Supergirl
Supergirl is an American television series developed by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, that airs on CBS. It is based on the DC Comics character Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, and stars Melissa Benoist as the title character. Supergirl is a costumed superheroine who is the biological cousin to Superman and one of the last surviving Kryptonians. The series was officially picked up on May 6, 2015 after receiving a series commitment in September 2014, and premiered on October 26, 2015.

Synopsis
Twenty-four-year-old Kara Zor-El (Benoist), who was taken in by the Danvers family when she was 13 after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers family teaches Kara to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism even when it comes to protecting National City. Kara discovers that hundreds of the criminals her mother (Benanti) prosecuted on Krypton are hiding on Earth, including her mother's twin sister (also played by Benanti), who seeks to rule the world. She is aided by a few close friends and family who guard her secrets.

I just checked out the pilot. Yes, there's another superhero on TV and yes, the show is very conventional. It was a fun watch though and as mission statements go, fast-moving and good-natured isn't half bad. I'll be tuning in again next week.

Anyone else had a look?

The energised pace was pretty refreshing. Certainly the polar opposite of something like Smallville, which made everyone suffer through ten long seasons before Clark even got to fly properly. The fact that it shows someone who actually enjoys having powers rather than being all dark and angsty is a good thing too.

You'd probably have to say the alien bad guy was the show's weakest element, and I suppose if Kara has to hunt down a different escapee from the Phantom Zone prison every week, things could start to drag a bit. But at least it’s off to a flyer, let's see how it goes next time. :D

I have actually barely watched Parks & Rec it's the next show I will watch tho.

Blasphemy! :rolingpin:

They could stand to cut back on the references to Clark, but it's been a surprisingly tight and enjoyable show up to now. I'd go so far as to say Kara is the most charming character on TV at the moment.

Sadly though, they've missed a golden opportunity with regard to Jimmy Olsen's wardrobe. Here we are in the one and only time period where they could have put him in his trademark dickie bow and legitimately called it fashionable, and they don't do it. Because these are the things that really matter, obviously. :D

Supergirl : it's fine to watch but I still don't get how that show got 97% fresh on RT. It's ok but nowhere near great.

It's one of my favourite shows on television right now. It's refreshingly light, and still has engaging stories and characters imo.

I imagine it's getting a lot of support considering the main cast of the show is women and men of colour, something that a lot of people want to see on TV right now.

I don't know, I personnaly find the characters to be a bit flat. Overall I find the show to be entertaining but a bit too "safe" if it makes any sense.

Supergirl has been renewed for a second season, but will be moving networks from CBS to The CW.

The CW's programming is pretty hit and miss imo, but they have The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow so hopefully they'll be some interesting crossover stuff. The Flash episode was one of my favourites of the last season.

The CW's DC Universe has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years. I like The Flash and still quite enjoy Arrow, although I feel like I'm constantly on the brink of giving up on Legends of Tomorrow. In theory you couldn't pick a better character than Savage to build a time-travel story around, but in practice he's a bit underwhelming.

I'll be more than happy to see Supergirl come back for another season though, even if the show has become something of a heart over head decision for me. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's just so charming and fun. :hehe:

News just broke that Tyler Hoechlin of 'Teen Wolf' fame has been cast as Clark for the show's second season.

Some folks online are pointing to the respective ages of Hoechlin and Melissa Benoist, others have shown disappointment about Tom Welling not reprising the role. I've no issue with any of that myself, but I'll be disappointed if the writers allow Superman to overshadow Supergirl in her own show. To be honest, I'd hoped that Clark would basically just stay as a CGI silhouette with no real exposure as a character. At the very most, a figure on a pedestal for Kara to try and live up to.

I think Tyler's a babe, so I'm all for the casting. Has it been confirmed if he'll be playing a regular or maybe just a recurring role? A recurring role would a handful of episodes in the season, with maybe a minor arc around him, would be preferable.

It's been reported that the move from filming in LA to Vancouver could affect Callista Flcokhart's involvement in the show, and might result in a reduced role for Cat Grant.

They've added two series regulars, Lena Luthor, Lex's younger sister; and Nick Farrow, a new "playboy" reporter working with Kara and Cat. There are also three new recurring roles announced- The Doctor, the leader of Project Cadmus; Snapper Carr, a journalist; and Maggie, a new detective based on Maggs Saywer.

He's only confirmed to appear in two episodes at the moment, probably with a view to being in December's big showpiece crossover event too.

I must say, I'm not actually familiar with his acting work, although there's no doubt that he looks the part.
