Heavy Metal!
Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Black Sabbath (Dio years onward), Helloween (I see them more like a heavy metal band that inspired the Power metal movement, more than a power metal band themselves),  Dio, etc.

Thrash would be my 2nd favorite, and I've been listening some stoner lately

Priest, Maiden and Sabbath are all among my fav., too
but so are Metallica, Dream Theater, The Sword, Dark Tranquillity, Ensiferum (1st 2 albums), Candlemass (to mention the most famous ones) and many many others.
So I had to vote all of the above and more. Also many hybrids or some avant-garde bands are among the bands I like most

some bands sure are hybrids of different subgenres or even a fusion of non-metal genres with some metal sub and so on.
other bands may of course change their style over their career, thinking of Amorphis as an example

Talking about Amorphis
as opposed to these quotes from a different thread

No!  :x Finnish music sucks!

You don't know how wrong you are. Right, generally speaking, Finnish music sucks, but Apocalyptica are really good...
[/quote]

there are many bands from Finland worth mentioning in the metal field,
such as:
the aforementioned Amorphis and
Apocalyptica

Sentenced
Machine Men

Doom-Death / Melodic Death Metal bands:
Barren Earth
Ghost Brigade
Insomnium
Swallow The Sun

Catamenia (Melodic Black / Melodic Death Metal)
Ensiferum (Folk / Black / Viking Metal)

Melodic Death Metal:
Kalmah
Eternal Tears Of Sorrow
Noumena

and probably there are many more bands worth listening to...

I grew up on Rush, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Triumph, Ozzy, W.A.S.P., Dokken (one of my favorites), Def Leppard, KISS, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, RATT, Skid Row, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Yngwie, etc.  So i guess a combo of metal and hair metal, lol.  I had a big Queensryche phase (Rage for Order & Mindcrime).  A lot of the stuff on my ipod right now is the stuff i just listed but i guess Alter Bridge and Sevendust are a little more recent likes of mine.

I'm not a big metal fan. My mom is of course. But I do like Dead Kennedys, Damned, Black Flag and Butthole Surfers. I'm not sure where they fit in though.

@widget: you grew up with most of the classics! excellent

@lexus#1: seems you have a pretty cool mom. Dead Kennedys is more a punk band, about Butthole Surfers, I only know one of their songs from guitar hero, seemed more alternative rock to me... about the other bands, no idea

Gave mine to ALL OF THE ABOVE.  Love bands in all those genres particularly Thrash (Motorhead, Metallica, Megadeth, Anvil). My absolute favorite is the precursor to Heavy Metal which is Hard Rock with some of my heroes such as Deep Purple, UFO, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc.!!

I am not very familiar with Testament though.
Any song you would recommend from them?
I think I have one album on my hd, which would be the latest one...

What about this?

I don't know what style it is but it sounds like stoner metal to me.
