So, I was watching the 2010 show and a question poped in my head: what happened between VS and Chanel Iman?

In 2010 it was all about her: big wings, opening a segment, interviews, closing the show etc.

Then, in 2011, just two crappy outfits.

Then...nothing...

Did she do something wrong?

She probably wasn(t selling as well as they expected.

But how does that work? You pose with a bra, the bra doesn't sell, you're to blame?

What if it's a shitty bra?

There are some models who can make a previously undesirable product fly off the shelves when they wear it. My guess is Adriana Lima is one of them.

What does recognition have to do with anything? Lais has been consistently working with the brand since 2010. If she wasn’t a good seller she would’ve been gone a long time ago. And don’t forget she only became an official Angel in 2015. So for a good five years she was working as a regular girl and has been kept all this time. Obviously she sells well.

A fantastic seller she hasn't got any recognition only now after 7 years I think Josephine is the seller ATM

I’d also say Lais is a fantastic seller as she’s been working with the company non stop since 2010.

How do we know any of this? Do they post some "sales x models" figures?

Skinnygossip probably think Romee is a fat pig, so I wouldn’t take a word of what those delusional sad people think at face value. :ninja:

Erin Heatherton was as well. She said in an interview they usually gave her the “uglier”

pieces because she could sell them. Maybe her all American cutie thing made her relatable to consumers.

And can’t forget Tyra who was the biggest panty seller, which can likely be largely attributed to her having the biggest booty out of all the VS models so she was the most relatable to consumers :D The same couldn’t be said about tiny Chanel.

+1000

that's why she's been in the company for 7 years even though Lais does not make buzz she makes sales.

Ines - had a child (don't remember the angels before her)

Daniela - retired from runway

Tyra - retired from runway

Gisele - asked for more money

Izabel - asked for more money

Selita - ?

Kk - gained weight, then had a baby

Heidi - retired from runway

Marisa - ?

Rosie - became an actress

Chanel - that (what you wrote)

Miranda - ?

Erin - gained weight?

Doutzen - ?

Lindsay - ?

Kate - ?

Jac - ?

Alessandra - retired from runway

Helena Christensen terminated her contract in 1998. She was already a bonafide supermodel at the time. Chandra North was only contracted for a show to fill in for Helena Christensen.

Ines Rivero's contract most likely only lasted a year. She remained walking for two years following her contract ending, but gave birth in 2001 and took a step back from modeling.

Karen Mulder retired from modeling in 2000 and later revealed personal issues stemming from mental illness, which may have contributed to her decision to leave the public eye.

Stephanie Seymour ended her contract in 2000 and sought treatment for a Vicodin addiction and alcoholism in the ensuing months, so probably due to personal issues.

Daniela Pestova gave birth in 2002, so she most likely ended her contract to focus on her family. She did SI after, but that's less of a time commitment.

Tyra Banks wanted to focus on America's Next Top Model and effectively retired from modeling full-time, although she occasionally appears in commercial advertisements.

Gisele Bundchen basically called the shots in her career by the time she ended her contract. Naomi stated earlier that she had been offered an Angel contract, but refused because she was worth too much. I assume that was how things played out with Gisele during her contract negotiations in 2006.

Izabel Goulart was offered more lucrative deals in high fashion (Armani offered her more money). She maintained good relationships with VS, which helped her continue to walk for the next decade.

Selita Ebanks did not renew her contract in early 2009. She returned for the 2009 and 2010, but was rumored to have been rejected during castings for the 2012 show. It doesn't seem like she had a great relationship with the brand towards the end of her career. She also is known to have a temper, having punched another model in the face in 2012, which may have resulted in her rejection during castings that year.

Karolina Kurkova also ended her contract around the same time. Having just given birth, I think the time commitment excuse makes sense here as well. She returned for the 2010 show and got a proper send-off in receiving the closing for Wild Things.

Heidi Klum ended her contract on her own terms. Both she and VS parted ways amicably. She does tons of entertainment jobs and probably wanted to focus on those and her growing family.

Marisa Miller was rumored to have been fired in 2009, but it was confirmed in 2010 that she negotiated out of her contract, in order to focus on different business endeavors. She was quoted stating that, in modern times, supermodels needed to become brands themselves, so she chose to focus on more individualized efforts, which included partnering with Harley Davidson and several projects that supported the US military.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was interested in pursuing more acting jobs, including the Transformers movie, which conflicted with her Angel contract.

Chanel Iman was rumored to be difficult to work with and to ignore requests from the brand to lose weight. Likewise, she was not considered to be a top seller and the brand terminated their contract with her.

Miranda Kerr wanted to spend more time with her son, which had been difficult to do with the demands of her contract. There were rumors that she was difficult to work with, but Ed himself stated that Miranda had been responsible for ending her contract on her own terms.

Erin Heatherton confirmed in 2016 that the intense demands to lose weight became too much for her and she decided she could no longer advertise the body that contributed to her career as being healthy. Erin's relationship with VS seemed to end sourly, which can be inferred based off of how poorly they treated her during the 2012 VS Fashion Show, but she maintains that they ended on good terms and the decision was respected.

Doutzen Kroes was offered more lucrative deals in Europe (presumably for Hunkemöller). Likewise, she wanted to continue to explore new opportunities, including expanding her acting career, which would later see her starring in Wonder Woman. Doutzen had exploded in 2013 in the high fashion world, which most likely allowed her to negotiate out of her contract easily.

Karlie Kloss also left in 2014, in order to finish her education and return to high fashion modeling. She did make her comeback in 2017 and may continue to walk, like Iza did.

Lindsay Ellingson never announced why she chose to leave the brand, but had previously mentioned how she did not plan on modeling forever and desired to venture into business. She co-founded Wander Beauty, a make-up and skincare company in 2015, following her final appearance in the VS Fashion Show. Lindsay and the brand probably agreed that her time was up.

Kate Grigoreva ended her contract because she had a limited grasp of the English language, which made being a spokesmodel extremely difficult for her. Nevertheless, following the termination of her contract after a year, she continued to be cast in the show.

Monika Jagaciak has alluded to developing an illness, which put her out of modeling for at least a year. Her contract was likely terminated on the basis of her being unable to commit to the position. She is rumored to still be contracted for one more show, but it may have expired.

Alessandra Ambrosio chose to pursue a career in acting, amicably cutting ties with the brand following the 2017 VS Show.
