From the Roots blog, Sept. 13 2011:

Rachelle Goulding’s relationship with the company started just over a year ago. Since then she’s become one of the main faces of Roots, appearing in seven advertising campaigns and gracing two covers of The Source.

“I’ve loved everything about working with Roots,” she says. “The crew have all become close friends of mine, and we work so well together that it doesn’t feel like a job.”

Born in Vancouver, the full-time model has lived in New Zealand; Australia; Victoria, BC; Calgary; and now New York. She has the travel bug, and has visited several locations to work with the Roots team.

“The shoot in Joshua Tree National Park, in California, was by far my favourite. Not only did everyone work so well together on that shoot,” she says, “but it was amazing to spend an entire week in the desert, to be able to see every star at night, and to really feel like you were in the middle of nowhere.”

Rachelle’s work takes her all over the world, and to keep herself busy in foreign cities she often enjoys going to the movies by herself.

“Usually by the time my contract in a city is up, I will have seen every film that is playing in theatres,” she says. “In fact, I saw two movies back-to-back today – and yes, I did pay to see the second one!”

When she isn’t working, Rachelle, 25, likes to spend time at home in New York with her French bulldog, Winston.

“When I’m not traveling, I love cooking at home,” she says. “I also like anything that involves being outside. During the day, I’ll bike up the west-side highway or walk through Central Park, and at night I like to go out with friends or hang out with my sisters.”

Rachelle can next be seen in the upcoming October campaign, which was also shot at Bonita in Algonquin Park.

Discovered From one of Next's scouts, Corey Mann, when I was 19 years old.

Best Modelling Moment This question is hard to categorize into one particular answer. Modelling has given me so much from being able to travel around the world, being able to meet so many amazing people, being able to be independent... the list goes on and on.

I guess my favorite moment was when I went to the middle of the desert in California and had to stay there for a week shoot. When I say the middle of the desert... I mean the middle of the desert. It was the most amazing experience in the world. I felt like I could see every star in the sky & hear every sound that passed by. Models are so lucky to be able to go to the most exotic or random places in the world that you would never think to visit on your own.

Awkward Modelling Moment hummmm I've had a couple of these. One time I got booked for a job in Asia and got off the plane and was driven straight to the clients were they decided that I needed to go to the spa to get some skin treatments done. So I was like..."great, this should be relaxing." I got there and was told to strip down while they applied, what I thought were ointments or products to make my skin smooth but five minutes later, a very hot sensation started tingling all over my body. I called for help and asked what it was and after several translations, I found out my entire body was being bleached. Supposedly, I was a little too dark and because it was for a skin care campaign, bleaching every hair on my body was the remedy. Spa...not quite, haha.

What lesson(s) have you learned in the last year? The main lessons I have learned in the past year are to take up every opportunity that presents itself, to follow your instinct and to not be scared that it may or may not work out the way that you want it to.

What advice would you give a new model starting out? To remember where they came from, to surround themselves with activities and people that give them substance and stability, to take the good with the bad.

Favourite Market I love NYC for its bustling energy and how efficient it is to get to castings and work. I love Paris for its beauty. I love London for its coziness. I love HK for its craziness. I love Thailand for its food.

Favourite Model I love old school models from the 90's. Kate Moss for her style and Candice Swanepoel for her ridiculous body.

Most embarrassing song on your iPod? Eamon- "F*k it" because I still think it's a good song.
