Susan's designer accomplishments stem from a successful career as an international supermodel. Susan has rocked the catwalk, for Valentino, Versace, Prada, Lacroix, Chanel, John Galliano, Nicole Miller, Badgley Mishcka, Bill Blass, DKNY, Anne Klein, Todd Oldham, Calvin Klein, Herve Leger Michael Kors and others… Holmes also scored campaigns for Adrienne Vittadini, Yves St. Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Escada, Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, Claude Montana, Rochas, Guess?, Diesel and Pepe Jeans… as well as Gottex Swimwear, Victoria's Secret, and billboards, ads and commercials for Peugot, Triumph, H & M lingerie.
As a senior in high school, surrounded by the San Diego surf scene, Holmes made swimsuits just for fun. Her hobby was temporarily sidelined when her modeling career beckoned. Holmes has also graced the covers of U.S. and/or international editions of VOGUE, W, Glamour, Marie-Claire and Playboy. She has appeared in beauty ads for Rene Guinot (photo- graphed by Mario Testino), and Revlon for VOGUE (Pamela Hanson). Susan feels so blessed, to have worked with some of the world's greatest fashion photographers, including Steven Meisel, Ellen Von Unwerth, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Sante D'Orazio, Arthur Elgort, Matthew Rolston, Michael Thompson and Walter Chin.
By the mid 1990's Holmes was one of the 20 highest paid fashion models. According to an interview by famed Elsa Klensch, on CNN, Susan earned the title " the Body" from her modeling success, particularly in lingerie and swimwear. Susan starred (as the bride) alongside fellow models Tyra Banks, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss and Helena Christensen in the British film Inferno! She has appeared on WB, CNN, Fox News Live, E! Entertainment, The Travel Channel, CNBC, VH1, and the Bloomberg Network… Holmes was honored by the mayor, in 2005 with a "Key to the both the city of Detroit and Toledo" - for her recognition from her hometown, for her international/businesswoman endeavors.
Living part time in California, and dedicating most of her time with her family, (Susan has two young daughters), reminded Susan of her original idea of becoming a designer. Her focus is on creating swimwear that "exudes charm with rock n' roll inspiration" with a quality and attention to detail. She credits her husband, legendary rocker Duff McKagan, formerly of Guns N' Roses, and now with successful Grammy Award winning band, Velvet Revolver as an integral part of her creative designs. One of the highlights, she enjoys, in having a fun and successful business, in which she gets to contribute back over 10%, after net proceeds- to wonderful charities, such as " Project Angel Food", "Surfrider Foundation" and the Red Cross for natural disaster victims. All of Susan Holmes Swimwear is made in America- no slave labor.
Susan Holmes Swimwear, LLC is worn worldwide by celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Venus Williams, Elle Macpherson, Stella McCartney, Heidi Klum, Keira Chaplin and Anna Kournikova… In fact, in a recent Sport's Illustrated Swimsuit edition- she was the designer "with the most suits" and donned the huge calendar cover, and DVD cover as well.
Susan is married to musician Duff Mackagan and they have two baby girls. First daughter Grace McKagan born on August 27th, 1997. Second Daughter Mae Marie McKagan born on July 16th, 2000.
