I read "The end of Mr Y" a while ago and liked it a lot. You can learn a lot about thought experimenty and quantum physics while reading it, but it is not complicated, not at all...
"What I loved" by Siri Hustvedt touched me emotionally. It's a great work.
Everything by John Irving. He's my favourite male author and I adore his works. My fav is "Hotel New Hampshire"...
"Wuthering Heights" left me breathless. It's a must-read IMO.

I recommend "The Final Journey" by Gudrun Pausewang, its a VERY easy read I read it in like 8th grade and re-read it now (in college), and its a tale about the Holocaust.

It's relatively unknown - I know a lot of voracious readers and I'm the only one whose read it, but for fantasy/historical lovers...
