It's the film adaptation to Veronica Roth's Divergent Trilogy and it has a release date of March 21st, 2014. Filming has already started.

Plot

In the distant future, the city of Chicago has divided society into five separate factions, each one meant to uphold a particular virtue of humanity: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). On a given day each year, all 16-year-olds' must take an aptitude test that tells them which faction they truly belong to. After taking the test, they can decide whether or not to transfer from their faction to a different one for the rest of their lives.

Sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior was born into an Abnegation family, but selflessness has never come naturally to her. She feels lonely and constricted by her environment and feels like she doesn't belong. When the time comes for Beatrice to take her aptitude test, the results are surprising: she doesn't fit neatly into any one faction; rather, she shows equal aptitude for three -- Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. She is told she is therefore Divergent and is warned never to share this information with anyone.

On Choosing Day, the day the 16-year-olds make their choice of which faction they will belong to, Beatrice ultimately makes the decision to leave her home faction and join the Dauntless. Beatrice, who then renames herself Tris, and the other new Dauntless transfers must then compete in a grueling initiation that will determine whether they will make the cut to become full-fledged members. As a growing conflict between the factions intensifies, Tris learns the true power -- and danger -- of what it means to be Divergent.

I'd like to say that i read the book and it's pretty good, I find it to be a little more realistic than 'The Hunger Games' so I am excited to see how things work out with the movie.

I do have to say that i have two big fat issues with the movie already: The casting. Shailene looks absolutely nothing like Tris, I honestly feel casting people was high when casting her. And then Theo James, WTFFFFFFFF?! He looks absolutely NOTHING like Tobías/Four! I think it's retarded that they didn't cast Alex Pettyfer for the part as he is basically the perfect description of the character in the books or Alexander Ludwig, he was also the perfect guy for the role, I am very annoyed by freaking Theo James. But as I always do, I am going to give this movie a chance and I'll be on the watch for news.

On the other side they did make some amazing choice in castings like Ashley Judd & Kate Winslet, also Zoe Kravits is the perfect Christina . The others I haven't really seen acting so i don't know

I liked the realistic part of the books too, although the 'love story' is a bit overdone imo.

But fuck yeah- happy to see Kate join, I hope she has the effect on Divergent that PSH has (and hopefully live up to) in Catching Fire.

I like the love story because unlike THG, Harry Potter, Twilight (Ewww) & so on, Tris & Four liked each other from the first minute, they knew it, they never even tried to hide it or fight against it, they're like "We're in love, fuck everyone"

Overall i do like THG better than Divergent so far but the last part of the Trilogy is not even out yet so I don't know how will i end up liking it

That's true. But I just wish there was more room for the whole conflict as an aspect, but oh well :)

And now you say so, the third title just got released: Allegiant

Perhaps it will focus more on behind the fence

And thereby leave even more room for Kate :)

Saw the movie....reading the books....Absolutly loved it! I agree Shailene was a little miscast, but she was good, and she is a pretty good actress. THEO JAMES WAS JUST :o Like how I walked out of the theatre trembling after Man Of Steel because Henry Cavill, it was the same way with Theo. They are actually kinda sorta similar looking. Anyway he was HOT stuff

The movie itself was amazing! I thought The Hunger Games movies stood more true to the books, but I enjoyed the Divergent movie more than The Hunger Games.

Critics aren't giving it such great reviews, but I know I and the theatre were pretty into it. On rotton tomatoes as well it shows a high viewer rating as opposed to a low critic rating :)

'Divergent' Sequel Officially Happening! Get Ready For 'Insurgent'
Ahead of a big opening weekend, the follow-up is set to hit theaters in 2015.

"Divergent's" opening weekend is already off to a great start. The first installment of what is now guaranteed to be a franchise earned $4.9 million in Thursday night screenings, and Summit Entertainment officially ordered the planned sequel, "Insurgent."

The sequel to the Shailene Woodley-led YA adaptation was previously scheduled for a March 2015 release date with director Robert Schwentke ("R.I.P.D.") taking over for Neil Burger and a script by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman, and now quick follow-up has been officially greenlighted.

This puts the series on-track for the previous plan of one installment a year, and if all goes according to schedule, the series will close out with "Allegiant" in 2016.

Based on early box office estimations, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "Divergent" on-pace for a possible $60 million weekend. That would make it the second biggest opening of the year behind "The LEGO Movie."

"We're off to a great start with strong numbers from all regions of the country, urban, suburban and rural alike," said Jon Feltheimer, the CEO of Summit's parent company, Lionsgate, in a statement. "We're confident that 'Divergent' is on its way to becoming another important franchise for us, and we have just greenlighted the second film, 'Insurgent.' "

Summit and Lionsgate were keen to find another successful YA series to bank now that the "Twilight Saga" is over and "The Hunger Games" will be ending next year.

The films are based on the hit series of YA novels by Veronica Roth and tell the story of a young heroine living in a society split up into personality-based factions.
