Ricardo Leyva "Richard" Munoz Ramirez aka, the "Night Stalker" was an American serial killer, rapist, burglar and Satanist. He was born February 29th, 1960 in the run down barrio of El Paso, Texas and was the youngest of 5 children. He had a seemingly normal childhood, but when a war-hero cousin returned from Vietnam, Richard was exposed to the horror and suffering his cousin inflicted upon his victims. His cousin and him bonded over smoking joints and gory war stories. Later on, he witnessed the murder of his cousin's wife. He was standing just 2 feet away. His cousin was not found guilty by reason of insanity. Richard realized you could get away with murder.

He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and developed weird sleeping habits. Ramirez began to meld his burgeoning sexual fantasies with violence, including those with force bondage and rape, exactly what he was taught by his cousin. His cousin also taught him how to become one with the night, how to stay hidden in the shadows and how to maintain supreme stealth. He moved to Los Angeles California at the age of 22.

His crime spree began on June 28th, 1984 and ended August 31st, 1985 when his mugshot was shown on television. He was spotted by an elderly Mexican women in a convenience store identifying him as "El Matador". He saw his face on the newspaper rack and fled. After running across the Santa Anna Freeway, Ramirez attempted to carjack a woman, but was chased away by bystanders, who severely beat Richard and held him down until the police arrived and took him into custody.

With so many crimes to consider, it took 2 years just to bring Ramirez to his preliminary hearing, then legal delays spread the process out by 2 more years, but regardless, Ramirez had to show up for his arraignment. He chose 2 inexperienced attorney's, who would delay the trial for years with pre-trial motions and many postponement request, but the delays could not last forever. In 1989, Ramirez would face a jury who would determine if he was the "Night Stalker"

On September 20, 1989, Ramirez was found guilty of all charges: 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries. During the penalty phase of the trial on November 7, 1989, he was sentenced to die in California's gas chamber. He stated to reporters after the death sentences, "Big deal. Death always went with the territory. See you in Disneyland." Despite the overwhelming evidence presented against him, Ramirez had his own groupies and  started a brand of cult appeal. He married a woman who began writing to him in 1985 in 1996. He died in San Quentin State Prison on June 7th, 2013 from B- Cell Lymphoma.
