They are both vets. Just after a few minutes of a visit in Anja's family house I understood, what her teacher means by saying that Anja owes her success thanks to her family. Ewa Rubik could share her positive energy with several people. Dressed in a lilac sweater (a gift from Anja from New York) and black skinny pants fastly walks by a spacious kitchen with wooden furniture. She's just preparing a dinner, at the same time she's preparing a tea, cuts cake and puts fruits on a plate. She's looking at her watch. "At 1 PM my husband will drop in (Anja's dad has a private vet center) and Asia with Jędrek (Ania's sister with her 8-year-old son), so we'll eat together". Ok, I wanted to translate more, but I gtg now bye!! another part.... "Nice photo" I say, pointing at an advertisement of a French cosmetic company NUXE, in which Anja took part few years ago. "Daughter doesn't like it" smiles Ewa Rubik "Even today in the morning she called and said:Please, took off this old thing. But I said we will took it off if we get sth new in exchange". The flat of Rubiks is full of souvenirs-things taken from different side of the world. On walls hang graphics, paintings, photographs, and between them Ania's photos: in a living room editorials for British and Italian "Vogue", in a bedroom campaigns for Chloe and Dior, photos from Valentino and Chanel runways. On every photo Anja looks completely different. The same is only her sight. "From the beginning I noticed her eyes. They were magical-says Lucyna Szymańska from D'Vision agency, for which Anja works. Ewa Rubik leads me upstairs to a room, in which Ania used to live. She starts on the computer on. On a screen several folders-all named and placed in chronological order. Ania: "Vogue", Ania: "Harper's Bazaar", Ania: 2007 shows, Ania: advertising campaigns. "I try to be online and download actual photos" she says. Ewa Rubik knows everything about fashion world. She can explain, what are fittings, backstage or booking. "I know it, because Ania has been functioning in this industry for several years". She looks into archives. "These are Ania's diaries, here phone cards collected by her, here photos of Brad Pitt, who she adored. And here, drawings and notes about dinosaurs". 1/8 of the article translated the rest tomorrow sorry for the shitty translation Another part now: Finally, she takes out family photos from South Africa, Greece, Crete. Most of her childhood Anja spent abroad. "We emigarted in 1988, when daughter was 5 years old. Firstly Greece, then Canada, finally SA, because husband got a contract in Umtata, a city in which Nelson Mandela was born. My daughters were the only ones white girls on a playground". Ewa Rubik laughs, that emmigration reluctanted(?) her older daughter an eager to travel, while in Anja's case it aroused her curiosity for the world. "She was everywhere, it was impossible to take eyes off of her". Anja has been always strongly bonded with her family. "She has called you already?" Anja's dad voice can be heard in the whole house. That's the first question he asks after he came back from work. "She called, but obviously, when I asked her about a fashion show, she said she has to end our talk" answers Ewa Rubik. Apparently Anja doesn't like to talk with family about her job. "Really? And she just told me she's bored, cause she's waiting for her make-up" her husband smiles. "We were talking for half an hour". And then, half serious, half not, adds: "And later these horrendous bills. American, French, Polish phones". When they are overshouting each other, they remind an Italian family a bit, especially when older of 8 years Ania's sister, Joanna, comes. By the way, she's very similar to her mum. She's also a tall, slim brunette. "Ania is more like her father" tells Ewa Rubik. "Also from her character, Maybe that's better, because we are hysterics, and to cope in fashion world, you need to have "nerves from steel". One day, they give you a job, another day they cancel it. It seems to you you are about to sign a contract, and then somebody else gets it". "Mum, remember when Anja was going to become Estee Lauder's face? And then the company resigned, because they managed to hire Gwyneth Paltrow?" Joanna butts in. "Ania was affected by this. It got better in time. But after a year she did a campaign for Beautiful parfums, Estee Lauder's". For daughter's 22nd Birthday Ewa Rubik wrote a poem showing daughter's attitude to model's life. [ok, here it was, but I didn't translate it ] "Cheerfulness and inner calmness is always kept by husband" smiles Ewa Rubik. "He is the master in cheering up. He always knows how to explain everything from a ompletely different perspective. Luckily, cause what would happen, if he hysterises just like we do?" she adds with a smile.
