Ah Amsterdam, when thinking of leo characters not always does that character pop in my head. :p Not my fav leo look in a movie either, but i had a thing for the pap pics of him from that era when he was rocking that man bun haha. Similar to The Revenant era pap pics but without the massive beard :p

Thanks for the Jack Black/ Kate Hudson vid. Hahah funny! Fitting that Kate H was the one trying to straighten things up, leo and her are long time friends :p She went to his gala last year etc. And even if they werent friends, i think most people who watched the situation could tell his look wasnt meant in the way the media was portraying it to mean.

Thanks for the DailyMail article, geez its always something huh??. Probably wont stop him from Vaping at public events in the future.  Leo is getting alot of press these days some good yes, but some rather eye rolling too :p Leo flys under the radar most of the times in regards to making headlines even even when he's at a public event, but these award shows these days there's always something that he makes headlines for, makes sense because he's the most watched and interesting person of award season right now, but its for random reasons. Anyways, i dont mind too much. After he wins his oscar and award season is done things will probably go back to normal again and then ill miss all this stuff (maybe not silly things like the vaping thing, but the other stuff :p )

Leo is certainly having an amazing 2016 so far... and its only the beginning of February. wow. All these awards (environmental award included), his peers showing so much love to him, his movie exceeding expectations when there was worry about it underperforming and he met the Pope :p I wonder how leo feels when measuring this part of his life compared to the rest of his life.

So what trophy do you guys think looks better??? The Golden Globe or the SAG (Actor) trophy?

Id say the SAG one, it just looks more interesting, the Golden Globe one looks rather boring to me. Plus it looks cheaper for some reason to me. Maybe I just feel that way because its smaller, looks less heavy :p

I think even the BAFTA award looks better than the Golden Globe. Speaking of which hope to see leo holding up that BAFTA award next :D

Also, i wonder who gave leo his Critics Choice trophy. For example, did a friend who was at the Critics Choice ceremony receive it and they then gave it to leo once he returned. Or did the BFCA just keep it and leo had to go get it? Have no idea how it works :p

Ah would love to see how/ where leo keeps all his trophies. Probably has a trophy shelf case or something like that. At his Hollywood Hills home maybe? :p Would love to his whole collection all together :p

^Once I saw a documentary about Titanic. It was mainly about the ship and not the movie, but they mentioned that hole 'was there enough room for Jack' topic. They even tested it and they came to the conclusion the wreckage only could handle both of their weight if Jack and Rose had put her life jacket under the wreckage. So it's not about the room it's more about the weight... found it quite interesting :p

^interesting :)

I think in the movie, even Jack made a short attempt to get on the door but it started to tip over. However, there was no dialogue in the film between them discussing that they both wouldnt be able to fit, so perhaps that part flew by alot of people. :)

Leo took his dad to both Golden Globes and SAG. (yes his mom was on the red carpet with him at GG, but I mean she wasnt sitting inside at the table with him)

I bet Leo's mom will get the big one...sitting beside him at the Oscars. :p I wish they'd allow two guests... would be great to see both parents there.

Actually, even though leo's parents are divorced, would still be cute to see a recent pic of the three of them together.

Erin Heatherton just posted a pic from when she was an extra in the Great Gatsby. We all know that was filmed when her and Leo started dating :p

ALWAYS Loved erin. She is such a sweetheart and super down to earth. She loves from her heart, and not one second did I ever believe she was with Leo only for fame. Really genuine lovely girl

A Fistful of Thoughts...about Leonardo DiCaprio and the quest for the elusive Oscar!

Alright, so this week I had a slew of topics ready to go for this entry of A Fistful of Thoughts, and only ONE of them had anything to do with #OscarsSoWhite (I edited) but then that got (got?) annoying and I didn't feel like talking about it anymore.

And then I saw The Revenant.

Yes, over the weekend I was blessed with the latest offering from torture porn enthusiast Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and I decided that I knew exactly what I was going to talk about today.

Leonardo DiCaprio.

Well, not only Leonardo, but this whole concept of 'baiting Oscar' and the idea that just because he's finally getting his Oscar this year it's somehow some sort of a sin that he's not winning for a performance many deem as 'his best'. I've been reading tweets for months now debating Leo's inevitable Oscar win and the fact that it's considered some sort of makeup Oscar due to his being, you know, due for an Oscar, and I've been reading so many polls about 'Which Performance Leo Should Have Won For' and random tweets about how 'X performance was better than The Revenant' and after having seen the film...I...just...don't...get...it.

Sometimes I feel like we, as a collective community of people, can never be happy. The same people who bitched and moaned that Leo didn't have an Oscar are the same people who are bitching and moaning that he's winning for 'grunting and groaning' and 'suffering' and not for snorting cocaine off of some girl's ass. What's sad is that this kind of mentality completely dismisses what DiCaprio actually accomplished with this performance. It shrugs off his performance as a mere plea for Oscar, which is not what it was. To think that Leo has been baiting an Oscar for years is to completely rewrite his professional choices, since nothing about films like Shutter Island, Inception, The Great Gatsby, and when you think about it, The Wolf of Wall Street, scream Oscar winning role. In fact, despite the physical transformation he underwent, there isn't much about his performance in The Revenant that screams Oscar bait. Can you think of the last actor who won for a practically non-speaking performance in a brutally violent revenge Western? There isn't one. Could it just be that Leo wants to work with interesting directors on interesting projects?

