DeFer was born in Tucson, Arizona attended Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and Desert Christian School. In 2003, she left for Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. DeFer has made appearances on television and starred in the Nick Cannon movie Underclassman. She is in the film Flicka (2006), starring Tim McGraw.
