Randy The Ram Posted November 7, 2009 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Up-and-coming actress Monica Raymund, who stars as the emotional and feisty Lightman Group employee Ria Torres on Lie To Me, was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. When she was just four years old, Monica was already playing the piano. At an early age, Monica has displayed extraordinary talent, a passion for singing, and an inclination towards the arts, which her father noticed while she did an impromptu vocal performance during her bat mitzvah. She had her first theater experience in a lead role in a school production when she was 12 and took voice lessons at 13. During high school, Monica spent some time with the Broadway Theatre Project in Tampa and five weeks at the North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA) Winston-Salem. After she graduated from Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Florida, Raymund already had an offer to study at NCSA but decided instead to audition at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where she appeared in several theatrical productions. With the support of her parents and her own perseverance, Monica completed her four years in Juilliard. Not long after her stay in Juilliard did she make her television debut, portraying a strip search prank call victim, in a 2008 episode Law & Order: Special Victims Unit while staying in New York. A New York casting agent then alerted her of the position in Tim Roth's new network show about a company specializing in deception detection. On the FOX drama series which top-bills Roth and Kelli Williams, Raymund possesses an uncanny natural ability to detect lies but is still learning the intricacies of their job. Actress: 1.
