Why Leonardo DiCaprio Pops Up In Documentary About Drake Bell’s Sexual Assault by a Nickelodeon Dialogue Coach

In ID's docuseries 'Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,' an archival clip is shown of DiCaprio and Brian Peck on the set of ABC's 'Growing Pains'

Among the many bombshells revealed in an upcoming docuseries about the toxic and dangerous culture on the sets of iconic children’s shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s comes a surprise mention of a major star — Leonardo DiCaprio.

Investigation Discovery’s four-part docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, premiering across two nights on ID starting March 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, features multiple interviews with former child actors, most notably Drake Bell, who for the first time reveals that dialogue coach Brian Peck repeatedly molested him when he was 15.

In the series, Bell, now 37, and his father, Joe Bell, discuss their experiences working with Peck on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show as well as the events that led up to the sexual abuse and criminal charges against Peck.

Joe was managing his son's career in 1999 when he booked an acting job for Drake on The Amanda Show. The following year, on the first day of the show's second season, Drake and his father met Peck, a dialogue coach who befriended Drake and invited the actor to his house for acting lessons.

Joe says he was told that Peck was a skilled coach who could help Drake to book more acting gigs. People had told him that Peck had even worked with Leonardo DiCaprio, Joe says.

“He got along with everyone, everyone got along with him,” Drake says of Peck in the docuseries. “He'd been working in the industry for a very, very long time. He knew tons about the history of Hollywood and that's what I loved.”

While Joe says he was “always within eye distance” of Peck and Drake as they worked together, he started to become uncomfortable with the relationship that was developing between them.

"Unfortunately, I started seeing Brian start to just hang around Drake too much and it didn't sit well with me," Joe says. He claims that while his son was in his dressing room, Peck would touch Drake in front of others in ways that made him question Peck’s intentions.

Joe also says he frequently saw Peck wrap his arms around Drake's waist while feeding him lines, or place his hand on Drake's shoulder and "kind of run it down his arm." He compared the behavior to a video he once saw—which is also shown on Quiet on Set—of Peck with a young Leonardo DiCaprio behind the scenes on the 1980s ABC sitcom Growing Pains

"Leo as you know is the latest, hottest, hunkiest teen idol there is,” Peck is heard saying in the archival clip. DiCaprio then playfully showed off his muscles for the camera.

DiCaprio was not described in the docuseries as having been connected to sexual abuse or sex crimes committed by Peck.

After some time, Joe expressed his concerns about Peck with production and said he was uncomfortable with the dialogue coach, who also appeared on screen on The Amanda Show as "Pickle Boy," being around his son. But when he mentioned the troubling relationship between Peck and his son again, he claims he was "ostracized" on set and decided to "back off.”

The father and son then cut ties, and Peck stepped in. Peck would later accompany Drake to acting auditions in Los Angeles, which were at least an hour away from where Drake lived with his mother. Due to the distance, Drake would frequently spend the night at Peck's house, but one night when he was 15 everything changed.

“I was sleeping on the couch where I usually sleep and I woke up to him... I opened my eyes and I woke up and he was…he was sexually assaulting me,” Drake says. “And I froze, and was in complete shock and had no idea what to do or how to react.”

In 2004, in connection with Drake's case, Peck pleaded no contest to a charge of oral copulation with a minor under 16 as well as a charge of performing a lewd act with a 14- or 15-year-old. Bell's identity as the victim was not made public at the time. Peck spent 16 months in prison and was mandated to register as a sex offender.

But at his sentencing, multiple well-known actors sent letters on his behalf to the judge and some even attended his sentencing hearing, the docuseries reveals. It’s not clear how much about the charges those who spoke out in support of Peck knew at the time.

Some of those stars included Growing Pains alums Alan Thicke — who died in 2016 — and Joanna Kerns

In a statement featured in Quiet on Set, Kerns expressed regret over having written her letter.

“I have now learned that my letter of support was based on complete misinformation,” Kerns said. “Knowing what I know now, I would never have written the letter.”

I feel deeply sad by reading this, the truth is that we will never know for sure if this happened to Leo or not, and I don't even think he would ever publicly speak out about this. It's really tragic.

Surprise. Today it's VINELAND again - this time in an alternate reality  The comment section for this is exploding 💥😄

Paul Thomas Anderson's Latest Tackles MAGA?

Yesterday’s piece, via Jeff Sneider, that Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest cost $175 million is making some waves (so is my other piece about Euphoria, and, by the way, that one’s coming from a very strong source).

An in-the-know journalist is telling me this morning that Anderson’s latest is in fact a reworking of “Vineland,” based in an alternate reality America and has Trump/MAGA elements sprinkled to it. It’s the hippies vs MAGA, they tell me, but that’s just scratching the surface of what PTA has in store here. Pynchon’s novel was set during the Reagan-era.

I’m hearing that this one has action movie elements, incorporating the biggest stunts of PTA’s career. Also, Sean Penn is rumored to be playing the head of a white supremacist group who tries to get rid of an interracial child he had in the ‘60s with Regina Hall’s character. DiCaprio is the adoptive father. It all just sounds completely bonkers.

The supposed MAGA elements would make sense considering that in February 2023 Sneider was hearing that PTA’s latest was a father/daughter story “about the current GOP” that might feature as a side character… Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene!

Sneider reported that PTA was looking for an actress to play Taylor Greene, adding that this intel came from a very credible source.

PTA has mentioned the novel, “Vineland,” numerous times over the years, and in a 2014 Time Out interview even insinuated that he tried to script it: “I'd wanted to adapt “Vineland”, but I never had the courage. It seemed to be a great way to translate [Pynchon] into a movie.”

Replacing Reagan/Nixon with Trump makes sense. If you’ve read the novel then a “contemporary” Vineland could be pulled off. Also, replace the ‘60s hippies with today’s ultra-progressives. Obviously, PTA would have to take some major liberties with the source material.

Honestly, all of the intel we’ve had about this film is leaning towards this being a VERY loose adaptation of “Vineland”. Daniel Richtman even confirmed it late last year. The only hesitation I have with all of this is why in the living hell would Warner Bros greenlight a $175 million film, directed by PTA, based on a Thomas Pynchon novel, and go as far as to release it commercially in the summer of 2025, and in IMAX, no less? The entire thing just sounds ABSURD. It’s the definition of a risky Hollywood endeavor.

The name of this movie will end up being "The Leonardo DiCaprio movie".🤣 Just imagine! Or..."The movie without a name".lol

    Leo looks handsome as always!❤️

Paul Thomas Anderson's New Film Actually Costs $175 Million, Might Be Rated PG-13 and ... is NOT Vineland?

So, it turns out that Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie isn’t cheap. A source is telling Jeff Sneider that Warner Bros. greenlit PTA’s latest for the whopping sum of $175 million. Original reporting had it costing anywhere between $100-$125 million.

Regardless, what an enormous gamble this is given that PTA’s most successful film (“There Will Be Blood”) only managed to make $76 million worldwide. Sure, this latest one has Leonardo DiCaprio in it, and is banking on a Summer 2025 rollout, in IMAX, no less, but it’s turned into the definition of a RISK. I’m not complaining. Give PTA as much money as he wants.

Oh, and, supposedly, PTA’s latest might not even be “Vineland” after all. It could be very loosely based on it, in the same way that “The Master” was based on Pynchon’s “V,” but don’t expect a wall-to-wall adaptation of “Vineland.” In fact, PTA, apparently, came up with the story and worked on the script with his daughter, Lucy. That’s the word on the street.

If you remember, back in 2018, PTA had confirmed that he was working on a script with his daughter who wasn’t happy with him only making R-rated films.

“Well, I’m working right now on a story with my daughter Lucy. She’s 8. She has taken it upon herself, realizing that if I wasn’t going to do it, she would do it with me,” Anderson said. “We’re trying to hash out something right now. It’s a good collaboration too. It keeps you on your toes.”

Anderson explained that, per usual, he was trying to take the unspecified story to darker places but that Lucy prevented him from doing so. This aligns well with rumors that it could be PTA’s most “mainstream” film to date. What we’ve noticed so far, from on-set leaks, is that the film is action-heavy, with lots of car chase scenes.

I mean, did we really expect Warner Bros to greenlight an R-rated $175 million film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson? It’s, of course, still a possibility — Warner CEO David Zaslav has done wilder things during his tenure as head honcho of Warners, but these latest whispers tell me that PTA is making a very commercial PG-13 film.

Wtf?🤣🤣🤣 I am totally lost right now. And Leo seems to be wearing some invisible cape kind of thing lately, where is "da man"?🤣

Leo DiCaprio & Teyana Taylor Touchy-Feely Flirt Sesh at Oscars Bash ... Just Friends, Not Dating

9:35 AM PT -- Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor are not dating, and there's nothing romantic between them at all. We're told Leo is still in a relationship, and he's not with Teyana. This interaction was strictly friendly, we're told.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his costar, Teyana Taylor, were looking pretty damn cozy over the weekend at a pre-Oscars party ... with a lot of touching going on between the two of them.

Check out these videos of the two actors -- who are currently in production for PT Anderson's new indie flick -- hobnobbing Friday night at the WME party here in L.A., where they were seen making contact at a couple different points in the evening.

Specifically ... Leo was seen with his arm wrapped around Teyana's waist as they got close and chit-chatted in private amid all the hustle and bustle of the party going on around them.

Teyana was wearing a fairly revealing outfit, FWIW ... and her lower back was exposed.

There was another moment where they were getting a little flirty -- with Teyana and LD facing each other and TT fixing Leo's ponytail from the back of his baseball cap. This one wasn't PDA, per se, but you can tell Teyana was comfortable doing it ... and ditto for Leo.

Once the hair help was complete, they continued to talk ... and laughed it up as well. No signs of them doing anything more telling than what we can see here, including kissing.

Still, it's pretty eye-opening to see ... especially since Leo is supposed to be dating model Vittoria Ceretti -- who was noticeably absent from this shindig. The last time Leo and Vittoria were spotted together in public was actually recent -- they were out and about in late Feb.

Teyana, of course, is in the middle of a divorce with Iman Shumpert ... which has gotten pretty ugly at times. They share children together, and while Teyana has tried keeping their divorce proceedings private -- much of the drama has surfaced in public court docs.

Of course, the bigger backdrop here is Leo/Tey acting in the same movie of late -- and on its face, it would appear they've gotten close. We've seen tons of footage of them on set, and they seem intricately involved in the script ... 'cause Teyana's shot a lot of scenes with LD.

Whether they're more than just friends, though ... anyone's guess. Clearly, they're comfortable with one another -- comfortable enough to put hands on each other, at least. One last thing .... we know Leo and Teyana left this party separately, for whatever that's worth.

We've reached out to Leo and Teyana's camp ... so far, no word back.

Innocent interaction? Ok then...are we really supposed to wrap our hand around someone's waist to hear what the other has to say clearly?🤭

Paul Thomas Anderson's Next Film is Set in 1984 California

ABC10 journalist Mark S. Allen seems to know what Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film is about, but he’s not dishing all the details out of respect for the cast and crew. However, he does divulge some interesting details …

In the video, Allen says the film takes place in Reagan-era 1984 and is being shot in some of the same places the former president inhabited during his time in Sacramento. So, it’s no coincidence that’s it’s being shot in Sacramento. He also says he believes the film will be released during the first quarter of 2025.

I have been theorizing, since March of 2023, that Anderson’s next film will be an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland.” Allen’s intel, again, matches the rumors. Reagan, although not a central character in “Vineland,” looms large, all over Pynchon’s novel.

    Here’s the synopsis for “Vineland”:

A group of Americans in Northern California in 1984 are struggling with the consequences of their lives in the sixties, still run by the passions of those times — sexual and political — which have refused to die. Among them is Zoyd Wheeler who is preparing for his annual act of televised insanity (for which he receives a government stipend) when an unwelcome face appears from out of his past.

Things just seem to be lining up in the direction of a Pynchon adaptation. There is no way to confirm it, and the trades would have already done that by now if they knew, but, at the very least, PTA’s latest must be partly inspired by the novel. They are filming at the same locations where “Vineland” takes place, and Leonardo DiCaprio has the same exact look as the character he’s supposed to be playing in the book, Zoyd Wheeler. Also, Wheeler’s daughter closely resembles actress Chase Infiniti who has been seen on-set with DiCaprio.

Oh, and on page 8 of “Vineland,” Zoyd says, "You called me, remember?" — in an on-set video taken by a fan, DiCaprio says practically the same line at the phone booth outside the grocery store.

It also looks as though the project is being shot, on film, spherically in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio by DP Michael Bauman. As we’ve seen from the leaked BTS footage, PTA’s latest has a lot of car chases, helicopters, police vehicles — the budget is said to be $115 million. With the already mentioned DiCaprio and Infiniti, some of the other actors taking part in the film include Sean Penn, Alan Haim and Teyana Taylor.

Oh, hence we have an explanation for the man bun 🤭. So the movie is set in 1984? Interesting...judging by their outfit in those pics, I thought it was set in recent times. I guess I'm confused now.🤣
