I didn't have high expectations for the film when it was announced, but hoped that it would do well solely because I wanted it to be a spring board for Michael to land some more projects. In fairness to Trank, the leaked outline of what he initially proposed was streets ahead of what became the end product. I doubt his original version will ever see the light of day though, so whether or not those ideas could have been funneled into a coherent story or translated to the big screen, we'll probably never know.
