

I suspect they've purposely gone for an older Doctor this time to try and reduce the chances of losing him to Hollywood in a year or two. Which isn't meant as a criticism of Peter Capaldi, I think he's a fantastic actor.

You might have seen him in 'Fires of Pompeii', an episode from the David Tennant era which also featured Karen Gillan. :hehe:
