  1. 'Gossip Girl' Likely to Be Renewed for Shortened 6th Season'

"Gossip Girl" will likely be renewed for a shortened sixth and final season, according to an individual close to the production.

The CW drama is expected to return for a reduced number of episodes like fellow CW drama "One Tree Hill" did for its final season, the individual said.

A spokesman for the network said that CW has not yet made a decision about picking up any of its scripted shows for next year.

Given its low ratings, the show is seen as perpetually on the bubble. "Gossip Girl" averaged 1.7 million viewers, and a 1.9 rating in the women 18-34 demo, this year. That's a far cry from the 2.35 million viewers the show averaged in its debut season.

But renewal could be more palatable to the network because all of the show's stars, including Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, and Leighton Meester, are under contract for another season. That will spare CW the potentially costly ordeal of re-negotiating salaries.

"Gossip Girl" centers on the romances, trysts and social rivalries of a group of privileged young adults living in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The series celebrated its 100th episode in January. At the time, the show's producers expressed optimism that "Gossip Girl" would be back with more rivalries and bed-hopping.

"We're not writing a series finale this year," Executive Producer Stephanie Savage told zap2it.

I'm happy about this not because I want Blake to go off and do more movies or become a movie star or anything like that, if anything television work is more palatable because it ensures a steady source of income. However, the shoddy writing and the illogical storylines have reached a peak that is frankly too embarrassing for all involved.

Moreover, Blake's character Serena is one of the most underserved and bizarrely written characters in recent history. That Blake is able to get through filming of an episode with a straight face is a serious testament to her professionalism I swear.

  2. ^Welcome deyepee  Love so many new members joining this thread

Deyepee, just ask a question and everyone here would be willing to help you out. I take it you're a Blake fan too?

  3. Omgggg Arya  yay!!!! Welcome , been waiting sooo long for you to comment :p

Looking forward to your contributions and yeah I agree with you, I'm so desperate to hear news of a new role for her ;)

  4. Cherrybomb

Wow just seeing this. I didn't know my little, off-hand comment would cause you to go off on such a tangent. There's no reply I can write that isn't a rehash of stuff I've written here before way, way back (like everyone said, it is a tired argument) and I'm loathe to repeat myself.

I will say this though, if your standards for liking a woman are based on who they are or are not dating or how long they spend between relationships while at the same time acknowledging that you're letting a guy off the hook for the same, then liking Blake Lively or not is the least thing you should be worried about.

  5. ^Ha! Don't fight it :p

Seriously though, you don't have to like her right away but I suggest you should get to know her on your own terms and not what people say about her ;). She's more down to earth and homey than most realize.

  6. Oh, she NEVER gets papped when she's in LA. Oddly, that's one place with the abundance of paps and all where it's hardest to find her. (And people still have the gall to call her a famewhore :cain:) Doubt we'll get any pics of them, maybe if we're lucky we'll get a sighting, till they come back to the east coast.

  7. Boo Blake! :baronlamesign: (N)

Most likely she flew to L.A. to do ADR for Savages esp after the screening on Thursday. If she managed to get in some readings/auditions/deals in place, more grease to her. Can't say I'm not disappointed but work >>> social events.

  8. ^Je sais parler Anglais, un peu de Francais et une autre langue de ma mere. Oui, le Francais est tres complique, Je detestais etudier Francais absolument a l'ecole secondaire... L'Italien? Jamais

Back to English  I really hope she's at the gala tonight. This L.A. sighting has got me worried and it's been really silent on the Twitter front all day

  9. Yes Wendy, at the beginning, when she was with Penn he seemed very happy. But in the end no. When she filmed GL they were four months without seeing each other, this is not normal. I think Penn and Blake had a great love, but they grew up and went their separate ways.

With Ryan, I can not explain but looks different. It seems to be a more mature love and solid. She seems really happy and has that glow of who is really loving and being loved. I am very happy for her

Penn did make his way down to NOLA to visit her once or twice during GL filming like a supportive boyfriend. I actually liked them and they were very cute for what they were then, kinda like college boyfriend/girlfriend. I agree with you that they outgrew each other and were at different points in their lives. Blake is mature for her age which reflects in the kind of men she's dated after Penn.

Yay! Our girl is doing so well in her personal and career. She deserves it :)

She does, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and holding out hope that her detour to LA was to audition/sign up for a new role or something. Hopefully something career based.

She seems very happy with her.

  10. ^Lol, funny that they used the shot of her with the Uggs still on in their mag.

Anyway, here's one lady's review of Blake's movie Elvis & Annabelle that was screened on Lifetime today. It's a sweet little movie that all Blake fans should watch :).

    Elvis and Anabelle

I like Lifetime movies. I have no shame in my love of Lifetime movies. But today I watched a movie on Lifetime Movie Network that was sooo much better than a Lifetime movie. This movie is proof that you should not turn your nose up at something just because of the channel it is on. Yeah, I’m saying it. Don’t judge a book by its cover and all that jazz.

Elvis and Anabelle is one of the best romance movies I’ve seen in a while. I was a little turned off by the opening scene of embalming, simply because the last undertaker movie I watched (After Life) really rubbed me the wrong way. I actually paused it and told myself, “Power through; maybe this character will make it worthwhile.” He did. I had no problems once I got past the opening scene.

This is a movie that brings two misfits together when an undertaker’s son (Max Minghella) saves a beauty queen (Blake Lively). I’m hesitant to bring specifics into this for fear of spoiling things, but this romance is really a modern day fairy tale. Though the problem that eventually brings a rift between them seems a little contrived, the chemistry is there, the love is there, and the kindred spirits are believable, despite their very different attitudes and backgrounds.

I don’t know much about Blake Lively, as I’ve never gotten into Gossip Girl, but we saw her last weekend in a very different role as a Boston drug addict and tramp in The Town. She is definitely a talented actress with a lot of potential in terms of her range. I also want to make sure to point out amazing side characters—Elvis’s dad (played by Joe Mantegna in the best role I’ve EVER seen him in) and Anabelle’s mom (played by Mary Steenburgen, who I mostly know as Ted Danson’s wife, but she is fantastic in every project she takes on).

I’m no expert in terms of cinematography, but I know when I like how something looks. And this movie has some really beautiful scenes in it. The movie becomes progressively lighter (visually and thematically) as it works from beginning to end, and it’s interesting how/when more and more color is introduced. The shots of Elvis’s house and the surrounding area are awesome. This movie makes me want to pack up and go buy a farmhouse in Texas…or maybe just visit sometime.

Two thumbs up for Elvis and Anabelle. Keep an eye out for it if you are wanting a nice, relaxing, surprising movie that covers a lot of thematic ground, from suicide to disability to near death experiences to what happens when a Harold meets a Maude

  11. Some more Savages stuff from Taylor Kitsch's GQ interview:

GQ: Later this summer, you'll star with Benicio Del Toro and John Travolta in Oliver Stone's Savages. Cartels and drugs—it sounds like a pretty brutal crime thriller.

Taylor Kitsch: It's a retro Stone ordeal. Travolta was saying that he hasn't read a script like this since Pulp Fiction. I play the messed-up Navy Seal. I'm doing scenes where I'm heisting cars, blowing cars up, shooting guys. There's a scene where I slice a guy's throat, four seconds. We had a Seal on set who said it was just that simple: He hides a knife down his arm and he asks for the time. The guy rolls the window down, he drags the knife across his throat, puts the knife in his pocket, and he's in. Four seconds. Benicio is just matter-of-factly decapitating people. I kept asking Oliver to write more scenes with me and Benicio. He's like, "Kitsch, I am already trying to bring this movie down. I can't just add a twelve minute scene with you and Benicio."

Sad how he hardly mentions Blake though :( Sounds fun either way :)

  12. Oh wow, they're doing Savages screenings in NJ as well. Got this from IMDb:

by damacerone 32 minutes ago (Wed Mar 7 2012 08:43:42)

I'm attending a test screening in NJ tomorrow night.

They're really going all out with this one aren't they? They must be really really confident in it I think for them to start test screenings so wide and so early, imo.

  13. Wonderful words from newly-minted Oscar nominee, Demian Bichir:

Demián Bichir opens up on Olive Stone’s “Savages” and working with Taylor Kitsch

The movie slate this summer is jam packed with action blockbusters and superhero sequels, but tucked away in the middle of them is Oliver Stone‘s latest crime-drama, “Savages.” The film follows two marijuana growers named Ben (Aaron Johnson) and Chon (Taylor Kitsch) as they try to rescue their kidnapped shared girlfriend O (Blake Lively) from a Mexican drug cartel. It certainly isn’t the lightest of films, but it’s something we’ve been long looking forward to.

Spirit Award nominee Demián Bichir plays a character named Alex in the film, though little was known about his role. IFC caught up with the “A Better Life” star on the red carpet at the Spirit Awards on Saturday and asked him to share more about the role he plays in the movie.

“I play a whole different character from Fidel Castro [in 'Che'] or Carlos Galindo in ‘A Better Life,’” he said with a laugh. “I play Salma Hayek‘s lawyer and it’s a wonderful film. It’s an amazing raw story and Oliver Stone is one of those directors that mark your life.”

It’s a big year for Kitsch, who also stars in the upcoming films “John Carter” and “Battleship.” Shouldering three major movie releases in one year is no easy burden for any actor, especially for one as relatively untried as Kitsch. But Bichir had no doubts that Kitsch would be able to pull off all of his roles.

“Taylor? That guy’s amazing. And Aaron Johnson and Blake Lively,” Bichir said. “They’re not only great actors, they’re beautiful people, and it was an honor to be close to them and work on those scenes with them.”

“Savages” is due in theaters on July 6. It also stars John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio del Toro and Emile Hirsch.
