Plot:

The project is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.

The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

Oh yes, there will be blood. AMC has made some pretty impressive headway in the television world in recent years, going from primarily broadcasting old movies to competing with the cutting edge of dramatic television on channels like HBO, Showtime and FX. And while "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" broke ground in terms of language and sex, their next series The Walking Dead promises to bring the gore in a big, big way. And from what we saw during our recent visit to the Atlanta set, this may well be the bloodiest show ever seen on television.

When the first zombie image from set circulated last month, portraying the rotting corpse of a woman reaching out towards camera, the collective hearts of zombie fans across the nation went aflutter. Courtesy of FX maestro Greg Nicotero, the work looks as good as anything we

SD Comic-Con '10: Major 'The Walking Dead' News Including Black & White Version, Romero to Direct?!

One of the major flaws with the San Diego Comic-Con is typically the studios don't let the talent reveal much about their projects, while the fans always end up asking the most idiotic questions imaginable). AMC's panel for their The Walking Dead TV series was not only the best of the Con, but it was just jammed with information including a tease of a possible black & white home video release, and the idea by Darabont that zombie genre creator George A Romero might get behind the camera for an episode in season two (confirmed as greenlit by the way)! Get the skinny inside.

Here's the breakdown:

-According to Frank Darabont "The Walking Dead" will have a worldwide simultaneous release in over thirty languages.

-Artist Charlie Adlard cameos as a zombie.

-Darabont says that they will take every interesting detour that they find but will still stay true to the storyline of the comic.

-They're expanding the world and the events during the journey, and Kirkman says he's blown away by the areas that they're improving on.

-Bear McCreary ("Battlestar Galactica") has been confirmed as the show's composer.

-Norman Reedus has joined the cast.

-When asked why he didn't shoot in Los Angeles, Darabont said, "When LA gets its shit together and gives filmmakers tax incentives," he'll think about it.

-FX artist Greg Nicotero said that AMC hasn't objected to any of the show's violence. In fact, the reel that they showed here at Comic-Con was edited because the powers that be would not let them show any of the gore. There will be lots of Romero-esque headshots.

-Darabont says he cannot wait to get to Michonne and Tyrese in Season Two, which has been confirmed and is a go.

-When asked if any well known horror directors might one day come on board, Darabont hinted that he wants Romero to possibly direct in the future.

-Darabont says that he wants a black and white version to be released on DVD similar to his release of The Mist.

AMC's 'The Walking Dead' a Powerhouse in the Ratings!

Finally horror is getting some mother effin' respect on the small screen! AMC's The Walking Dead premiere ratings are enormous: The 90-minute Halloween night debut delivered 5.3 million viewers and a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating. That's the largest demo audience for any series premiere on any cable network this year. It's also the highest numbers for any series in AMC's history, and beat most non-sports programs on broadcast Sunday night. Unless Walking Dead suffers an enormous ratings drop off in the coming weeks (it won't), a second season order is very likely. Now it's time to bring on "Locke & Key" and "Preacher". Viva horror!!!!!

10 Stellar Reasons to Watch 'The Walking Dead' Sunday!

1. Frank Darabont directed it.

Not a big TV watcher? Neither am I but Frank Darabont is a top-notch film director, meaning the likelihood of the pilot being of better-than-average caliber for a television show is pretty high. Not to mention, Darabont knows horror his adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist, in my opinion, was one of the greatest scare movies of the last decade. Being the Walking Dead showrunner, he also has much more invested in the series than he would if this were just a one-off directing assignment “ so you can bet your ass he's brought all of his considerable cards to the table for this baby.

2. It's on AMC.

Who would've ever thought that the channel formerly known as American Movie Classics would come to rival HBO and Showtime in its commitment to quality original television programming? Over the past three years the cable network has launched two excellent series - Mad Men and Breaking Bad - that have garnered both enormous critical acclaim and hefty audience numbers. AMC's recent focus on prestige output - Men and Bad have 19 Emmys between them bodes well for The Walking Dead's chances of not sucking. Of course

3. Even if it sucks, high viewership numbers will create buzz and send the message to TV suits that we want more horror programming.

There's always the possibility that The Walking Dead will turn out to be a total dud (though I highly doubt it), but the chances of seeing a continued dearth of original horror series on television is almost certain if no one ends up watching. You can bet that big numbers - and the watercooler buzz that goes along with it“ will mean the greenlighting of other T.V. shows in the horror vein, which can't help but benefit us fans in the long run. Bonus points if you're a Nielsen family

4. Robert Kirkman is heavily involved.

It's always a red flag when the creator of the source material distances themselves from the adaptation, but Kirkman is not only serving as executive producer but also penned the fourth episode. As one of the premiere genre comic book writers working today, Kirkman knows quality not to mention how to please fans of the graphic novels so his hands-on involvement can't be seen as anything but an asset to the show.

5. Greg Nicotero did the special effects.

Not only are the f/x said to be mostly practical for the series (no fake-looking I Am Legend zombies), but the legendary Greg Nicotero is the one handling them. From his iconic work on Romero's Day of the Dead to stellar recent outings like Grindhouse and Drag Me to Hell, Nicotero is one of the best around meaning even if you don't dig the show, you can be damn sure all that decayed flesh is going to look stunning on screen. Which brings us to our next item...

6. The zombies look pretty freakin' cool.

Any zombie film that's worth its salt simply must give us (duh) awesome-looking zombies, and the images and footage we've seen so far of Walking's living dead has us salivating (that decaying zombie torso crawling along the grass in the trailer is insanely awesome). Oh yeah, did I mention...?

7. The promo is really, really good.

I know, I know good trailers don't necessarily translate into good films (A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, anyone?), but the 4 minute extended promo for the show is stellar and gives a pretty good idea that the pilot's production values, at the very least, will be a cut above.

8. Advance buzz is strong.

Reviews from even the mainstream press have been incredibly positive, with Nancy DeWolf Smith“ T.V. critic over at the stuffy Wall Street Journal “ raving that the pilot episode is

that poor bastard that is cuffed to the rooftop. that's like being in a car that is sinking in the ocean. all you can do is wait to die. damn.

and for me, i've always found the zombies to be the most scary of the horror genres. i mena, werewolves are only when it isw the full moon. Vampiresw are in the night time only. Zombies just never stop coming, day or night. And even if they are slow, the sheer numebrs will eventually get you.