And yet, we still complain.

I mean, I get it...we all want our favorite actors (or just actors in general) to win for their very best, but let's be logical here...that never happens. Well, it does happen, but this only happens in pretty much one instance:

When you aren't a great actor.

Think of an actor or actress who has won for their VERY BEST performance. Who is it? If you thought Mo'Nique in Precious, then I just made my point. Mediocre actors who blow our minds with a turn no one saw coming can seal the Oscar deal on that alone, and in that case they can genuinely say that they won for their very best, but that's pretty much the only way this happens. The thing is that great actors will never win for their best work because they are always good, and so their best is expected and subjective and so someone like Leonardo DiCaprio is never going to go back in time and win for something like The Wolf of Wall Street (the one that many seem to point to as 'his best') or for a film he was never nominated for, like Shutter Island (my personal favorite Leonardo performance) but I see no reason to begrudge his win this year for that reason.

And before you say "Robert De Niro won for Raging Bull" I'll correct you that Taxi Driver is his best performance.

I mean, this isn't some kind of Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman mess either. This isn't like Leo is finally winning...for some performance that is beneath him (that would have been Blood Diamond). Leonardo DiCaprio is winning for a DAMN GOOD performance. In fact, of his five Oscar nominations, I'd only rank this performance below The Wolf of Wall Street, and not that much below to be honest. And when you think of the recent Best Actor winners, he's clearly ahead of Eddie Redmayne, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Firth and Jeff Bridges, and I'd personally say he's better than Daniel Day-Lewis's mimicry Oscar.

2.gif

Kate Winslet got this kind of flak when it was 'her time' and everyone was all "she's only winning because it's a Holocaust movie" and, sure, it was bait and it wasn't her 'best', but it was a brilliantly composed performance and it was deserving of an Oscar. Julianne Moore was also beautifully restrained and deserving for her turn in Still Alice, even if it was far from her more inventive and memorable work in the 90's. The greats are great because they are generally always great, and so when they finally get the chance to take home an Oscar, can't we just be happy that they're winning for, once again, being great?

And it's not like he's beating out someone who is considered to have delivered a performance far better than his. I'm all for awarding the very best, regardless of actor bias, but it's not like his fellow nominees are thought of to have exceeded Leonardo in any astronomical way. Michael Fassbender has his fans and his supporters for his performance in Steve Jobs, but I haven't heard anyone say he blows Leonardo away or anything. It's not like Leo is stealing someone's Oscar.

Like when Al Pacino stole Denzel Washington's.

001_2.gif

So, yes, Leonardo DiCaprio nearly died while filming The Revenant, but gimmick aside, this performance is an astonishing work from one of our greats, and even if it isn't his best...I'm damn glad he's winning the Oscar for a performance he can be proud of.

oh I saw that it was a Mythbuster if I remember correctly, with James Cameron. In salt water they would have both freeze to death cause water would have come on the door... and honestly who would think about putting a life jacker underneath ? lol

I couldnt agree more with you, Erin is such a sweet girl, and she was clearly in love with him, she was with Leo the man, not Leonardo Dicaprio the famous actor.

At least I always got this feeling from her...

@SweetGaby Shes just such a genuine person. She loves who she loves no matter their status, always has, so I also had no question she was with him because she loved him not just because he was famous.

Onto another Leo ex

Refaeli invokes DiCaprio in attempt to avoid taxes

Quote

Representatives of model Bar Refaeli have reportedly tried to convince the Israeli authorities that she should be exempt from paying taxes in 2009-2010 because her relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio made Israel not “the center of her life” during that time.

According to a report in daily Yedioth Ahronoth on Monday, Refaeli’s lawyers and accountants made the “creative” argument, among others, in an attempt to skirt paying taxes on some NIS 15 million ($3.8 million) in income earned working abroad.

They explained that during this period, Refaeli was abroad, living with DiCaprio in his mansion in the United States and enjoying the use of his luxury cars.

The tax authority was reportedly not impressed by the arguments, saying that because the couple was never married, and their relationship apparently “had its ups and downs” during this period, her claims of tax exemption were not valid, the newspaper report said.

Indeed, when investigators followed up on the claims regarding her center of life being in the United States with DiCaprio at the time, US tax authorities revealed that she was registered there as a “non-resident,” the newspaper report said. The investigators also established that during this period, Refaeli owned no assets outside Israel, and had not even rented a car or a house abroad.

Furthermore, the tax authority determined that Refaeli was not outside Israel for quite long enough in 2009-2010 to be eligible for the relevant tax breaks, being short by just one day.

The supermodel was initially called in by the tax authorities in December and questioned for 12 hours regarding allegations of tax fraud.

Aside from unreported income, Refaeli is suspected of not reporting that she had someone else pay her rent at an apartment at the luxury W high-rises in Tel Aviv; underpaying an interior designer in exchange for helping him with advertising; and receiving a free car from a company, also in exchange for help with advertising, according to news site Ynet.

Refaeli denies all wrongdoing.

Her mother is also reported to be involved in the case.

The model, whose scads of campaigns for various companies has made her one of Israel’s most recognizable faces on the world stage, is also a mainstay of celebrity websites and gossip rags in Israel and the US.
